Hey all, I'm starting a new tumblr/IG called @badpixel_ and it'll be a dumping ground if some design and digital art exploration, focusing on a high-octane, retro aesthetic. Kinda like some of the crap I post on here but with intentionality. I'll be deleting old stuff from this current account and some of aforementioned crap to keep it "good iPhoneography". Follow Bad Pixel and knock yourself out. Not much going on there quite yet, but stay tuned.

Another table illustration. Today I met with freelance illustrator and filmmaker Charlie Griak for coffee. Picked up a lot of great wisdom and encouragement. Haven't done one of these in a while, it was satisfying to make! On top of that, I just haven't blogged at all since graduation. If you're wondering how I'm doing... the job search is rolling! Great to be in Minneapolis.

Just finished up my digital photo portfolio class with a solid series! I wanted to focus on the "glory" of what man and machine can build together. Compositionally, I focused on strong use of line and form. Low, golden sunlight is a marked feature and I brought that out as I was editing.

For my American Music class, I presented on the band Rush... This is easily the most time I've spent making a presentation awesome-looking.
These aren't all the slides. That'd be overkill.

I’m really getting into these. I’m getting a little more detailed and accurate with this one, especially compared to the first. The thing that I love the most in this new one is the light that falls across the table from a low angle. It’s teaching me to look at the setup in front of me to see the details and how light affects it all, a skill also picked up in my lighting photography class.

DECONSTRUCTING IMAGES 5
Portrait of Robert Downey Jr.. Low angle, lit from either side and front, probably increased contrast in post. The high accuracy in placement of light on only the left (our right) side of his face calls for a strip box, and the reflection in his eyes gives that away too. It's clear even on the nose that there is more lighting him from the sides, and obviously by the highlights on the sides of his face. With the rough texture, it's likely not diffused highlights. Said highlights are coming from lights placed at or slightly above his eye level. Background, black, is placed far behind him, or the key light may have created a halo.
