Hello World!
Took me a while to decide to try and do this, but I think this will be a good idea if I can keep up with it. I had a very strange set of coincidences back in Mid-January and interpreted them as a sort of polite tap on the shoulder from Thor (It was a quiet sort of “we should hang out” and I REALLY don’t feel the need to wait for a “Bitch! Pay Attention!” Sort of a calling so here we are). I’m still attempting to figure out devotional/ritual practices that feel right. So far, I have a small alter set up with an incense burner and I light incense on a pretty regular basis. I’ve also taken to dedicating my morning workouts to Thor, thanking him for the strength of my body and will. Those seem to be fairly well received so far, but I’m not sure what else to be doing really....
I did get a copy of Dr. Jackson Crawfords’ translation of the Havamal and The Poetic Edda since those seemed like fairly solid starting points for Northern traditions. I have been warned by several people about the sheer number of racist bigots that hide behind Northern traditions, so I’m being very careful about the reading I do so far. If anyone has any suggestions about other readings to do, I’d really appreciate it. A lot of the books that I’ve seen so far seem to be focused more on modern interpretations of old traditions, and some of those really resonate with me so I may add them into my practices at some point, but I’d like to get a better grounding in the older traditions first.
One thing I did start doing pretty much right away was making mead at home. I have a batch going right now and it seems to be going well, so I figure if nothing else I’ll be able to use that as offerings before/once I finish getting my alter set up.
