— takuya knows that emiko doesn’t need his luck. his luck was nothing compared to her talent and hardwork and persistence, but it does not stop him from giving it. once he’s finished making an elaborate creation out of her, takuya gently turns her head and leans over emiko’s shoulder. 

“good luck,” mumbles just as he kisses her, a soft grin on his face when she pushes him away, positively annoyed, flustered beneath it, and storms off. so cute. “you’ll do great!”

“he’ll wake up soon.” but hajime fears his words are pointless. it was secret to no one how close sonia and gundham were, the best of friends back on the island, and likely the best of friends even now despite one of them being comatose. plate of food and a hot drink is set down besides sonia. hajime makes to leave but something stops him, he doesn’t know what, but he presses a kiss to the top of her head before he slips away, heart hammering in his chest. he just hoped she’d be okay.

hajime had not been awake long — one of the very first to awaken, it makes him want to laugh, he’d been the last one to wake up on jabberwock island. it’s overwhelming seeing the others again, their true selves, not the simulations they had been. hajime thinks he can handle it, that he can take it all in, until he sees the one person who shouldn’t even be there, in the flesh.

hajime approaches her one evening, after everyone is awake and they’re floating on an expensive boat in the middle of the ocean. the world - no, hajime’s world was this boat with all his friends on it, they could finally live, and now that he’s alive hajime wants to do what he’d been afraid to do for a long time. 

hand settles over the top of chiaki’s game console (something she’ll no doubt scold him for later, he can take it) and when she looks up, he dips down and presses his mouth to hers into a kiss that is both gentle and all encompassing, everything he had ever felt. his world had been saved. and chiaki was one of, if not the, most important part of it.

“sorry to bother you with this so early in the day, mikan.” he laughs, a small embarrassed thing. left arm is stuck out as its attended to - of all the things hajime could have done to get injured, tripping over his own feet felt silly. “I’m sure you’d rather be somewhere else.”
