Exile by Dora Garcia
Dora Garcia is calling her project “Exile.” The installation presents nine tables set up in a single gallery, which will hold documents and objects that she and various collaborators will mail to the museum during the two months of the exhibition. These will include letters, clippings from newspapers and other publications, photographs, and possibly found objects. These mailings in various ways will consider the idea of the exile as a guest in a land moved to out of need and not necessarily out of desire, creating a complex relationship with the host. Ideas about physical separation will also be central to her exhibition. There will also be a whiteboard in the space on which will be written various topics and quotes sent by Garcia. Suzanne Landau, director and chief curator of the Tel Aviv Museum, will curate these objects as they arrive, so that the display will change continually.
Also part of the project will be the publication of a book of letters by the Italian artist Aldo Piromalli, who lived in exile from his native city of Rome for decades. Piromalli was a central figure in Garcia’s exhibition, “The Inadequate,” for the Spanish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2011. Garcia’s collaborators for the project include Michal Bar-Or, Giulia Girardello, Alma Itzhaky, Luciana Kaplun, Mattia Pellegrini, Aldo Piromalli

Francesco Finizio, How I Went In & Out of Business for Seven Days
and Seven Nights, 2008
For one week in September 2008, Francesco Finizio occupied the ACDC
Gallery in Bordeaux, France. During this time, he employed the space to
create as many different businesses as he could imagine, “opening” and then “closing” each business one after the other, using primarily scrap materials found on the premises and in the vicinity. The images here are taken from the slide projection that makes up the central element of the completed work.
How I Went In & Out of Business for Seven Days and Seven Nights, 2008

Projected slideshow loop of 99 images of gallery installation, including parking lot, miniature golf, sex business, art gallery, hotel, coffee shop, laundry, and room for rent.
