draco had leaned back into the chair , his blue eyes wide as he watched her in complete and utter confusion . was he – did he – – did he find this attractive? this is soon drowned out almost entirely , unable to find the powerful inner voice that always seemed to guide him . now , he was left practically speechless . “ but i – i remember it . ” his attempt at defense is stopped-short , he was no longer using his anger as a priority to try and prove a point . in fact , the malfoy boy was listening – and LISTENING CLOSELY . “ what happened the other night? ” his voice teeters on the grounds of demanding , hopelessly looking for any answers that would pertain to what memories he seemed to be lacking . “ i woke up here yesterday – i don’t – i don’t remember . honest . ” there’s a noticeable genuineness to his words , leaning ahead to show that he was intently looking to hermione for the answers .
“ well, you remember incorrectly. harry and cedric were chosen to represent hogwarts in the tournament, not you. don’t know where you got that idea from, considering you were hardly involved in the whole thing. ” hermione counters, her arms moving to fold over her chest defensively. this is the strangest she has ever seen him act, even considering his behavior during sixth year. and quite frankly, it’s beginning to make her head spin. “ you really don’t remember ? how strange. ” she narrows her eyes yet again, resisting the urge to hurl another wave of insults his way before sucking in a clean breath of air through her teeth and continuing. “ we actually managed to have a cordial conversation, and then we danced together . . . ” she hesitates, obviously torn over divulging the next piece of information to him. “ andthenikissedyou. ” the last bit comes out in a muffled jumble, a weak attempt on her part to hide perhaps the most important detail of the evening.

there’s an echo of silence that falls on him , his eyes watching curiously as the tears began to spill from them . he had never done well with stuff like this and it had knowingly hit a nerve withtin laurie . his lips twitched anxiously , allowing a held exhale to finally release itself. “ i do not remember any of that . it all feels fuzzy – i just remember leaving for europe, the entire lot of you not wanting anything to do with me. the last time i saw jo – i – ” oh god . he had completely lost his cool over the ring on her finger, it now seemed to dawn on him why she had put up such an argument over the notion . hands rubbing his forehead nervously , laurie’s dark curls had fallen across his face , shadowing the disgust with himself that seemed to hold itself present on each and every feature . “ why do i not remember that? should that not be something i remember? ” he states, defeat evident . “ this place – it makes me feel so weird – so displaced . ”
THE CONCERN IS EVIDENT across her features now, any ounce of irritation wiped away upon the realization that their perceived conflict was only a misunderstanding. meg easily falls back into the role of the older sister, lips pressed into a warm smile. “ you left for europe, yes. but we never cast you away, laurie. you always were and always will be like family to us. ” she reassures him, a hand moving to lightly rest on his forearm briefly. her brows knit together as she ponders the situation, a finger tapping against her lips. “ i will help you fix this, don’t worry. i’m sure there is some explanation for all of this. ” she offers as she paces back and forth, a look of complete determination present across her face. “ perhaps you’re coming down with something . . . are you feeling ill ? perhaps it’s a more modern illness, something we’ve never encountered before. ” she extends her hand to his forehead, the back of her palm pressed gently against his skin as she attempts to assess his temperature before retracting it. “ we’ll figure this out, i promise. ”

jessica looks at the drink in front of her, picking up the glass and downing the shot. before even speaking to the other, she motions the bartender over and request another drink. ❝ oh, we haven’t met. i’m jessica. don’t think you know me but i know about you. ❞ toothy grin forms on the vampire’s lips, flashing a smile full of fake niceness.
HER HANDS REMAIN STILL in her lap, not daring to make any moves. “ you know about me ? ” meg’s eyes widen in shock, surprised by the woman’s bold nature. she has never considered herself to be very popular around town, so the woman’s confession is startling to say the least. “ might i ask how ? i hope i haven’t done anything to accidentally offend you . . . ”

𝐃𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐒 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐍:
he peeks up at her when she talks about her life before here . a hint of a smile tugs at the corners of dallas’ features , picturing meg trying to shove her way through crowds to make sure she was near the center , although he was curious as to why she wouldn’t be the center of attention . ‘‘ what , being beautiful wasn’t enough for people back then ? couldn’t appreciate the face ? had to have the riches on top of that ? ’’ he asked , tilting his head to the side as he leaned against the frame that separated the kitchen from the rest of the house . not that he didn’t understand the necessity of money - he grew up in just the same ideologies . hell , he had to sell drugs to get through the week , stealing bread in hopes to have something to eat one night since he had been on his own since he was released from prison . multiple things that he was trying to avoid telling meg . he was lucky that she was even here , hopefully unaware of the company he had the night prior . pushing himself off the wall , he leaned against the top of the fridge with a chuckle echoing around the quiet home . chin rested on the top of his forearms , he watches as she reaches around to grab anything but the beer that was making itself known by being front & center . ‘‘ aren’t we supposed to live like we know ? ’’ he asked , unaware of how sad it sounded as he helped close the door . ‘‘ omelet is fine , meg . i’m not picky —- as you can see . i’m the one who told you not to worry about it . ’’ he mused , rubbing the back of his neck , nervously .
MEG RECALLS THE NIGHT of her first ( and only ) debutante ball. memories of the teasing from the other girls and the way laurie initially chastised her for trying to fit in flood into her mind, and for a brief moment, she remembers why she so desperately longed for that life. the thrill of that night was one she had been able to ride on for nearly the rest of her life, one of the many reasons why she had such a great time at the party. well that is, until she managed to mess it all up. “ for most, no it wasn’t. i suppose that’s how i ended up marrying a poor man. ” she adds with a light - hearted chuckle, trying to ignore the way the mention of her husband makes her stomach turn. after arranging the ingredients out on the counter neatly, she opens one of his cabinets in search of a bowl. “ yes, but i might add that it’s okay to take advantage of what we’re given, too. ” she says softly, giving him a pointed look as she abruptly moves back to the counter. “ i just want to do something . . . to fix this. ” she admits, idle hands falling onto the counter with a defeated sigh. meg’s eyes carefully move to meet his, teeth sinking into her lower lip. “ i feel terrible about last night, dallas. i would like to apologize --- i’m sorry . if i hurt your feelings, then i’m sorry for that too. i’d hate to think i ruined this. our friendship, i mean. ”

eloise smiled, wondering if she had just found a new friend and future patron. “well, i’ve always been quite fond of mysteries. i’m thinking of writing about a clever woman who solves all the tougher mysteries the police can’t solve. she solves them in secret by leaving the police messages and codes to find their culprit. she becomes a sort of rogue detective. i don’t know, does that sound interesting? i’ve never actually entertained the idea of publishing since it wasn’t allowed back home.”
“ i love mysteries ! ” she squeals, hands clasped together in front of her as she listens to eloise describe the plot. “ that sounds . . . like something i need to read immediately. how fast can you write ? ” she’s teasing, mostly. but the prospect of being in the midst of a potential author is all too exciting for hermione ---- it’s like a dream come true. “ you should definitely write it. ”

𝐉𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐄 𝐒𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐙𝐌𝐀𝐍:
“I’d heard some theories about what happens when you die, but this? This never came up.” It seemed too good at times, which she imagined would work perfectly for the people who truly deserved to be there. It seemed not everyone thought they were good enough to be there, which put into question why everything seemed so perfect, but somehow felt off. “I used to be. I let my reading slip the last few years. I was one of those people who kept buying books faster than I could get through them. I’d just made a promise to myself not to buy a new book until I read at least twenty of the ones I had right before I ended up here. It was weird timing. Were you? A big reader before?”
HERMIONE NODS IN AGREEMENT, grateful that she wasn’t the only one who was caught off guard. “ so had i. it still seems a bit too good to be true, to be honest. hence . . . all the research. ” to be fair, she was almost always researching something, but their new residence was proving to be a very interesting, and rather mysterious topic. “ i understand that completely. it’s hard to limit yourself to just one book when there are so many great ones out there. think you’ll stick to your promise here ? i suppose you still could, if you remembered some of the titles of your old books.” she adds with a small smile. “ i was, yes. still am --- it’s my favorite thing to do. ”

𝐏𝐀𝐃𝐌𝐄 𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐋𝐀:
she had just rested in the spot , comfortably leaned back as she was dedicated to her own book . a re - read of alice in wonderland , a book she had opened upon entering the good place & finding nothing but intrigue in the characters . a talking caterpillar , which became more worrisome when she researched what a caterpillar was on earth . she didn’t answer the other right away , peeking up from her book once she finished her paragraph with a slight smile on her lips . ‘‘ apologies , didn’t want to lose my place . ’’ she apologized , gently putting her novel down as she scanned the small nook that she was situated in . ‘‘ i can’t —– seem to see it . would you mind telling me the title ? or the colours the cover has ? ’’
IN ANY OTHER CIRCUMSTANCE, hermione could wholeheartedly understand the necessity to mark one’s page before delving into conversation. she’d done it many times herself, but she’s grown to be anything but patient now as her foot lightly taps against the wooden floor, one hand resting on her hip. “ it’s fine. ” she waves off the other’s hesitation with a shrug of her shoulders as one of her unruly curls falls out of her messily constructed braid to frame her face. “ it’s called ‘ the tales of beedle the bard. ’ the cover is blue, and has a picture of a man on the front. ” she explains, craning her neck to get a better view of the space from her position. “ i was only just here . . . i can’t imagine its gone far. ”

𝐁𝐄𝐓𝐇 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐇:
her heart began to skip when jules scooted closer – even though it was not unusual . from an outsiders perspective , jules was showing interest , but to beth , she was just looking for some friendly comfort . not only was beth trying to figure out her own sexual identity , but having to wonder what other people were interested in or where their line was - it was beginning to get stressful to the young woman . she wasn’t the type that was used to being of interest to any eyes , she would tuck herself away & allow her sisters to be in the spotlight , a place she was never comfortable in . looking over at jules , she let a shy smile begin to tug at the corners of her lips , leaning over to poke her nose back in retaliation . ‘‘ never quite understood how you could be a night owl . suppose just how i was raised . it’s surprising if you see me awake past nine in the evening , i’m still recovering from that new years dance . i enjoy sunrises , though - they are absolutely beautiful to watch . possibly we could watch one , one time ? ’’ eyes focus on her fingers that are picking at a loose thread on her cardigan as she asks her question , stomach flipping uncomfortably as she waited for the answer . ‘‘ oh , quite sure it is just a phase . next time i see you downtown , i’m sure you’ll have vanilla froyo on your chin . ’’ she said with a soft smile , not continuing to push but her eyes showing her worry as she finally allows them to connect with jules’ .
JULES HAS NEVER BEEN one to hide her interest in someone, but with beth it’s different. she enjoys her friendship so much that the last thing she wants to do is ruin it by confessing her feelings that are probably highly unlikely to be reciprocated anyway. so she holds it in instead, trying to cherish what moments she could spend with her without the risk of fucking it all up. “ it’s because of my darn phone. i swear to god, it forked up my sleep schedule so bad before i could even try to have a normal one. consequences of growing up with all this brand new technology, i guess. ” it was true --- jules ( and many other people her age ) had developed a nasty habit of scrolling on their phones until the late hours of the morning. truth be told, she used her devices as more of a distraction from all the stuff that was going on in her head, although beth was proving to be a much better alternative as of late. at the mention a sunrise, jules nods vigorously. “ of course you do --- but, how can i say no to that ? sometimes i’m still awake when the sun rises, so i would really love nothing more than to watch it with you. ” maybe she was being too candid, but she can’t seem to bring herself to care regardless. when she mentions frozen yogurt, she only laughs and shakes her head as she shifts just an inch closer. “ how is it that you know me so well, beth ? ” she breathes out as her hand moves to brush a fallen strand of hair out the other’s face, allowing it to linger for only a second before she drops it back into her lap.

animal crossing new horizons sentence starters pt. 2.
@holyghvsts - “ it’s always a treat, just getting to talk with you! “ ( anna & jules ! )
“ trust me, the feeling is mutual. ” anna exclaims as she dashes in front of jules. a stream of laughter flows from her lips as she twirls around, the beautiful dress she has onㅡwhich jules picked out for herㅡswishing in cadence.
the bedhead, tired eyes and tightly pulled lips that anna had on earlier today due to a bad night of sleep is nowhere to be found. “ we should do these… ‘ makeovers ’ more often. ” the girl says with a firm nod. she licks her lips slightly, for the word that she just picked up from jules still has a foreign feel. but anna quickly shrugs the sensation off, because she knows, like every other new thing she has come across here in the afterlife, she’ll get used to it soon.
JULES LEANS BACK ON her palms, watching as her friend floats around the room as she elicits a small laugh. “ i agree ! trust me, i have about a thousand other looks i want to try on you. ” not to mention, anna’s enthusiasm and willingness to let jules dress her up only added to how much she enjoyed spending time with her. she truly was the perfect muse, or whatever one wanted to call it. “ did you do stuff like this back where you’re from ? where i’m from this is like, all teenage girls wanted to during middle and high school. but i never really had anyone to do it with . . . until now ! ” she admits, beaming brightly as she moves to tuck her legs underneath her.

“ you must be here for book club , are you ? ” sabrina questions , glancing over her shoulder . eager lying gesturing to the seat beside her , the large stack of books resting on the table while two copies rest on the lap of her orange and yellow tweed dress . it’s apparent that the two are the first to arrive , with sabrina having joined the table nearly an hour previously , her carefully organized textbook littered with past meeting reports . “ which book did you bring ? ” she questions , allowing the front of her book to be seen . “ i brought the phantom tollbooth . it’s a kids book , but it’s so enjoyable . ” @selectedhq-starters·
BELLA HAD BEEN RELUCTANT to attend the meeting, but after weeks of internal debate, she decided attending one meeting really couldn’t hurt. that doesn’t stop her nerves from going wild as she enters the cafe that afternoon, a small tote bag slung over her shoulder. she’s just about to find her own table and wait for someone else to arrive until she’s called out to, approaching them slowly. “ that obvious ? ” she grimaces as she slides into the seat, palms pressed firmly into her lap. “ i’ve never read that one. ” she admits as she pulls her tote bag into her lap, producing a tattered paperback book from it’s depths. “ i brought an older classic ----- emma by jane austen. ”

𝐃𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐎 𝐌𝐀𝐋𝐅𝐎𝐘:
he had often found himself in confrontational situations , whether it be home or school , he was a natural magnet for such things . so he inhaled sharply , opening his mouth to retort pack aggressively – and instead , his entire mouth went dry , leaving the man completely speechless . staring at the woman in shock of his own body’s actions , and practically cursing it for allowing such a thing to happen under these circumstances . " i don’t know what you’re even talking about ! “ draco had found his voice , although it was much shriller than usual . ” what chance ? what are you even going on about ? it’s been years since i’ve even seen you . you die in a tri-wizard cup and suddenly everyone things you’re a coward – you’re going on like a sphinx , complete nonsense . why did you even come over ? to make fun of me ? fork sake , i’ve heard enough . “ the upset is clear , displayed across draco’s entire face like a failed painting .
WHENEVER HERMIONE ENTERED ANY situation, she always thought of every possible reason it could go wrong. the situation ( or whatever one wanted to call it ) she had gotten herself into with draco malfoy was certainly no exception. in fact, she’d spent nearly half the night after the party dreaming up all the ways he might hurt her the next day, if only to protect her already fragile heart. but she hadn’t expected this, which seems to only make the reality of it sting worse. “ the tri - wizard tournament ? just how delusional have you become, malfoy ? you didn’t die in the tournament, you weren’t even a participant ! or is that just another lie you’ve concocted to fuel your ego here ? ” her rage is seething, palms smacking against the table as she glares at him. “ i came over to get my book, and to talk to you ---- ” she reminds him, rather harshly, gritting her teeth. “ but i can see any chance of having civil discourse with you is futile. look, if you wanted to pretend that the other night didn’t happen, you could have just said so ! ” now she's just left looking like a fool, but she assumes that is mostly intentional on his part.

𝐇𝐀𝐘𝐃𝐄𝐍 𝐌𝐂𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐄:
hayden pretends she doesn't hear hermione or see her outstretched hand , instead focusing her attention on the rusty yellow cover of the book. “the tales of beedle the bard," she reads with squinting , judgmental eyes. her fingers flip the book open , browsing its pages. if there was a way to make hayden even less interested in books or reading , this hardcover has succeeded in doing so. but she attempts to hide this as she glances back up at the woman and her lips turn up in a smirk. "i need a favor.”
WAS SHE BEING SERIOUS ? hermione wasn’t so sure. her brows furrow, her hand resting on her hip as she waits for hayden to admit that she’s joking and return the book. she only becomes worried when that realization doesn’t come, but she refuses to fall victim to her obvious attempts of intimidation. steadying her breath, she sets her hard gaze on the other before she speaks again. “ ask kimmy, then. that’s what she’s here for, isn’t it ? ” she offers hayden an obviously forced smile, eyes narrowing.

𝐆𝐔𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐂𝐊:
letting out a joyful laugh , beck falls in step with bella as they began moving towards her home . ‘‘ not that i’m not —- organized , i just feel more at home while living out of boxes , you know ? like i know what is in each box , i’m organized in that sense , but i used to live in new york so it’s kind of the vibe to live like that . ’’ she said with a chuckle , moving her hair out of her face & allowing it to fall over her left shoulder , peeking down at her new friend . it was so refreshing to say those words ; her new friend . a friend that wasn’t desperately trying to make her into someone she wasn’t or prying at her mood . someone that was comfortable talking about books over a bottle of wine , laughing at the jokes that only die hard book lovers would understand . maybe the good place wasn’t horrible . ‘‘ mostly , yes ! although i’m sure a few of my favourites weren’t allowed in the good place . i like myself a good tragedy , guess it goes along with my mess of a life . ’’ she said with a smirk on her lips , bumping her hip lightly against bella’s as they made their way up the steps towards her apartment , unlocking the door moments after , pushing the door open with her butt . ‘‘ there is no such thing as too many books . ’’ she said , kicking the door shut behind them . ‘‘ welcome to —– disaster . ’’
THIS WAS REALLY ALL she wanted. someone who she could have a conversation with that didn’t feel forced or fake, much like many of the interactions had with her so - called friends back in forks. with beck it was easy and natural, something she hadn’t realized she had been craving until now. “ ah, that makes sense. new york ? i always wanted to visit, but i got the chance. never really left the west coast. ” bella admits, though it suddenly feels silly to say. she spent all her time invested in the worlds described within the pages of her favorite books, but had never bothered to explore her own. typical. “ who doesn’t love a good tragedy ? unless you find yourself living in one, that is. still, it’s one of my favorite genres.” she nods her head in agreement as she steps inside the home, gaze wandering across the various boxes that were littered around the space. beck really wasn’t kidding when she said her house was full of books, but it wasn’t overwhelming in the slightest. in fact, it made her feel more at home than anything. “ a beautiful disaster. i love your place. truly a reader’s paradise. ” she offers her a small smile as she shrugs off her coat, folding it over her arm. “ is this similar to your place back in new york ? ”

the girl cocks her head to the side in hesitation, but still chooses to approach the other. “ i was wondering if someone could help me choose what to read next. ” she adds. her turquoise eyes are focused on everywhere else but the person standing in front of her, mesmerized by the stories kept in the shelves.
when anna realizes a beat too late of where her mind has wandered off to, she scratches the back of her neck with a sheepish smile. “ i’m sorry, there are just so many books ! i don’t think i’ve seen these many books when i was alive…. or dead, i guess ? ”
“ anyway, i’m pretty much open to anything, so, i would love to get some help, possibly because i’ve been standing in this store for at least an hour now. ” anna asks cautiously while drumming her fingers against each other.
WHEN BELLA DID HER bookstore browsing, she preferred to do so alone and undisturbed. not only that, but she’s never believed herself to be the most approachable person. so she’s a little more than surprised when the other seems to be genuinely interested in her advice. she finds it strange, more so because it’s something she would never do, especially not to a stranger. nevertheless, bella closes the book in her hands with, eyebrows raised in question as she peers at the red - head curiously. “ um sure, i guess. ” the hesitation is evident in her tone as she leans against the bookcase. “ do you struggle with indecision often ? ” the question is meant to be genuine, but it tumbles out from her mouth with more sarcasm than intended. she clears her throat, straightening her posture. “ i might need you to be a little more specific than ‘ open to anything. ’ what was the last book you read ? ”

𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐎𝐃𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄:
there is an air of frustration that lingers around her statements , laurie’s eyes focused – attempting to detect any lapse in meg’s apology . instead , he’s left peering up with watery eyes and a harsh exhale leaving his lungs . " i do not know what you’re talking about . " he exclaims , his hands clasped in fists at his sides . " i remember this so plainly , i refuse to allow this to be a dream . your family wished for nothing to do with me , my letters went unanswered – i was deemed unwelcome . " his voice is breaking with emotion , the genuine upset written clearly on the man’s normally stoic features . " and do you not think i would remember if jo had ever said yes to me ? do you not think i would shout such news from every roof top , i cannot bear to understand why it would be so cruel to bring this up . is she not engaged to another as i do believe ? " it was now that he teetered on the edge of the question , his outburst with jo over her ring now seemed to be plausible . " it does not seem to be something one would forget , especially not i . "
MEG’S CONFUSION CONTINUES TO grow as the seconds tick by, brows furrowing as she listens to him rattle on. she is no stranger to his tantrums, but she had hoped they would have faded with maturity. obviously she was wrong. “ well, i also do not know what you’re talking about ! there is obviously some sort of miscommunication here. ” but it couldn’t on her part. no, meg is rather sure of the pleasant news that had been spread throughout the march family. of course, she had been overjoyed. the eldest march had always considered laurie to be a part of their family, but it was exciting to know that it would soon become official. she elicits a deep sigh, raking a hand through her hair as she softens her gaze, determined to set the record straight. “ please calm down. i’ll tell you what i believe to be true : if jo is not engaged to you, then she is not engaged to anyone. i was informed that upon your arrivals, the two of you were able to mend your relationship and you proposed to her again, and she accepted. i just saw the two of you together at the new year’s eve ball, happy together i might add, so i don’t understand where all this confusion is coming from. ”
