Yom Kippur is the Holiest of days for all Jews and is celebrated as a Day of Atonement. Jews believe that on Yom Kippur their fate is sealed (whether they are to live or die) in the ‘Book of life’. A few days prior to Yom Kippur, greeting cards are sent, festive meals are enjoyed and charity/donations are made.
