I am so tired of harboring your ghost in me. I am so tired of loving like a wounded home too worn and too inhabited by old memories to make room for newcomers. You were always the superstitious type and I always laughed at you when you’d tell me that you would never live in a house because houses are too easy to haunt. I never took you seriously until now. You made a house out of me and now your touch still lingers in between every single one of my fingers. Why couldn’t I see that I was inhaling you, giving you permission to possess me when our lips touched? Welcome home. I didn’t know that you were wearing me down so you could inhabit the cracks in my bones, slipping in the fractures like a mist until you encompass me from the inside out. I didn’t know that you were making a crawlspace out of my ribcage so I could always feel you there— somewhere. Somewhere in these walls our ghosts are still slow dancing in my stomach, and with every step I can feel it drop further and further down. The anatomy of this haunting has me tearing myself apart limb from limb just so I can finally get a chance to see you again.
