every year the ao3 stats come out and every year people insist that the lack of women isn’t misogyny but because ‘most fic writers are female and therefore enjoy writing about men more’ and every year they don’t seem to understand that they themselves have just described a version of misogyny

The best thing about Xena is that ALL the AUs are already canon and not, in fact, AUs.
You want a modern day AU where Gabrielle and Xena are reincarnated and get together? There’s a canon episode for that
Cowboy AU? Heist AU? Vampire AU? Battle of the Bands AU? Whodunnit Murder Mystery AU? Never became a warrior AU? Pirate AU? Prison AU?
How about some more niche ones as well?
Miss Congeniality AU? Arthurian legend AU? Footloose AU? The Producers AU? Angel and Demon romance AU? An Indiana Jones AU where Gabrielle is a whip wielding, treasure hunter and Xena is a sexy archaologist?

must a fictional relationship be “healthy” or “functional”? is it not enough to simply watch two made up people destroy each other, hand in unlovable hand???
#also people who only want their fictional characters to be happy and content and for noting bad to ever happen to them#confuse me so much#i only want them happy so it hurts more when the bad things happen#Obviously i want them to end in a happy place lol#but i want the road to get there to be as painful as possible

AFTER VOTING, click here to see what genre you've landed in.
#I’m the villain in an urban fantasy#so I’ll probably have the most interesting but fucked up backstory#and also possibly be the love interest lol

i can not tell you enough how much i fucking hate that me and everyone else who lives in a country that isn’t america have to actually be concerned with their stupid fucking clown show of a government nonstop because everything they do effects literally everyone else it’s so fucking exhausting to have to be concerned about my own government AND theirs like some fucking kid who just shows up at my house unannounced especially when americans literally never have to give a shit about any other government in the world unless they’re actively at war with that country why does america get to be the fucking protagonist country!!! why do they get to fucking damage everyone else in their crossfire to themself!!!!!

It’ll work better because of our relationship. What we make together is good because of it. And you know that, or else you wouldn’t have asked me to come back here in the first place.

In the spirit of encouraging people to comment on fanfics while also making it easier to do so, I feel obliged to share a browser extension for ao3 that has quite literally revolutionized the comment game for me.
I present to you: the floating ao3 comment box!
From what I've seen, a big problem for many people is that once you reach the comments at the bottom of a fic, your memory of it miraculously disappears. Anything you wanted to say is stuck ten paragraphs ago, and you barely remember what you thought while reading. This fixes that!
I'll give a little explanation on the features and how it works, but if you want to skip all that, here's the link.
The extension is visible as a small blue box in the upper left corner.
(Side note: The green colouring is not from the extension, that's me.)
If you click on it, you open a comment box window at the bottom of your screen but not at the bottom of the fic. I opened my own fic for demonstrative purposes.
The website also gives explanations on how exactly it functions, but I'll summarize regardless.
insert selection -> if you highlight a sentence in the fic it will be added in italics to the comment box
add to comment box -> once you're done writing your comment, you click this button and the entire thing will automatically copied to the ao3 comment box
delete -> self explanatory
on mulitchapter fics, you will be given the option to either add the comment to just the current chapter or the entire fic
The best part? You can simply close the window the same way you opened it and your progress will automatically be saved. So you can open it, comment on a paragraph, and then close it and keep reading without having the box in your face.
Comments are what keep writers going, and as both a writer and a reader, I think it's such an easy way of showing support and enthusiasm.
