The new starting point
I am a programmer, I like to read some books, and I am very interested in the ancient and traditional Chinese culture. The twenty-four solar terms not only guide farmers to cultivate, but also teach people what to do at what time. I didn't like writing before, probably because I was not old enough, I didn't understand it, and the time didn't come. I would like to start with the twenty-four solar terms, not to pursue the level of experts, but to find friends through writing and discuss the past, present and future.

Twenty-Four Solar Terms - Xiaoshu
Tumblr media
Xiaoshu in Chinese, is the 11th solar term of the year. It usually begins on July 7th or 8th and ends on July 22nd or 23rd. During this period, the temperature in most parts of China reaches its highest point, and the weather is hot and dry.
In ancient China, people believed that during Xiaoshu, the yang energy in nature was at its peak, and it was necessary to take precautions to avoid heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses. Therefore, they would eat light foods, drink plenty of water, and avoid going out during the hottest hours of the day.
In modern times, although air conditioning and other cooling technologies have made life more comfortable, the tradition of eating light foods and staying hydrated during Xiaoshu still remains. People also take this opportunity to enjoy seasonal fruits like watermelon and cantaloupe, which are believed to have cooling properties.
Xiaoshu also marks the beginning of the fishing ban in many parts of China, as it is the breeding season for many aquatic animals. This ban helps to protect the ecosystem and maintain a sustainable fishing industry.
Overall, Xiaoshu is a time to take care of oneself and appreciate the beauty of summer while being mindful of the potential dangers of the hot weather.
