Mal didn't save cotillion, Ben did; with his diplomatic and people skills, he talked Uma down. Mal blew fire and growled which only aggravated Uma more, nearly top-siding the yacht. if Ben hadn't stepped in, someone on the sidelines would have gotten hurt.
