“Where are we?” she asked, looking around as well.  “This is the void,” he muttered.  “The void?” she repeated, not sure she’d ever heard of this place.  “A place between the human world and the world of gods, separating us. There’s nothing here.”  Moana found herself searching for his hand again, holding it as though she was afraid they’d be separated if she didn’t remain near.  “If I had my oar, maybe I could find a way out,” she whispered. “I’d also feel better if I still had my hook,” he agreed, feeling quite vulnerable like this. “You don’t need your weapons here,” a sweet female voice spoke - her voice seemingly coming from everywhere and nowhere at all, and Maui and Moana stood back-to-back, their hands still linked as they looked around for the source of this voice while it echoed all around them.

Literally them in the second part.

Remember how Maui treated Moana in the first movie, how he was annoyed with her and even tried to get rid of her for several times?And look at him now, he changed so much, like come on, he is ready to do anything just so Moana would be safe.
