i didn't love the town yet, when i moved here, because i am not quick to trust a home. when i was thinking about kissing you, all the mist started gathering at the edges of the tarmac, licking over the changing leaves. trees remember sunlight and when their leaves drop i think we are watching the memories flake off underfoot.

i didn't love the town, but you had a soft voice when you asked are you settling in good? and i thought about my hands in your hair and the length of your eyelashes and how when you smile there's a wildness to it - almost like you're constantly surprised by how good joy is, like it is new to you each time.

is it a town once it holds memories, or is it a book. hands and hunger and the long soft night whispering go on now. go under.
