the liberated woman doesn’t wait, for she’s aware that it becomes a habit. she’s seen far too many women in her family perform their womanly duties of waiting. waiting for the household to eat before she can devour her first morsel. waiting for her husband to see her worth. waiting for her children to grow up so maybe she’ll finally have some time to herself. waiting for a better life. maybe next time. she waits by the window. when she sits under the sun peeling her despair off her bodice, she silently listens door for the footsteps of an opportunity.
the liberated woman realises her privilege. she sees the works of her ancestors, just how many woman had swallowed their tongue so maybe someone like her will be born and become the portal for their dreams. hence, she understands that there is a certain weight to responsibilities that are chosen for her. so she never misses the chance to make her own decisions. sure, sometimes they sting and she’s humiliated, repeatedly called selfish and unlike any other in her family.
but she doesn’t let her rage spill. instead, she alchemises it into inspiration to soar even higher where these expectation become as a grain of sand. and she lives. not just for herself but for their could’ve beens.
