hi everyone! i know i announced i would be coming back from hiatus however long ago, but i figured now that i am feeling a little better, i would come back and explain. long story short: i had a surgery! i know, my luck is the worst. i won’t bore you with details because they’re unnecessary, but there have been a few complications and i had to go to the hospital for a while. overall i’m okay and i have another appointment tomorrow to check in with some stuff, but that’s why i have been taking to resting. i meant it when i said i wanted to come back, but i have been mobilebound because until recently i wasn’t even able to lift up my laptop. ik. it sucked.

do you think hop ever goes through a very small but noticeable teenage phase. like it can’t be “rebellious” by any means bc let’s be real this is HOP we’re talking about he idolizes his guardian figures but he talks back to leon 1 (ONE) time and leon is CRUSHED for DAYS afterwards............. what happened to his innocent baby brother....... where did he go wrong........ hop do you hate him................. it’s because he lost the championship isn’t it......... it’s ok u can be honest *on the verge of tears*

he feels his lips curl into an indulgent smile , elbows braced against the counter , allowing his yamper to snap at his fingertips – starbright eyes flicking upwards at the boy . if rich was really being honest , Hop was one of the few kiddoes he’d actually allow to adopt a few of his pokemon for his team in his quest to beat his rival and older brother . ❝ Still lookin’ for that perfect team or didja come by for more tapu cocoa imported from Alola ? ❞ / @decadnce·

❛  weeeeell... if you’re going to offer so NICELY, i guess i wouldn’t mind some tapu cocoa since i’m already here... so, yes, please !  ❜  he talks as if that wasn’t already his plan since the beginning, hoisting his backpack up onto the counter while he digs through its content for his spare change. it takes a moment before he can scrounge up enough, and he carefully slides the coins across the counter towards rich.

the ginger waved her hands immediately, “ oh no we’re not!  this is going back up on the shelf where it belongs! “ she’s already kneeling and trying to scoop up the cds, but her hands are shaking and she looks…ashamed.

eventually she sighs and sits back on her knees.  instead of pushing the memories and the items back, she takes them out and reminisces.  hidden under her uniform is her incomplete gym badge ring with only four badges slotted into place.  they’re rusted and the jewels have lost their luster long ago.

“ i don’t think you’ll want to see these hop… we really should put them back. “ a hot flush of embarrassment has settled over her pale features, and she can’t meet hop’s excited gaze.  “ i couldn’t keep up with your brother or raihan, so these won’t be very exciting for you to see, really. “

hop’s ready to create the protest of a lifetime when sonia starts picking up the cds into her hands, mouth parting to try and convince her that it might be beneficial for them to take a break and sit down together over the television. but the words catch in his throat, and when he looks to sonia, he recognizes her expression as something he had once felt himself.

the excitement in his features soften, turning to something more solemn when sonia speaks.  (  there’s some part of him that wants to tell her that he gets it, that he knows what it’s like when your rival shines too brightly, so strong you can hardly stand to look at them anymore. it’s a nauseating feeling, and one that lingered during the final stretch of his own gym challenge.  )

❛  ... oh,  ❜  hop’s voice turns uncharacteristically quiet now; he’s thinking hard about what to say next.  ❛  but... i don’t think that way at all, sonia. you must’ve been pretty amazing for lee to have considered you a rival, right ?  ❜  he pauses, and quickly realizes his next move should lighten the mood a little.

❛  hey, don’t look like that !  i know what’ll cheer you up !  why don’t we watch your battles in the finals ?  you participated, right ?  i’ve only ever seen lee’s, but i’m sure you went out with a BANG !  ❜

hop is okay with being alone. or, he likes to think he is.

leon was never really... there. he remembers crying at the doorstep of their little home in postwick when he was a child, grabbing at his shirt and having to practically be pried off by their mother after an hour of trying to convince leon to please, please, please let hop come along with him, on whatever adventure he was set out to start. between leon’s gym challenge and his inevitable celebrity status with the title of champion, his visits back to postwick were few and far between. hop doesn’t blame him for it... or at least he tries not to show it.

maybe if leon had been there to watch hop get bigger, if they had grown up together like normal brothers should, he wouldn’t feel so pathetic wanting to reach out and talk.

he’s sitting on a bench in the center of circhester, staring down at his rotom phone with that grimace on his face that can only mean his heart his hurting. hop isn’t sure what to do, if calling his older brother to ask for advice would be even more shameful than just dropping out all together. he’s been trying every combination of new battle strategies he can since his battle with bede, and his most recent failure at circhester gym stings more knowing that his best never seems to be enough.

it’s cold. hop’s jacket doesn’t provide nearly enough warmth. but still he sits there, shivering and staring at his phone as he tries to work up the willpower to just make the call.

hop isn’t at all proud at how he trips over himself in his hurry towards the lab’s entrance to greet his brother, completely abandoning his work at the desk and racing down the front stairs when he hears his older brother’s arrival. (  his excitement feels akin to something like christmas morning, but isn’t that always how it is when leon comes for a visit ?  )  hop stumbles over his own two feet in his rush, just barely catching himself by holding onto the stair’s guardrail. he stops to regain his balance and make a smooth recovery, shoots his gaze towards his brother, and gives him a brilliant smile as hurries down the rest of the way towards him like that almost fall hadn’t happened.

(  he knows how busy leon still is, the celebrity status of galar’s champion doesn’t go away after one defeat. so hop always treasures these visits as much as he can... even if his lab work will have to be submitted late. sorry, sonia.  )

❛  lee !!  ❜  he grins when leon reaches down to ruffle at his hair, leaving it in a tousled mess.  ❛  all the way in wyndon ?  ❜  hop takes the heart patterned bag in his hands and opens it up, and his attention is first drawn to the chocolates and favourite cinnamon heart candies. talk about spoiled !   ❛  no way !  are these chocolates from the cafe in wyndon ?  you know those sweets are the best in galar !  ❜  and a pretty penny, too, if you didn’t want to go through the hassle of battling the man there...

hop reaches down to take out the box of chocolates, always so impatient to indulge in sweets, but shuffling around the contents of the bag reveals the wooloo pokedoll sitting at the bottom. he audibly gasps, jumps a little where he stands.

❛  oi !  lee, this is ace !!!  ❜  he laughs and takes out the pokedoll, reminiscent of his very own partner.  ❛  it’s going right on my work desk in the lab. and when i’m a professor for real, i’ll keep it down here... so all the trainers that visit me can see it, too. think that’s a good idea ?  ❜
