i’m busy dealing with irl stuff but i intend to hop on here.

in the mean time, in my eddie survives aus...

- the cover story is he was taken hostage by a serial killer who tortured him, to explain the grevious injuries. the town is a little sus but also - eddie wasn’t very physically strong to begin with and jason’s whole story about killing people with superpowers is hard to swallow.

- hopper vouches for him and that goes a long way to clearing his name since the cover story is that hopper was also picked up by this guy after the mallfire. said guy also maybe set the mallfire. 

- hopper rescued them both. steve, nancy and robin helped free them.

- eddie is missing his left leg from the knee down. bats ate it. he wears a prosthetic & has kept the bones as a really morbid keepsake. he wants to make instruments out of them.

- gets tattoos to cover the scarring once it was healed enough. 

- is now living in a nicer part of town thanks to the government paying out some generous hush money.

- is maybe trying to deal with the ptsd in less than healthy ways.

eddie survives but spends so much time in the hospital & recovery that he doesn’t pass. hawkins high decides to let him graduate out of pity & also because they don’t want to deal with him again.

eddie immediately re-enrolls the next year out of spite.

okay some general notes on my eddie portrayal since i think it might differ from the general fandom in some ways.

01.  i do think eddie was heavily bullied up until age 13-14. however, i think that bullying after that was largely social. people spreading rumors, purposefully excluding him, etc. i think most people in hawkins are smart enough not to mess with eddie, and that’s why being in the hellfire club offers people a degree of protection. 

eddie deals drugs, lives in a rough part of town, and spent his early years being taught how to get away with crime: people do not want to mess with him.

02.  i also think those earlier years where the bullying was more physical / less focused on social ostracization are where the freak nickname came from. a neurodivergent kid who wasn’t getting the care or attention he needed at home and so he was acting out.

02b. due to his home situation (living with his dad, bouncing between motels and just living in his dad’s truck) eddie also spent most of his time in fight or flight mode. he and his dad got along great - but his father was more an unruly older brother than a father and he had a hairtrigger temper and little regard for his son’s well being. eddie was an accessory to a number of crimes. it was manageable until his his father started dealing (and dipping into) harder drugs. then he got mean. and he got violent. and eddie took the brunt of it.

he’d show up to school beat to hell and he’d give all the same excuses. teachers thought he was a chronic troublemaker and so just believed that eddie had, in fact, gotten what he deserved from his peers. 

though when his peers came at him, eddie would fight. and it never made him feel good to take his anger out on other people. 

02c.  the worst incident involved a knife being drawn on him at school. it was the bully’s originally, but eddie wrestled it from him and threatened him with it. eddie was nearly expelled and people began avoiding him as the truth was twisted. he started getting patted down before he came into school to make sure he wasn’t armed.

eddie later drew a kitchen knife on his father, when he felt genuine fear that he was going to be killed in one of his outbursts.   the police were called and eddie was called armed and dangerous. hopper took one look at the battered boy dressed in threadbare clothes ill-suited for the cold january weather, who looked at him with hollow eyes that said he really didn’t give a damn if he went to prison - anything to get the fuck away from this man, and decided he didn’t want that on his conscience. eddie’s uncle was given custody of him and his father spent the night in the drunk tank with strict instructions to leave his son the fuck alone. the next time the old man crossed hawkins pd, it was over a bar fight that turned lethal. 

eddie distrusts the establishment. but hopper is a good man. he trusts him. and he’s gone out of his way to get him something for christmas every year, even as he continues to have his own run-ins with the law.

03. his behavior got much better once he moved in with his uncle. eddie was allowed to be his own person, not just be molded into the mini-me his father was trying to create. he started growing his hair out and uncle wayne gave him books to read instead of asking him to help jack cars.

tl;dr - eddie can handle anything the real world throws at him. he’s street smart and savvy. he can’t handle supernatural shit suddenly breaking his concept of reality.
