So there's this old AU that was killed violently before I ever even watched Invader Zim but I see art of it sometimes and I thought it was so funny I made my own version. Tons of art under the cut lol

Warning! This is really, really dark and edgy. There are jokes about drugs, suicide, alcoholism, mental illness, and death! Only read more if you're comfortable with that.

Dib's deal:

Zim never came to Earth when he was a kid

He has managed to get definitive proof of paranormal… but no one cared.

Once he and the SE managed to uncover something huge, and the government shot and killed most of the people there and covered the whole thing up, traumatizing him and making it so he no longer wanted to expose the paranormal.

He dropped out of highschool

Accidentally killed his sister Gaz. (She's a demon, so she's fine in the underworld, however he's very traumatized)

Professor Membrane kicked him out of the house, and gave him a load of money so Dib could start his own future somewhere else.

He lives in a shitty apartment and spends all his money on vices, like drugs and alcohol.

Membrane made a new kid that Dib has nothing to do with, since the other ones failed.

He is depressed with multiple suicide attempts on record

Technically has a job in paranormal, people pay him to get rid of ghosts in their house, but it's not very profitable and he's bad at scheduling and misses dates.

Zim's deal:

Irkens are lovebugs, as the original AU was named. They are naturally subservient and love helping other races.

They bring peace and love throughout the universe, going to each world to try and make it a better place. The Vortians used to make war machines, but now they build epic ice cream shops and theme parks.

Not every lovebug has to work, but many of them just enjoy doing it!

Zim had only ever heard about pain and suffering in passing, and ended up finding a place that is utterly miserable!!!

He attached himself to Dib because Dib recognized him as an alien and he loves him. Unconditionally. Absolutely nothing Dib does to him will ever make him hate him.

Especially since Zim, like normal irkens, has incredible healing powers and cannot be killed!

Dib is quite frustrated with this because finally, the world gives him a free win, but it's only after he's completely given up on all his dreams. He could just turn Zim in and no one would fight him! But he knows that wouldn't work now and just tolerates Zim.

Zim has a frilly pink diary that he writes very cute things about his very tame and normal relationship with Dib.

This is their dynamic. It's straightforward, easy to understand and it's really funny.

Sometimes Zim follows Dib to work and Dib REALLY REALLY does not want Zim talking about their relationship in public. Most of this is despite Zim's hips, his disguise....... Does not make him look like an adult, even though he is.

In this AU, the lovebugs (irkens) do not have highly advanced technology like PAKs and instead are more magical. They can heal and regrow body parts super fast, but it's with the power of LOVE!!!!!

my goal with Dib isn't to make him irredeemably abusive, he's supposed to be the guy that you want to be there for but is too toxic to tolerate for your own personal mental health. He benefits a lot from having a friend with 0 boundaries!

So my goal with Dib (as I may have stated before) is to make him that friend that you want to be there for, but can't for your own mental health. So far my pictures have only really had him being Really Depressed, which while can be uncomfortable isn't intolerable.

What makes him hard to be around is violent episodes. He doesn't want to hurt people, it's just something that happens to him sometimes and he has little control over it.

Zim however is COMPLETELY unaffected by his negativity. He is completely immune to abuse and has zero boundaries.

He'll write in his pink fluffy diary with his fushia feather pen "Dib was sad today!!! Poor thing :( He kept mentioning something interesting though, I wonder if it has something to do with his mysterious past?" meanwhile in the real world what happened was a lot of yelling and crying and incomprehensible sobbing.

Then another day he'll write "He said he didn't want me there, but I knew he didn't actually want that. He's so lonely and really appreciates a friend, so I stayed with him and he really appreciated it :)" while in reality Dib was yelling that he hates Zim and just wants to be alone for once and Zim should've never come into his life.

Zim is, of course, correct. Dib only said that because of a deep rooted self hatred. It's very impressive how not affected by this he is!

Anyways since this was a heavy post here's some pallet cleansers!
