Here’s a collection of memories I have from going to elementary school in the mid to late 2010’s in no particular order

I wrote quite a bit so ima put it under a cut

Having to get forced to play education games on the computer like ABC Mouse, Reflex Math, Front Row, Prodigy, and other random ones I can’t remember.

The piles of coats that formed at recess when it got warmer while we were outside

In 5th grade they decided to remove those temporary buildings that like 90% of elementary schools have and because of that we couldn’t go to the playground 1/3 of the time because we had to go through the deconstruction site

When it was cold outside and we had recess kids would huddle like penguins (kids with thick coats on the outside and kids with thin/no coats on the inside) but it got to the point one year where they had to ban huddling because that’s all 75ish students would do for the entire 30 minutes lol

There were 2 sides of our computer lab, one side laptop the other side PCs, and the laptop side was seen as better even though it was objectively worse in every way (the chairs were really uncomfortable)

Boomwhackers

Learning how to load, aim, and fire a civil war era rifle in unison with my whole class and how to preform an amputation without anesthetic on the same field trip (then they were taught again during a civil war reenactment during school)

In 5th grade my teacher had flexible seating where you would choose a seat at the beginning of the week and have the seat till the end of the week then you would swap the next week

My little neurodivergent brain in all its glory hates change so whenever a teacher would change seats or if someone sat in “my spot” in a place I would cry (I might make a long post about a particular story and link it here if I do)

In elementary school I rarely tales and In 3rd grade we read a story with a mute character and so one of our vocab words while reading it was mute and the teacher asked the class for an example or for it in a sentence one kid said “Hooty’s mute!” and I remember saying as loud as my little quit self could “No I’m not!”

Before we could play at recess we had to walk around the track a set amount of times depending on weather the class was good that day and I remember being so petty about having to walk that I would scooch my feet along the path till they called us in without ever finishing a lap

Going back to the laps at recess, eventually the teachers noticed me not finishing them and they would send students to “motivate” me to finish which really entailed them crowding around me and being like “Come on Hooty you can do it” which was really annoying because I just wanted to be left alone
