Aw hell nah this is apparently not just about a cute date but they're SHIPWRECKED now? Gobble gobble, we gobble this up!
Double Dated - chapter 7, in which Moana and Maui get shipwrecked. Or start reading from chapter 1 here. (New chapters get posted daily)
They had royally screwed up. In all his years sailing, he’d never gotten so distracted that he’d been unable to see a storm coming, and now they found themselves in the worst of it. All this, just because he’d allowed himself to get completely lost in her kisses. He had quickly taken the lead as they battled the fierce winds and high waves that shook their canoe violently across the waters. He’d tied Moana to the raft, just in case. Last thing he wanted was for her to fall overboard with no way to retrieve her, but she kept a firm footing as she manned the oar and he tried to keep the sail from ripping against the tormenting winds. “Hard to starboard!” he shouted as he saw another giant wave coming, and Moana grunted as her arms trembled from the effort of moving the oar. He himself was holding the sail tight, hoping it would hold a while longer, and instead tried to lead them away from the nearby reefs. They were soaking wet - their clothes and hair plastered to their skin, and Maui was trying hard to forget that he was the one responsible for this situation.

Seems like the date is going pretty well for at least one couple - who else is shipping "Crabby Star"? ;-)
Double Dated - chapter 6, in which they discuss chopped off fingers and crabs during the double date. Or start reading from chapter 1 here. (New chapters get posted daily)
Not particularly gifted at small talk, Simea immediately asked: “Tamatoa… Did I see correctly that you’ve lost some fingers?” He blushed crimson and sucked in his bottom lip as he felt rather put on the spot by that question. “Eh, yes, you saw that correctly.” He had his hands underneath the table now, feeling a bit awkward because of the question, but Simea held out her hand, smiling gently at him as she was curious to see, and it was with a bit of reluctance he placed his hand in hers. His pinky and ring finger were gone, cut off rather cleanly, and she tilted her head curiously while Tamatoa could only stare at her, blood rushing to his cheeks as her touch was rather gentle and her gaze so kind. “What happened?” she wondered. Moana did not fully approve of Simea being so hands-on with her date, but could only lock her lips as she was also listening in on this conversation. “Well, eh…” Tamatoa quickly glanced at Maui, who was hiding his face behind his hands, before he admitted: “Maui did.”

Only a few more days of WayfinderFebruary to go - but we still have a few things lined up, including more chapters of Double Dated (which will continue on straight into the month of march, just in case you get withdrawal symptoms!)
Double Dated - chapter 5, in which some of Moana's dreams are crushed, and others come true. Or start reading from chapter 1 here. (New chapters get posted daily)
The final week of sailing camp meant that each pupil would be given a canoe or other boat to master with a few of their peers, so that during the last weekend, they’d all race each other around one of the islands they were headed towards. Moana had eagerly written down the three canoes she preferred - as had the other pupils - and after much deliberating among the instructors, teams had been made and they’d hung up the lists outside the galley after dinner. When Moana didn’t show up for the evening activity - not that she often did - Maui had an inkling why that was, and he looked all over the yacht to find her. The last place he looked was the internal dock, and he found her there, watching the canoes she hadn’t been selected for, her arms wrapped around her legs as she sat on the elevated deck, sniffing her tears away. His heart ached and he hated that her dream had been crushed to such an extent that she was now wallowing in self-pity. He cleared his throat as he slowly approached her, and without looking in his direction, she knew it was him. Maybe the sound of his footsteps had gotten familiar to her, or maybe she’d expected him to look for her, like he had done many evenings before. “Go away, Maui,” she said in a small voice, turning her face away from him, and he sighed.

Its still valentines day somewhere 💝

Full quote (from Moana 2 novelization) because its too long:
“The reason i didn’t come visit, ‘was cause you made me want to be better. You deserve the whole ocean… I could pull up a million islands, but if you’re not there to land on them, what’s the point?” - Maui

Yeay, the double date begins!
Double Dated - chapter 4, in which Maui and Tamatoa nervously wait for their dates to arrive... Or start reading from chapter 1 here. (New chapters get posted daily)
Maui was pacing in front of the restaurant while Tamatoa stood casually by his side, watching him curiously with his hands in his pockets, trying to look cool. “Why are you so nervous?” Tamatoa asked. “I’m not nervous!” Maui hissed, continuing his pacing, then stopping for a moment, then realizing he was too nervous to stand still, and he continued pacing. “I’ve literally seen you more relaxed while wrestling sharks, Maui, I think I can tell the difference.” Maui glared at him, shaking his head. “Why are you wearing a shirt like that? And those ridiculous suspenders? You look like you’re about to walk in there and fix someone’s computer.” Tamatoa crossed his arms, not appreciating the way Maui was talking to him. “What is wrong with this? It’s just a regular long-sleeved button-up shirt?” “Yeah well, with those pants and your glasses you look like a nerd.” “Jeez, Maui, they’re just trousers - would you prefer me to come in my boxers next time? And how am I supposed to see anything if I can’t even wear my glasses?”

Wonderful art, also under the cut! Fun AU fic ideas too! Don't sleep on this, guys!

For Today's Hooked Way February, I'd like to share an AU I've been cooking up since the great moana content drought (2019-2023).
Moana Bridgerton AU (more Pictures below!!)
In this AU, (loosely based on polynesia in the 1830s), The King of Tahiti, backed by british guns, has expanded his rule over the neighboring islands and one day a gun boat shows up to motonui demanding either war or vassalhood. Cheif Tui and Moana, having heard rumors of the king's ambitions, negotiate terms with the king. in exchange for not drafting all their fighting age men, motonui will send yearly tribute in the form of any Pearls they find. all seems well until the next year, when the former king dies and the British put his son King Tamatoa on the throne. Tamatoa begins his reign by demanding that the chiefs of his vassal states show up in person to deliver their tribute, and bring their loveliest daughters of royal blood as candidate for his harem.
Moana volunteers as tribute to save her island, but once she arrives, she convinces King Tamatoa that her skill with diplomacy would be wasted being locked away in the palace- she picks up languages quickly and gives her whole speech in english, despite having only first hearing it a month or two before. In exchange for not being a concubine, she concocts a scheme to pretend to be the king's "sister" and travel to england to promote trade and keep tahiti independent, by playing the european powers against one another. Tamatoa buys into the idea, and not so subtly implies that should she fail- well, he hears she has a younger sister...
So moana is bundled off with a shipment of trade goods and the means to establish a tahitian embassy in london. plus a few 'servants for the princess' aka, her minders and guards.
In London, she is surprised to meet Lord Maui Windlass.

"teach me how to sail- through english society!"
Maui was adopted by two childless old english nobles after being found abandoned on a Samoan beach. They came up with an elaborate fabrication of him being their long lost grandson via their long dead explorer son, and raise him to become the heir of their estate. like all Bridgerton men, this sets Maui up to have lots of daddy/mommy issues XD
Moana is the ambassador of the alt-history "empire of Tonga" to England, and is trying to keep her island free of European rule by taking a leaf from siam/thailand's book and playing the European powers off one another so they don't become another colony state.
Maui's fabricated backstory says he's the 'son' of a Polynesian princess (cause if you're gonna be half foreign, might as well be royal) and Moana is the only person in London who could refute his claim.
Moana enlists Maui's help in her political London dealings, having him teach her all the ins and outs of English high society and in exchange, she'll corroborate his backstory. (aka she's blackmailing him).

"Little girl, I AM a noble." "maybe you WERE-"
She's also there to promote Tonga as a trading partner so her wardrobe is full of all the cool stuff England can export from them like pearls and feathers and seashell jewelry. (because ***FASHION***)
In the end they somehow get a treaty signed and Maui liquidates nearly all his english assets to "buy" motonui, have it recognized as british property so no one else can go after it without incurring british wrath, then maui "sells" the island back to it's people, and he an moana strip off the trappings of british society to go live on a houseboat and sail around the pacific like God and Te Fiti intended.
I'd like to add the idea of "returning the heart of Te Fiti" into the mix somehow but I'm stumped as to how to fold that into the bridgerton universe. maybe Maui stole the heart (which is an ordinary but culturally significant piece of jewelry) on a past visit to Tonga to give to the english queen to curry favor? only it got 'lost' or ended up on the black market? aka lalotai? maybe that's where tamatoa can come instead of being the king
no idea what maui's hook is in this scenario. a signet ring? a key to the family vault? his bank account?

Day 24 has begun and we'll have 2 works on this fine day! (If all goes well!) Expect some fanart within the next 24 hours. ;-) But until then, knock yourself out by reading a new chapter for Double Dated! (with some supersweet Moana/Maui scenes)
Double Dated - chapter 3, in which Maui becomes Moana's willing sailing mentor. Or start reading from chapter 1 here. (New chapters get posted daily)
“What’s up, curly?” he asked her as he stepped closer to her, inspecting what she was doing by crouching down next to her and looking at the page that laid open. “Maui!” Her voice sounded a little higher than usual, afraid she’d been caught doing something illegal. “I… eh… I was practicing.” “I can tell,” he replied as he picked up the book and started flipping through it. “Is it okay if I skip on movie night?” she asked in a small voice. “I don’t think I can learn much from watching a comedy.” “Yeah, I’m skipping it myself,” he replied casually as he put the book down again and then inspected her knot-work, nodding towards it. “What seems to be the problem?”
