If your immediate response to "trans men are capable of benefiting from male privilege" is "trans men are not The Enemy!!" I don't think u should be discussing feminism or intersectionality at all lmao

what went down in nyc at columbia and city college was a massive escalation and a huge show of violent force from the police in what is already one of the heaviest policed cities in the country, if not the world. sending hundreds if not thousands of riot cops, counter terrorism, SWAT and NYPD's notorious SRG units armed with what is basically military equipment to beat up college students and barricade columbia faculty into their apartments. the fact that they removed all press from campus and refused to let journalists in before they swept the camp is very concerning. a lot of journalists said this was an unprecedented use of force even for the NYPD and it seemed like an excuse for them to use a lot of their new equipment. out of around 300 people arrested on tuesday, some still havent been released or even processed. this is illegal in new york state btw, people have to be arraigned within 24 hours. NYPD has been giving very little information about the people detained, not specifying where theyre being held, and taking a suspiciously long time to process them. they're apparently trying to charge some protestors with felonies. anyways all this is to say this is a major escalation from NYPD and a grim sign for the future. this is a prelude to fascism, not an alternative.

It will grow | Maen Hammad, 24 October 2023.
From the photographer: My Teta, the mother of apricots, always holds my hand as she tours me around her land allowing me to harvest eight decades of indigenous knowledge. I visited a few weeks ago, before being two checkpoints away meant total closure.
My Teta doesn't waste anything, you see. Months earlier, she had used the skin and seeds of a previous watermelon as compost for her lemongrass and sage. This watermelon is special. She saw the seed germinate and continued to nurture it as if it were one of her children.
For decades, the watermelon has stood as a symbol of Palestinian resistance. When the Israeli regime occupied the West Bank and Gaza, my Teta's land, they banned public display of the Palestinian flag. In response to facism, Palestinians used fruit. Carrying sliced watermelons during demonstrations as an expression of our liberation movement. The fruit's flesh and seeds mirror those of our flag, mirror those of our land.
Watermelon season passed months ago. However, my Teta doesn't waste anything, you see. It is dying and soon will become dehydrated from winter's siege. Its seeds will rest between pockets of red soil, but next harvest it will grow.
And it will grow.
And it will grow.
And it will grow.
Until our flag is raised on the sniper towers surrounding our towns, and this watermelon can return to become just simply, a fruit.

Another thing is that when this aggression started, we were so worried about winter and how displaced people in tents will survive it. Earlier this week the temperature in Gaza hit 38 degrees (100 Fahrenheit) and we are now wondering how will displaced people survive the heat in those tents.

the fact that there are white people going "omg they're just like us" about people in south, south east, south west asia and africa and south america like it's some huge revelation that we're all human is so fucking dismal to me. what do you mean you never considered the personhood of the people who don't look like you or don't have your culture? why do you think that you're unique in your suffering? why do you think you deserve praise for realizing that we're all human?

CONTEXT: the gaza freedom flotilla coalition aims to bring emergency aid (food, medical supplies, etc) to a starving and besieged gaza. activists and journalists from all over the world (including diaspora palestinians like dylan) will be participating, and they know the risk — in 2010 turkish activists attempting a similar mission had their flagship raided by israeli forces, who murdered 10 activists aboard (9 died on site and another died later from critical injuries).

i think there's an important note to add here for those of us who know a diagnosis will either hurt them or is unreachable so i'd like to humbly request anyone else to add on to this for those of us who think of these threads too deeply and harm our perceptions of ourselves
#i'm the type to take things as they are#so a few years ago i would've read this as You NEED to be Diagnosed#and that diagnosis will make your life better#but as an american that is definitely not the case#i know other countries experience this but i dont have the data on those situations right off my head#like what do you do when your autistic on your own and only have yourself to rely on for anything#if u get diagnosed it fucks you out of the jobs you're even actually capable of doing bc of the stigma#they literally see you as a risk just bc of it#i've seen ppl denied for things like pushing carts at grocery or taking inventory at warehouse like#idk i still think diagnosing is a great move but we also have to protect ourselves from this society that would rather we just fuck off & d
