Four Ways To Safely Tell If You’re Choking On An Advocado
Melbourne based band Advocates recently dropped their single Choke, so we had a fucken yarn with them to see what was good.
H2FE: Describe Advocates as a haiku:
Do you like the heavies We can bring them to you Here you go
(Yeah we suck at haiku's)
H2FE: Tell us about your new track Choke; who did you record with? What are the lyrics inspired by?
Our guitarist Mason Hine recorded Choke and then it was sent over to Chris Foster in the states to mix and master. Basically, it was written about those people who everyone will encounter at some stage in their life, that fuck you over or use you for their own personal gain, it’s pretty much a song about getting back at those people and letting them know exactly what you think of them.
What advice would you give a NZ band looking to tour Australia?
Try and make as many friends/contacts in the Australian music scene as possible before you come over and it will make life a lot easier. Advocates moved here knowing hardly anyone and it took us a long time for people to stop and take notice and for us to make the friends and contacts we currently have. The best advice we could give is to try build relationships with local musicians and booking agents in Australia, save some money and just do it. Nobody got anywhere just sitting on their asses, you have to get out there and put in work.
H2FE: You guys toured here a while back, any plans to come play here again soon?
Of course. New Zealand is Advocates home and always will be. Regardless of where we are based, without the support we got from friends in NZ we would not be here. So yes, we definitely have plans to return in 2016.

Feeling More Tired Than Usual? You May Be Lacking In This Dead Dreamers Interview / New Song
We had a yarn to Simon of Dead Dreamers, navigate downwards to read. Watch the new music video for So Far Gone directed by Odd. here.
H2FE: Describe Dead Dreamers as a haiku:
Anti gravity We're going to be rockstars Love getting zany
H2FE: You guys did a bunch of shows over in Europe / the UK last year, what was the response like? What was your favourite show there?
The response was great. Europe was especially hospitable. There were a few special shows that stood out, but for me it was Barrow-in-Furness. It was in the middle of our UK tour and heaps of people had made comments on how shit it was there. We arrived with little expectations and I remember it feeling like we were in the back room for an eternity. It was one of those shows where we thought people were just going to stand there with arms folded, staring at us; but it was the exact opposite. The set was crazy. At one point people were moving so much that the crowd barrier came down. It was just a cool moment for us. Touring gets tough and sometimes you really rely on crowd validation to make you feel like you’re doing something worthwhile.
H2FE: Your last release, No Closure For Open Ends, had a great reception both here and overseas. what can we expect from the new material you guys have lined up?
Don’t expect anything, it’ll make it more enjoyable. We’re very much one of those bands that are always going to do whatever we want. I guess if you’re going to expect anything then expect change.
H2FE: What are your plans for 2016?
We just want to keep creating. More music, more videos. Hopefully tour outside of NZ again.

What Can You Salvage From This? Find Out Today
We had a jam to Salvage about what they is. Listen to their first track Chains here.
H2FE: Describe Salvage as a Haiku:
I suck at Haikus, so here’s one from Michael.
Been around the block. Walking round and getting lost. Sit in the gutter.
H2FE: The band is about to drop the first demo, how was the recording process considering the band is split between Wellington and Hamilton?
The entire process went better than I think any of us expected. Josh, Michael and Sam recorded their parts with our friend Chumz (Wizz Kids) at his rehearsal studio in Hamilton, and I recorded the rest with Conor Coleman (One Outs, Oscillate) at his flat in Newtown. We’re currently adding the final touches, and so far we’re all happy with the result.
H2FE: We’ve caught a couple of Salvage sets previously and would describe the sound as dark, heavy hardcore. Will this be a reoccurring theme through the demo and who are your influences?
That will definitely be a reoccurring theme. We all have different influences which can be heard in our songs, but I guess one that's not so obvious is the film director Lars Von Trier.
H2FE: Salvage is fairly new as a project but you guys have all been playing in bands for a long time -what can people expect different from former projects?
When we started this project we wanted to write music that is abrasive and can’t be pigeonholed into a specific genre. As a result, I think we managed to create something that sounds different to anything we’ve done before.

There Are Some Bitches On The Loose In Hamilton And You Could Be Next?
We talked to Ashlee from Bridge City Bitches about a few things, read on below. Check out the audio of Shit Cunt from their split with Hamilton fast band Nightmares.
H2FE: Describe BCB as a haiku:
Don’t be a shit cunt around Bridge city bitches. Finish ya fuckin beer, cunt
H2FE: Where do you get the inspiration for your music / lyrics?
Lyrically, I usually ask the girls what we hate a lot on any given day then I try throw in as many crack up or ruthless rhymes in as I can. Musically, we all mesh really well together. It helps that we get a lot of feedback and input from members of bands like Hammer Time and Valjean.
H2FE: The covers that you guys have played so far have gotten an awesome reception - how do you choose them?
What self respecting girl band WOULDN’T cover AvLav???
H2FE: Who is the best DBZ villain?
Cell. It has to be Cell. He brought in the Androids (we aren’t counting them as villains), he was a bad ass, genetically fucked with cicada dude and OMG the last scene with Gohan and his broken arm with Goku behind him legit brought a tear to my eyeballs.

Which Household Tool Are You? It’s ‘Time’ To Take The Quiz!
We talked to Alessio from Hammertime and here it is. Gander at the music video for Black Sheep if you are able.
H2FE: Describe Hammertime as a haiku:
Don't ask dumb questions Uh this seems really pointless Let's talk music yeah?
H2FE: It’s been a minute since Black Sheep came out, when can we expect to hear some new music?
We are working pretty hard on writing new music but we're not trying to rush anything. We have a process now, write as a band, record demos, then add vocals and tweak whatever we want with the song after we have our ideas mapped out. I feel like writing this way makes the band progress. We have played one new song live which heaps of people seemed stoked on and I think everyone's just going to have to wait a little longer to hear anything else. We are not 100% sure when we want to drop the next song but when we do hopefully people will be hyped about it.
H2FE: You guys have scored some great international supports, what has been your favourite band to play with so far?
Yeah we have been really lucky to open for some great bands. It's always a good vibe when playing with international artists. I think we have all got different favourites but mine would have to be Terror and The Story So Far. The show was packed out and everyone was going crazy. It was wicked asf.
H2FE: What’s your plans for 2016?
We have a lot of cool stuff in the works at the moment but we want to keep that on the low. So just wait and see what happens.

Barracks Have Done It Again And The Answer May Surprise You?
We interviewed Tom from Barracks and didn’t regret it at all. Absorb the music video for What You Said here.
H2FE: Describe BRX as a haiku:
No talent, just looks. Five reasons to not listen, Just fill your eye holes
H2FE: You guys are taking a few months off to write your next EP, what can we expect from the release?
Our next release is coming along really well. We want it to develop as naturally as possible, with equal input from everybody so we have a lot of cool vibes coming through as we all like different stuff. Judd has been channeling a bit of Jonny Craig meets John Davis, while Simon is hugely influenced by the Berzerker with his drumming. Hunter is in love with Les Claypool so there's a bit of Primus steez coming through with his slap bass. Martin is huge on Opeth at the moment, so we're expecting a few songs in the 12+ minute region, while my love for K-pop brings a lot of bubblegum to the table. Stuck underneath it all. It is going to be amazing.
H2FE: What are your guys plan for 2016?
2016 is going to be a magical year for a lot of people... We predict it's going to be the year that Taylor Swift fails to be involved in a breakup and thus fails to sell a single record. Meanwhile, we are probably going to break up, drop our AOTY and promptly follow it up with a sell out tour for sell outs.
H2FE: Favourite Rick and Morty episode?
I personally think that this topic requires more space. And time. And dimensions. Meeseeks. OOOooooOOOOOhh yeah. Purge... Interdimensional Cable (the first (aka rixty-minutes))... The First episode. No wait, auto-erotic... Regardless, you can run, but you cant hide, BITCH! (Unless of course, you actually just hide). BRX UP. BRX OUT.

You’ll Never Believe What These Five Dudes Are On Fire For!! The Answer May Shock You!
Auckland pop punk brothers Fire For Glory had a chat to us ahead of their Halloween show in Hamilton. Listen to the audio of This One’s For You here.
H2FE: Describe Fire For Glory as a haiku:
Five large classic crusts For some emos in a band Please buy our EP
H2FE: Your EP has been doing really well - who did you record with?
We are lucky enough that Grant and Dan are both pretty clever with audio engineering, so we self produced this one at Creative House Studios, where Danny also holds down his day job as the studio manager. H2FE: What has been your favourite show you’ve played so far? We got to support Motion City Soundtrack this year, which was pretty nuts, and our EP release show was quite the banger aswell. H2FE: What’s your favourite album from 2007? This is a mean question. 07 is full of BANGERS. For me the top one is "The Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance. Even thought that technically came out October 06, that was still my go to album in '07. It's still my go to now, it has to be my all time favourite record. As far as actual '07 releases though, Paramore dropped "Riot" that year, and Mayday Parade and Enter Shikari both put out huge angsty emo iPod anthems with "A Lesson In Romantics" and "Take To The Skies". Ooh and Parkway Drive did "Horizons" that year. See - mean question. Too many bangers. If those records don't count as bangers anymore then my only response would be - “I used to be with it, but then they changed what ‘it’ was, and now what I’m with isn’t it. And what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary to me.” Shoutout to Abe Simpson for that sick guest spot.

Find Out How You Can Save Your Very Own Grace - Click Here!
Saving Grace – ‘The Urgency’ (Facedown / Deadboy / Universal, 2014)
The Urgency solidifies itself as an unrelenting force right off the bat; with opener +0 announcing itself before I could even process that I had hit ‘Play’. With just over 3 minutes of polished, furious instrumentation led by an incredibly pissed-off Nicholas Tautahi’s screaming in the face of politics, I knew what I was in for, and all I could do was hope that my fists would eventually unclench. But 12 tracks later, I just want to beat up my neighbour more than ever.
Bearded Octopus / drummer Shaun Anderson blasts his way through tracks like +0 and 1994, before bringing some incredibly tasteful tom-led rhythms in Was: Is and The Man Who Painted The Pavement, all interwoven with hard-hitting, mid-tempo beats that pound through breaks in Ceremony and all-round crowd-pleaser The Anthem Of The Undergound. String-men Sapunov, White, and McDougall charge, bash, and shred their way between hardcore and metal in true Saving Grace fashion. Solos in 1994 and Ablaze and are perfect examples that these guys know exactly what they want to do and exactly how to do it. But I’m drawn to moments like the end of The Banks Of The Otara, where we get a heavy, dissonant riff to accompany Tautahi’s heart-stopping shrill of a tribute to a lost friend; and The Temple Of The Snake (in its entirety). Tasteful, well-thought out parts that are more than just loud riffs that could be churned out by any band with a similar sound – not that The Urgency could be emulated to the standard Saving Grace have set.
This album is truly a weighty, aggressive gem that will go down in heavy music history. The instruments complement each other, and the songs overall. The vocals are raw and the lyrics are heavy. These musicians are extremely smart song-writers with technique to match. They chose extremely well in flying Zack Ohren from USA to produce songs that received the studio treatment they deserved. This can all be summed up in The Temple Of The Snake; a song that really showcases everything there is to enjoy on this album. The Urgency is well-executed, heavy, angry, and will probably make your parents cry. But that’s okay, because it’s just really fucking good.
Strong 9/10. And that’s what I think of it. -- A.X 2015

What Happened To The Masses? CLick Here To Find Out
Hamilton deathcore outfit Mourning The Masses are close to releasing their first self titled EP. We talked to them about stuff. Check out the premiere of Vermin here.
H2FE: Describe Mourning The Masses as a haiku:
Sweatiest ballsack Zach constantly farts on us Nothing but fun times
H2FE: It's been a while since you've released new material - have you been writing this whole time? What is your writing process like?
Yes, we have been writing the whole time. We nearly have enough material to put out two full-lengths, but we're definitely taking a break from recording once the E.P drops. Our writing process consists of a whole lot of rest and relaxation and never trying to force creativity, we're quite a chill bunch that just go with the flow when it comes to writing really.
H2FE: Who have you been recording with?
The man himself Mr. Karlos Wright from Zenith Studios in the North Shore of Auckland. He's an all round good dude and a very generous producer. Funny stories? Gee there are too many to list with this guy really, though I do remember the first time we ever recorded with Karl, no longer than a couple hours into meeting him he showed us his party trick in which he inhales air with his butt hole and basically farts non-stop, he had everyone in hysterics for ages except Jesse who had to leave the room due to a weak stomach.
H2FE:. What's your personal favourite of your songs?
The only track we could all put our finger on is Vermin, it's the first song we ever made. It was created in Jesse's lounge over 4 years ago with 10-30 watt practice amps, drop c guitars and a Singstar mic. We've played it at every single gig since and we love how much it has evolved over the years, reminds us of where we began.
You can pre-order / buy their EP from their Facebook. It comes with a free Zombie Chew.

Stay True, Young Emo - Find Out How Here!
We had a chat to James from emo / pop punk band Carb On Carb ahead of their Hamilton shows this Saturday. If you scroll down, you can read all about it.
youtube
H2FE: Give us a brief description of Carb On Carb as a haiku:
Two pieces on, tour Having a laugh; rock out, friend! Stay true, young emo H2FE: What's your personal favourite of your songs? I think my favourite at the moment is Kei Tamaki. It's the newest song (we only finished writing it while we were recording), and it’s kind of the musical representation of weird feelings we've both been having since moving up from Wellington. So it feels like a personal resolution. Also the drumbeat is fun to play. H2FE: Was the video for Eden Terrors planned or did you just happen to be dancing in front of everything? Did you get any reactions from passers by? It was planned, but only to the extent that we'd film each other standing or dancing in front of stuff on our trip. There are some pretty whack moves in there. Yeah, we got a lot of puzzled stares, but we were getting stared at heaps in China anyway, so it wasn't a big deal. It was fun doing stupid dance moves and waiting until you made awkward eye contact with someone. H2FE: Give us a bit of a back story about your track Zuri Gaffney and who inspired it. Zuri Gaffney is about Nicole's family dog Zuri. She's a labrador-staffy-princess cross and deserves to be preserved in song. I started calling her Zuri Gaffney because I found a prescription for her that was for Zuri Gaffney The Dog. Is this funny? I thought so at the time.
Carb On Carb’s self-titled album is available now from their Bandcamp. They’re playing twice this Saturday in Hamilton - have a look at their Facebook for info and shit.
