Tyler Mahle looks right at home in the Cincinnati Reds’ 4-0 win over Los Angeles Dodgers
Cincinnati Reds’ Tyler Mahle throws in the first inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Saturday, May 18, 2019, in Cincinnati.
Reds right-hander Tyler Mahle looked right at home at Great American Ball Park Saturday afternoon.
Mahle pitched the Reds to a 4-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers before a crowd of 31,156 on a warm day at GABP. Mahle had his best outing the year. He went six shutout innings. He allowed four hits, walked two and struck out five. He threw 98 pitches, 61 of which were strikes.
The victory gives the Reds a shot at a 4-2 homestead with a victory Sunday. They evened the series against the Dodgers after taking two of three from the Chicago Cubs. LA and Chicago currently have the two best records National League.
It was Mahle’s first start at home since April 10 and only his second start at home overall.
The Reds had lost Mahle’s last six starts. He was outstanding in his last outing until giving up a two-run home run to the last hitter he faced, Brandon Belt in the seventh. The home run was the key blow in Reds’ 6-5 loss to the Giants in San Francisco.
Cincinnati Reds’ Jesse Winker, right, high-fives Yasiel Puig, left, to celebrate hitting a solo home run in the first inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Saturday, May 18, 2019, in Cincinnati.
Jesse Winker gave the Reds the early lead Saturday by leading off the second with his 10th home run of the year. Winker hit a high 98-mph fastball out on a line to straightaway center.
The Reds took advantage of a Dodger mistake in the third to open it up a bit. Tucker Barnhart and Nick Senzel started the inning with back-to-back singles. Joey Votto followed with a ground ball to shortstop Corey Seager. Seager threw wildly to second. Barnhart scored, and Senzel and Votto ended up at second and third.
LA right-hander Walker Buehler got the next two hitters, but Yasiel Puig delivered a two-out, two-run single to make it 4-0.
Mahle avoided trouble for the most part. He escaped two-out jams in the second and third. The Dodgers did not advance a runner past first in Mahle’s last three innings of work

Tennessee Titans disappointed in offensive problems vs. New York Jets
Tennesee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota (8) throws a pass in the first quarter against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on December 20, 2015. File photo by Matthew Healey/UPI
And though it was in the grand scheme of things a meaningless preseason opener, the fact that the Titans managed just three points against the lowly New York Jets may have stalled the speed of the bandwagon just a little bit.
Granted, starting quarterback Marcus Mariota played just two series, and many of the starters played only a little bit more than that. But the lackluster performance of the offense, especially, was something that was a bit unexpected.

How Texas’ Immigration Policies Silence Domestic Violence Survivors
Last year, Houston saw a 16 percent drop in domestic violence reports from Hispanics. The police blame Texas’ anti-sanctuary city law, saying it has made undocumented immigrants more reluctant to report crime for fear of being deported.

Taylor Swift’s Reaction to Kelly Clarkson Singing ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ at the Billboard Music Awards Is Everything
Taylor Swift is finally back at an awards show — and serving up some serious sass.
During Kelly Clarkson‘s opening medley of nominees’ songs at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday in Las Vegas, the Voice coach covered the Grammy winner’s hit “Look What You Made Me Do.”
When the camera panned to Swift, the superstar (sandwiched between her pals Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello) was seen rolling her eyes, glancing at her nails and casually singing along before breaking out into laughter.
Her Swifties took to Twitter to voice their appreciation for the star, who hasn’t attended an awards show since the 64th Annual BMI Pop Awards in 2016.
Check out PEOPLE’s full Billboard Music Awards coverage to get the latest news on music’s big night.
The “Delicate” singer, 28, opted for an ethereal pink gown with a thigh-high slit and embellished silver details on the bodice by Versace for the annual show. She topped off her look with Casadei heels, Hueb earrings and rings by Fernando Jorge, Sara Weinstock Jewelry and Maxior.
Swift received a total of five nominations, including the top artist category for which she is up against Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran.

She also is nominated in the top female artist, top Billboard 200 artist, top Billboard 200 album and top-selling album categories.
The entertainer’s surprise appearance at the BBMAs comes one day after she performed two sold-out shows in the Los Angeles-area as part of her Reputation Stadium tour.
She surprised 60,000 fans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, by bringing out Shawn Mendes on Friday and shocked the crowds on Saturday when she shared the stage with another very special guest: Selena Gomez.
Swift will be back on the road on Tuesday when she performs at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
Her Reputation Stadium Tour will see her play dates across North America, Europe and Oceania through November.
The 2018 Billboard Music Awards will broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 20 on NBC.

Trump to Announce Decision on Iran Deal on Tuesday
Washington’s European allies were bracing for the U.S. to withdraw from the Iran nuclear accord, after President Donald Trump said he would announce on Tuesday his decision on the landmark agreement that he has repeatedly condemned.
But some European officials are holding out hope that Mr. Trump, after leaving the agreement, would move slowly to reimpose sanctions, which would leave more time for negotiations.
Mr. Trump tweeted Monday that he would announce his decision at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The message came as British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson made a last-minute appeal to save the accord, including meetings with Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and an appearance on one of Mr. Trump’s favorite television programs, “Fox & Friends.”
“We need to find a way of fixing that and the president has been right to call attention to it,” Mr. Johnson said on Fox. “But you can’t do that without just throwing the baby out with the bath water.”
Mr. Johnson’s visit followed recent visits by French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who urged Mr. Trump not to withdraw. On Monday, a European diplomat said that the chances of keeping the accord intact are “very small” and that the Trump administration appeared to believe it would better to make a fresh start on nuclear issues. “We don’t share that analysis,” he said.
Trump administration officials declined to say what specific decision Mr. Trump had made. But the president has been fiercely critical of the accord and there have been no indications that his concerns have been assuaged.
U.S. and European diplomats have worked hard in recent weeks to close the gaps on several issues, including Iran’s ballistic missile program and the scope of inspections.
But they have been at odds over the Trump administration’s insistence that sanctions should automatically take effect eight years from now if Iran begins to expand its capability to enrich uranium by installing more advanced centrifuges, as it now is allowed to do under the agreement.
Europeans don’t know what specific steps the U.S. will take if Mr. Trump decides to leave the agreement, including whether he will allow more time for diplomacy and how he hopes to constrain Iran’s nuclear activities if the agreement is jettisoned.
Under one scenario, which diplomats have dubbed a “soft exit,” Mr. Trump would refuse to waive sanctions on May 12 on Iran’s oil export and transactions by its Central Bank.
Under such a move, the U.S. Treasury Department website states that companies would have 180 days to wind down their deals before the sanctions take effect, which could give the U.S. and the Europeans months more to try to settle their differences over the accord.
But Mr. Trump could go further by deciding on a “hard exit.” That would entail stating now that he won’t waive sanctions either now or in the future, effectively removing the U.S. from the agreement and forcing firms doing business in Iran with hard decisions.
Whatever approach Mr. Trump adopts will also pertain to another set of sanctions that come up for a U.S. decision in July, including secondary sanctions on foreign financial institutions engaging in significant transactions with Iranian entities.
Within the Trump administration, the criticism of the accord has been echoed by John Bolton, Mr. Trump’s new national security adviser. Mr. Pompeo has also been critical even as the State Department has led an effort to try to shore up the accord by negotiating a supplementary understanding with European allies.
Mr. Trump criticized former Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday for meeting with foreign officials to discuss ways to save the nuclear deal with Iran.
Mr. Pompeo recently told Congress that Tehran appears to be complying with the Iran agreement. In February, U.S. intelligence agencies said in a report to Congress that the accord had extended the amount of time Iran would need to produce enough fissile material from a few months to a year.
American military officials have acknowledged that the accord has constrained Iran’s nuclear program at a time when the U.S. already has its hands full dealing with Iran’s more assertive posture in the region.
In March, Army Gen. Joseph Votel, U.S. Central Command commander, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the Iran deal “addresses one of the principal threats that we deal with from Iran.” If the deal goes away, he said, “then we will have to have another way to deal with their nuclear weapons program.”
Mr. Trump has made criticism of the Iran accord, which was negotiated by the Obama administration, a staple on the campaign trail. He has called the agreement “the worst deal ever” and “a horrible agreement for the United States.” He has backed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who charged last week that Iran hadn’t been honest about previous nuclear weapons work, citing new evidence.
The dispute with Europe over the Iran deal is exacerbating building tensions among the trans-Atlantic allies over a host of other policy matters. The Trump administration’s steel-tariff threats, U.S. sanctions against a critical Russian aluminum supplier to the continent and the European Union’s proposal for a digital tax that could hit U.S. internet giants all have added to an increasingly strained relationship.
The Iran sanctions represent a potential threat to many European companies, including in Germany, Italy and Spain, that have deep business ties to Iran in the energy and industrial sectors. Oil prices could also go back up, hitting a European economy reliant on imports as it finally is gathering pace a decade after the financial crisis.
U.S. companies, such as Boeing Co., have said they would abide by U.S. laws. But new sanctions against Iran could jeopardize their multibillion-dollar projects begun since the deal was reached.
Pulling out of the deal “will leave many unanswered questions about what sanctions look like and the timeline,” said Elizabeth Rosenberg, a former senior adviser at the Treasury Department who was involved in the Obama administration’s rollout of sanctions against Iran.
There likely will be no immediate change in the sanctions, said Ms. Rosenberg, now a senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security.
It takes months to craft the guidance necessary to explain to companies, banks, foreign financial regulators and central bank governors exactly what the Trump administration’s new sanctions will mean in practice, she said.

Waffle House hero honored by Tennessee legislature
James Shaw Jr. was honored at the TN Capitol on Tuesday. (WSMV) James Shaw Jr. was injured during the attack. (Source: James Shaw Jr.)
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) –
The man who disarmed the Waffle House shooter was honored as a hero Tuesday at the Tennessee state legislature.
James Shaw Jr. said he was appreciative and thankful, and he wants to use this time to bring more awareness to gun violence.
He stood with his family and friends at the Capitol as Tennessee legislators recognized him for his heroism during the deadly Waffle House shooting in Antioch.
“It means a lot. I’ve never experienced this gratitude and appreciation, such an honor nowhere near this magnitude before. So, it means a lot to me,” said Shaw.
By his side on that fateful Sunday was Shaw’s best friend Brennan McMurry who told people to hide in the bathroom, but Shaw didn’t.
“My wife was in utter disbelief that that could have happened to her husband,” said McMurry. “We just got married in November. So, if you think about that and the fact that I may not even have made my six-month anniversary, it’s a very, very scary thought.”
Some light-hearted moments between Shaw and McMurry helped ease the trauma following the tragedy.
“I’ll tell you at one point yesterday, I think I asked him to go get me something, and he was like ‘why can’t you go get it?’ And then I said “I saved your life.’ Then he was like ‘That’s what I’m going to hear the rest of your life?’ And I said ‘Yeah,’” said Shaw amidst laughter in the crowd.
Shaw remains thankful to see his family again, checking in with both victims recovering in the hospital.
“(Sharita Henderson), she definitely remembered me. She smiled as soon as I walked through the door and thanked me so much,” said Shaw. “Her dad was there, and he thanked me. It was just an emotional situation.”
Shaw said he’s working with Waffle House to turn money raised through his GoFundMe account into a trust fund for the families of the victims killed. As of 7:30 p.m. on April 24, almost $120,000 has been donated.
Shaw said he’s also aware there are possible scam accounts out there, and he’s working to make sure any other fundraising accounts are truly to benefit those families who lost loved ones.
Shaw has been reluctant to call himself a hero, even though police have said he saved many lives.
The mayor of Nashville and the CEO of Waffle House both sung his praises the day he wrestled an AR-15 out of the gunman’s hands, burning his own hands on the gun barrel. He was also grazed by a bullet during the attack.

Shaw was honored with a resolution on the House floor at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Click here to watch the full video.
"It means a lot to me. It’s a life-changing moment, and I’m going to try to use this moment as a platform to bring awareness to shootings and just violence," Shaw said.
The resolution reads, "If a hero is ‘a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character,’ then James Shaw Jr. is a hero twice over, for he has demonstrated both his courage and character in a manner few could ever attempt to emulate."
Shaw is a Nashville native. He graduated from Hunters Lane High School and attended Tennessee State University.
Click here to read the full text of the resolution in Shaw’s honor.
Shaw has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the other victims of the shooting. Click here for more information.
A New York man who was moved by Shaw’s heroism has set up a GoFundMe account in Shaw’s honor. He wrote, "I normally don’t get involved directly in these matters, but James’ grace has inspired me to start this page to give him the support I feel he deserves. According to news reports, James has a 4-year-old daughter. Perhaps this money can be used for her college fund or some other education-related expense. But I’d be just as happy if James used some of this money to take his family on a nice vacation." Click here for more information.

Netflix and Amazon Are Going Back to the Academy Awards This Year
Netflix scored its first-ever Academy Award nominations for a feature film on Tuesday morning, as the streaming giant’s push to compete against traditional Hollywood studios on the industry’s most glitzy stage picked up steam.
Netflix picked up four total Oscar nominations for its 2017 original film Mudbound, a drama set in the racially segregated U.S. South after World War II, including nods for the best adapted screenplay, cinematography, and original song (“Mighty River”) as well as a nomination for supporting actress Mary J. Blige. (And, one of those nominations even marked an Oscar-first: Rachel Morrison became the first female cinematographer ever nominated for an Academy Award in that category.) Netflix won its first Academy Award last year, for the documentary short White Helmets, but this marks the first time the streaming service has ever had one of its original feature films nominated for an Oscar.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the latest batch of Oscar nominations early Tuesday morning. Netflix’s streaming rival, Amazon, received one Oscar nomination, for comedy The Big Sick‘s original screenplay, a year after the e-commerce giant won it’s first Academy Awards for the drama Manchester by the Sea.
Get Data Sheet, Fortune’s technology newsletter.
Tuesday’s Oscar nominations are something of a culmination to what has already been a busy awards season for Netflix, which scored a dozen nominations at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards for Mudbound and multiple original TV series, including Stranger Things and The Crown.
However, in the end, Netflix walked away with only one Golden Globe win, for actor Aziz Ansari of the comedy series Master of None. So, while Mudbound has been a consistent nominee throughout Hollywood’s drawn-out awards season, the film has yet to take home any major hardware, which means Netflix may not actually get to hear the company’s name called on Oscars night.
The Oscar winners will be revealed at the 90th Academy Awards on March 4.

Getting Tired Of House Hunting Shows
I have a house hunting show I used to watch regularly, but it is really starting to get on my nerves. It seems like all of the women on the show want a white kitchen and all of the men want a man cave. I am not saying that these are not common wants, but it is like watching the same show all of the time with different people being featured.
Another thing that grinds my gears is the fact that none of the couples on the show can agree about the style of home they like. Someone on the show always wants some kind of old Victorian with charm, yet their spouse always wants something that is more sleek and modern. I am starting to believe that a lot of this is scripted since it did not happen as often when I watched earlier seasons.
The other night I was watching an episode that showed this couple from Antioch (where I am from) that had totally different ideas of what makes a great home. I almost tore my hair out while watching them squabble about things like whether or not the place should have a laundry chute and how close the neighbors should be.
As we all know, there is usually going to be a difference of opinion when two people get together, but that should be settled long before they get on the television screen. The way they are doing it now, it always looks like one of the people is a brat and the other one is forced to deal with that.
This is probably why I have stayed single for so many years. That way I can go house hunting in Antioch and find a gem without anyone arguing with me about the choices I want to make.
