Roevember - Day 2: Roots

((I was going to do something more literal, playing with roots of a tree. But I realized how tedious that would be, so I ended up with something much more simple.)

Evident by Sthallona's accent, she was born and raised on the coast of Limsa Lominsa. She's a pirate's daughter, she grew up on a ship. Although, she grew into herself long after she left and made a home for herself in Old Sharlayan.

"Y'know... I can never get tired of the smell of the sea." Though she supposes that's only natural. "I don't miss my young years, but sittin' here... Gods it brings me back."

Roevember - Day 1: Name

((Catching up with this cause I said I would! Starting off with a simple pose of my girl, Sthallona <3))

While she claims no place as her home, she has to admit that any woodland will always calm her. It's only natural. Her studies of White and Black magic brought her everywhere across Eorzea.

"The name's Sthallona! The strongest mage of this era!" It's self-proclaimed, of course. But no one would have reason to oppose this. She was the Warrior of Light that faced down the Seventh Umbral Calamity and lived, after all.

"But, if we simply must be formal... My name is Sthallona Dhemskyltwyn." She bows. It translates to 'Steel Gatherer, Daughter of the Dusk Shield'. "I was taken in and trained under the wing of Master Louisoix, earning my place among the Circle of Knowing far before Dalamud fell." Her voice grows a tad somber, almost grim, at that last statement. But... that's all she'll say about it for now.

Siiiigh... Not intentionally. Someone would drag her into it and then she would get too heated to back out of it. So yeah, accurate.

T'lyr uses two-in-one shampoo and conditioner.

....I wouldn't put it past him, unfortunately. Especially in his earlier years. I think later down the line somebody introduces him to the wonders of hair-care and he starts caring, but.

Touya is great with kids.

NO!! NO HE IS NOT!!! This man isn't good with people, so certainly he is not good with kids. The only exception is his daughter and even then it took him years to pull off being a dad.

Koren knocks people over by hugging them.

LMAOOO YEAH. YES. ABSOLUTELY. He could take down someone easily.

Raana likes to eat straight coffee beans.

Lol no. She wouldn't. I think she would joke about doing and if dared she would eat them but she doesn't like to eat straight coffee beans.

Sthallona has a pet cat.

Oh! Uhhh maybe?? What's more likely is that she feeds strays and so is known by feral cat colonies but I'm not sure she would have a pet cat. Maybe later in life, though! I can see her having one after finally (finally....) settling down. It's what she deserves.

A'vhea is a very good singer.

I could see it!! If she is though, no one knows about it. That is something she would take to her grave.

And finally! Someone I haven't shown off before but as a little name teaser >:)

It would not take much for Zaya-Sarnai to turn evil.

This is inaccurate. Zaya can be stern, and can be cold, yes. But she, at the end of the day, is too kind for her own good. It would take a lot to turn her evil.

Alidae is not someone who... likes? Jumping puzzles? However she absolutely attempted it only to get halfway one too many times and give up. All the while she's complaining that "it's pointless" and "unnecessarily hard" and "how is anyone supposed to complete this??" but deep down she really did enjoy it.

It's a canonical, written down fact, that T'lyr is good at parkour HGJDFJG. UM. So yea he completed that thing in a couple hours and left everyone in the dust. He's the whole reason Alidae tried in the first place but he made it seem way easier than it was. He'd be the kinda guy to stand at the halfway point and cheer on people as they attempt it.

Touya did not do the jumping puzzle. He was too busy soaking up the sun and enjoying a break he desperately needed.

Koren would not give up no matter how many fucking times he fell. It took him weeks to complete it and once he finally did he just... laid down at the top of it... for a while. But he did it! And nobody can say he didn't!

Part of the reason it took Koren so long was because he was also helping Raana along. They had attempted to tag-team/co-op it until they got to the smaller pegs and harder jumps that they realized it wouldn't be feasible the whole way up. Raana gave up shortly after and joined Touya in the sun.

She wasn't going to at first, but then Sthallona felt left out with nearly everyone else trying it. And to everyone's surprise, she completed it the second fastest compared to T'lyr. What's even more surprising is that she didn't cheat! To prove it she threw her staff at Touya and proceeded to do it with minimal amounts of angry screaming whenever she fell (It did not help that Thancred and Lyse were egging her on the whole time.)

This time I also have some pictures to accompany a post!!!

It's only Alidae, Touya, and T'lyr. But pictures are pictures!!

Alidae grew up with a single mom, basically. Her dad was absent and well... his name was on the list of the dead after the Calamity. So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Loving mom, she's a hardworking blacksmith in Limsa <3

T'lyr is A MAMA'S BOY. But to the umpteenth degree. Father died to Garleans, and he lived on the streets of Ul'dah with her until he joined the Bloodsands just to make money for them to get a house. He misses her a lot (She's fine. She's not dead. He just misses her.)

....How do I explain Touya. Well.... his parents are dead. His whole village is dead. And those who aren't dead became Garlean conscripts :)

Koren & Raana are the oldest twins of many offspring. Their parents are alive and well, though they don't talk anymore. They had to cut contact with their whole clan once they left the forest. (Viera things)

While her mom didn't survive the Calamity, Sthallona was raised by her for the early years of her life. Her father was a goldsmith in Ul'dah, and subsequently did not get to see her grow up. They reunited when Sthallona was 16, and she lived with him up until the Calamity happened. And then well.... *gestures wildly at what happened to Sthallona after the Calamity*

Surprisingly they all had like.... different reactions. Somehow. Maybe not drastically different but they all were different. To some degree.

Alidae's first encounter with a primal (Ifrit) was out of necessity. She was the only person nearby with the Echo, and therefore a chance to fend Ifrit off while waiting for backup. Sure she canonically had... like the trust system with other adventurers. But whether or not those adventurers had the Echo is a different story. She was horrified. As an Arcanist with honestly more Archer training than Arcanist training under her belt, she was still fumbling with spells. She starts to get desensitized to primals by the time she fights Garuda, but Ifrit and Titan were not fun, to say the least.

Both T'lyr and Touya fought Shiva as their first primal. Which, hilariously, neither of them are fit for the cold. T'lyr is a born and raised desert lad. Meanwhile in all of Touya's traveling years, he never once lived in a cold climate. They both were the tanks in that fight. Touya had both this internal amazement and terror, while outwardly he was collected and headstrong (likely the main tank). All the while T'lyr is actively trying not to die from simply his metal armor being too conducive to ice attacks.

The funniest encounter was with Koren and Raana. Who's first primal was fucking Susano. At this point in Stormblood MSQ, T'lyr and Touya had already been sent back to Kugane to rest (lest they work themselves to death). The Viera twins have heard the horror stories at this point. But neither of them were expecting the relic gathering to lead to a primal summoning (mostly because I, too, was not expecting a primal). So queue Raana death-glaring Koren-- who was the one carrying the relics at that point --asking him if he knew that was going to happen. KOREN DID NOT. HE DID NOT KNOW. I also personally think that the twins both have to take on Susano's sword mechanic. Which again, is incredibly funny, considering neither of them are tanks, and they had just sent both tanks back to Kugane. Tis fine tis fine.

As for Sthallona, I can't say for certain who was her first primal. Lightwardens aren't really primals... but they also aren't not primals. But I think it would also be funny to think that she just happens to solo Ravana, who was re-summoned. Because she was in the vicinity when it happened, and the Vath were very worried. But also... she wasn't phased. She grew up with the Scions, in Sharlayan, where they probably had a research project on primals or some shit. I think if anything, she thought that Ravana was hilarious.

Another silly shout out to when Koren and Raana fought their first Eorzean primal... which was a re-summoned Titan. And they were both standing there, mortified, while they watched T'lyr and Touya bouncing Titan back and forth between each other... And looking to their side as Alidae comes running in, with nothing but the face of "Aw shit, here we go again", cocking her gun yelling expletives.

None of the Scions were around for the Crystal Tower story.

After the "call him by his name" cutscene at least one of the Scions had to come up to the WoL asking "Hey I know there's a lot of shit going down right now but who the FUCK is G'raha Tia?"

The only one to realistically have one is Alidae. She got one cause she saw people at Ironworks playing small games with each other on them and thought it was fun. (And by small games I mean like iphone 8-ball and cup pong n shit)

And while yes, she does play those and get very competitive with them, she barely uses the damn thing. There is hours of voice recordings in there of her just venting about her life or small reminders to herself. And quite literally nobody can understand these recordings cause they're either incomprehensible schematic outlines or she's dropped into her full Lominsan accent. Sometimes both!

Hell sometimes she'll listen to them back and lose her mind because she can't even understand them herself! She'll take it to Cid or the lab boys and be like, "Can you glean anything out of this??" And 9/10 they cannot.

i finally got everything working for her and spent 3 hours taking screenshots!!!

Meet A'vhea Vahni!!!!!! Not a Warrior of Light from the Source, but the one and only WoL from the Thirteenth shard. When her world was being consumed by darkness, she made a pact with a Voidsent so the both of them could escape and travel to the Source.

She's very angry and has chronic resting bitch face. I don't have like any real correlation worked out for her and the other WoLs, but she's here! She's here and she's coping!! (poorly)

She's most inspired by Nunemaker's Parable by Everybody Worries About Owen. And also Shadow by Livingston.

A'vhea did typically wear some type of eye covering during her first couple of years on the Source as to not immediately off-put people by the black scleras of her eyes. But eventually she chose not to care. I still like the aesthetic of it with the glam though <3

did you know when you paused certain animations the voidsent model would stay??? CAUSE THAT SURE SUPRISED ME!!

thinking about the moment in 1.0 where Urianger appears, asks you some question, and then no matter how you respond he just summons a fucking CREATURE on your ass and then leaves. And then directly after one of the other scions shows up and is like "oh hes just like that dont mind him."

but mostly thinking about it from Sthallona's perspective??? because she knows Urianger?? she has known this man for like half of her life at this point???? and it's funny in any way I can make it.

On one hand: She does not recognize him in the hacky sack robes and goggles because she has not seen him for a while at this point. But in retrospect that wouldn't matter because Urianger is the ONLY PERSON she knows who fucking talks like that.

The other hand: She goes along with his antics and pretends like she doesn't recognize him. And then is promptly So Fucking Confused why he just summons a raptor on her ass because as far as she is concerned he is not able to do that? this is the only time she has ever seen him use that kind of magic????

And then there's the third option, which is the most likely reason out of them: Urianger is playing a prank on her. And Y'shtola is involved with it. So Sthallona gets whammy after whammy from Urianger reciting this prophecy he's been obsessed with for as long as she's known him, giving some cryptic warning, and then SUMMONING A RAPTOR AND TELEPORTING AWAY. Only to then lose her goddamn mind when Y'shtola x5 continues this fucking bit.

Pretty sure she believed for the longest time that this was just some freak fever dream from being out in the Thanalan sun all day, only to ask the two of them about it a decade later and they just go "oh yeah we came up with that, in like, 2 minutes."

Been thinking about this due to various character runs of mine, how some are more adept healers or casters etc etc.. due to leaning aspects or alteration due to story events, what about you guys? Do they level out or have a permanent lean? 🤔

Edit: LOVING seeing all the wol lore in the tags! So cool! It's all so unique i didnt expect so many different answers but it's a very welcome surprise! Oh yeah Alidae has a couple

She's no longer allowed to be unsupervised in an area with an abundance of technology because she will accidentally press a wrong button and set off an alarm/get herself injured. The gimmick fully starts in Heavensward while in Azys Lla, because Cid and T'lyr looked away for two seconds and she was off digging into OLD ALLAGAN TECH THAT SHE SHOULD NOT BE TOUCHING. This leads to her accidentally stirring the Warring Triad a lot earlier than they should have been. Unukalhai shows up in a panic directly after the MSQ Azys Lla quests and is like: "Hey I was supposed to be all mysterious and sneaky about everything but we HAVE A PROBLEM."

Which is funny in retrospect. Because it just means that Alidae "Eikon Slayer" Mendica gets to answer for her own stupidity.

Also she set off one too many alarms at Azys Lla (effectively alerting some Garlean troops to her location) that she was assigned Wedge to accompany her as to not touch anything potentially harmful. This does just about absolutely nothing, for the record.

Later in Stormblood when she shows up towards the end of the Doma portion of MSQ and onward (she was off looking for Omega and Nero for the entirety of this expansion). Y'know that part of a duty in Ala Mhigo where you press a button and it alerts a bunch of Garlean troops to you and Thancred goes "OKAY WHO SET OFF AN OBVIOUS TRAP??"

Yeah cut to Alidae just running and screaming "SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT--" as she comes into view of the others with several colossi chasing after her.

I guarantee you that something similar will happen during the Omega Raids but I have yet to play those. For fear of will occur to my psyche. (Thanks, it's the brainworms.)

Another shout out to sign that Tataru put up in the Rising Stones of "It's been ___ days since Alidae and Alisaie's names have been mixed up or misheard."

Record has only made it to 5.
