finals
so awkward but I kind of forgot about this page until my dad texted me, asking if I was going to post anything...so here I am.
I have officially started writing my finals which is kind of killing me slowly. I have 5 essays to write by Thursday. F I V E. And then I have to write another one for Friday. Meanwhile, I still have classes through Wednesday so I am all over the place. I have turned into hermit mode where no one will see me unless they need to.
earlier today, I had an exam in world politics which went well. Right now I am waiting on my laundry which is in the dryer and then I will really start to work on those essays. Thursday is going to be a super crazy day for me because I have to turn in a portfolio, take an exam, turn in a final, go to Homeplace with my campus ministry, and then go to a diversity meeting. sooooo much to do and so little time. after I finish writing this, I am going to start editing one of my essays for my portfolio and then will try to sleep since I have to get up at 6:30 tomorrow morning for a meeting at 7:30. this week is just asking for me to not be able to sleep at all...pls send prayers.
p.s. I will actually write something better than this when I am home, but I am stressing out right now so I figure this is a good break from writing.
can’t wait to see some of you when I get home!!!!

hello it’s me
hi friends,
I have no excuse for not posting anything, other than the fact that I am frozen solid and trying to find equilibrium. The high for this week is 50 degrees and the low is 19. NINETEEN. It actually snowed a few weeks ago, so I don't know what to do since I am not okay with cold weather. but it’s okay because my parents are sending my cold weather accessories and I will be fine again when I receive those (thanks again, mom) (shout out to you dad for telling mom) (appreciate you both very much)
I went to Virginia Beach this past weekend and hung out and it was great! Stayed at a beach house with the Thomas’ and it was just the break from Blacksburg that I needed. We also went bowling and I broke 100 which I do not think I have ever done in my whole 19 years of living. I drove down there with some people and the guy who sat in front of me in the car was at least 6′ 4 so I had absolutely no leg room but it’s okay...it was a free ride.
this week has been kind of insane, I had a logic exam on Monday, a paper due Monday, 2 papers due Wednesday, a quiz on Wednesday in world politics, and a paper due Friday. I have also had a scheduled lunch every day this week so you could say I’m kind of popular (hahaha just kidding I have like 5 friends) I had work on Sunday from 5:45 to 9 and had to ref 3 games which is the most dodgeball games anyone has ever reffed so go me!!! I am going to the men’s basketball game on Friday at 6 and then will probably eat dinner after...I am supposed to be going to a leadership summit on Saturday but that’s from 8-4 and that’s just too early and too long for me, so we’ll see if I make that...and then I have work on Sunday. Next week is another crazy week since it’s the last time we’ll be in class until after Thanksgiving Break.
also I am currently in a war with the neighbors across the hall from me. As you all know, it was election day on Tuesday which was taken very seriously here in Virginia but especially in Blacksburg. I was on a team that went out and got people registered to vote, so that was pretty cool! (that’s also what started this war) We were going to all of the dorms asking people if they were registered and being pretty easy going because honestly it’s dorms so we know most of these people might not be registered even when they say they are...anyway we were in my hallway and one of the boys that was in the group knocked on my neighbors’ door and the boy yelled from the other side of it, telling us to leave so the group just moved down to the next door and knocked there. everything would’ve been fine if my neighbor, who we had just left, wouldn’t have opened his door and told us “f you” (obviously he said the mean word) and we all just looked at each other and kinda laughed because it was very uncomfortable. eventually the group left and I came back to my room and everything was fine. Tuesday night, when all the results were coming out, my neighbor opened his door and just starts yelling about how unhappy he is, slams his door, then opens it and starts yelling again. “he’s not my governor! I’m going to take a knee every time the Virginia state song plays” (which actually kills me, that’s such a funny thing to say because my whole year and a half that I have been at Tech, I have never heard the Virginia state song) and then he taped a sign on his door which is a picture of the governor and #NotMyGovernor. honestly the whole situation is funny to me because I already didn’t like the guy but now he has just gone off the deep end. he walks around, mad at everyone, and not once has he ever tried to make conversation with me so when my hallmates have come up to me to ask what’s going on with him, all I can do is shrug because ya girl doesn’t have a clue. Update: someone wrote on his sign...the hall has turned against him.
anyway, welcome to tech I guess...
#he is still so angry#nothing but respect for my governor#who isn't even my governor#haha just a Texan in Virginia#hahaha yikes

does anyone still read this?
with week six gone and past I am happier and (probably) healthier.
I went to a tech volleyball game Friday night and got a free tech tank top, so that was lit, and then got free dinner provided by the team since I won the little lottery thing. I had a creative writing workshop in class Friday and everyone said that my poem was depressing and that they weren’t expecting that out of me, so that was kind of cool to see what people thought about my writing.
Saturday I spent with the boys, I went over there since one of the boys made chili and made a comment that it probably wasn’t as good as Texas chili so he made me try it (it could’ve been spicier) but it was pretty good, and then I ended up watching college football with them. Then the girls picked me up and we went to like 7 stores to get various objects, most of these were related to various articles of clothing...like Halloween socks....and then I went back to the boys to watch the tech vs boston college game (which we won, I really wish our o-line was better though) (this week is our bye week and it’s also fall break) it’s lit. Sunday I had work, which I was telling my parents that reffing dodgeball is fun but since it was the first week, out of the 8 games I should’ve had, I only had 2. There were so many forfeits since people forgot that dodgeball started Sunday. it was still fun though!! Then I had lots of homework to do, I thought that I had been ahead on homework but turns out I was not, so I had to stay up later than usual in order to get it done, but everything was on time and was to my standards so we are all good.
Monday started off pretty good, I woke up and got a large coffee from dunkin but then I realized that was weather was awful...and I realized that because it started to pour as I was walking to class, so that was fantastic. The humidity was 99% and it was cloudy so it’s been super gross outside, I just want the nice fall weather. I tried to go to bed early but my roommate got back super late and made a ton of noise coming in, so my plan of sleeping fell apart. (also this makes me think that I am a light sleeper or something because I hear her every morning)
Tuesday I tried to sleep in but that didn't happen so I finished some of my homework and then I had lunch with my roommate from last year and then had small group at 5:30 and then had to do more homework...and I also watched some episodes of The West Wing, I’m trying to get to the 5th season, but it has taken me a while. Wednesday was crazy busy for me as everyone was making sure they had done everything before fall break starts.
this weekend I only have one plan and that is to go to the store and buy tie dye and tie dye jerseys for our intramural flag football team and I am actually so excited for it!!!
I wish this was more interesting for you all, but I have done nothing fun so it’s a lame time for me. see ya next week!!!!!!!

week 6
welcome back to another week of hokie homie!! I’m your host, Rebecca!
this week has been insane. I had work, college game day, the football game, dodgeball training, and all of my professors decided to put everything this week. But I am alive and that’s all I can ask for.
Thursday I had work until 8:15 and I had to ask one of the refs I worked with if he would drive me to large group which was literally on the other side of campus (and would’ve been a 33 minute walk so no thank you) and I was only 30 minutes late but that’s okay!! I got to hear another version of the Parable of the Two Sons and it was a really great message that I am glad I got to hear. We then went to cookout afterwards (like we always do) and I got a coffee milkshake which is my favorite thing ever and then I came back and fell asleep so fast.
Friday I had classes until 12 and in my creative writing class I found out that there is a white supremacist, neo-Nazi in the English department, he is a graduate student who is teaching English 1105, an introductory course, and the school has no grounds to fire him yet. The story is that apparently some of his students went and looked him up on facebook and saw some posts that were scary. here is a link containing some of his posts: https://newriveragainstfascism.wordpress.com/2017/09/26/fascist-threat-in-the-nrv-profile-on-mark-neuhoff/ so yeah go us. I didn’t really do anything Friday but at my friend’s apartment we watched London Has Fallen which is not as great as I thought it was, but we finished that and then went to bed as we had to get up at 3:15 in order to make it in line for College Game Day, which I was the only one to wake up on time but it’s cool we still made it)
College Game Day was so fun!! We had to wait 5 hours for it to start and you have to stand the whole time, but it was fun (even though they made us do Enter Sandman like 3 times so everyone’s legs were tired) We ended up not staying the whole time because my friend and I were so tired and hungry and angry because we were tired and hungry, so we left to take showers and to eat Panera (which was the best decision ever.) Then I took a nap and we went to her family friend’s tailgate where they had white chicken chili (it was sooooooo yummy) and we were there for about an hour and a half and then we went to the game. I was seated in section 21, she was seated in section 23, and we made it to section 3 so thanks section 23 seat checker for not watching us move down 20 sections. I stayed the whole game, and even though we lost, the game was actually so much fun. I was in the student section and there were parents behind us who were laughing so hard because of all of the student section traditions and everything. We also held up signs and I made it on tv!!!! (my parents missed me because they were too busy watching the LSU game but whatevs) We didn’t get back to my friend’s apartment until around 1 something and then we both went to other people’s apartments to hang out until around 3 when we made a cookout run because that was the only food place open in Blacksburg.
Sunday I did a whole bunch of nothing. I did some homework and was annoyed with my roommate because she decided to take a 3 hour nap at 3 pm when I am trying to write a paper but it’s cool, I got the paper done and turned it in on Monday. On Monday I got up and made it to dunkin donuts by 8:30 so I got breakfast before class!! And then in my first class, Knowledge and Reality, my professor moved the exam back to Wednesday, which I am very grateful for. My second class, Creative Writing, was interesting as we are currently writing spoken word poetry and can write about anything we want. I wrote about how men say women shouldn’t be involved in certain areas of study, and then we were assigned a new poem which was based off of a slam poem called “Ten Responses to the Phrase ‘Man Up’” and my poem was “Ten Responses to the Phrase ‘You’d Look Much Prettier if You Smiled’” it was lit. A bunch of girls wrote about catcalls and there were also a lot of mental health poems, which was cool since mental health isn’t talked about much in classrooms. My third class, Logic, was boring and I hate that class so much. Honestly, the rest of my classes were also very boring so I won’t put you through the excruciating details. I had dodgeball training because ya girl made dodgeball ref!! There’s only 20 of us so I am very happy that I was selected because dodgeball is the most fun training and the most fun reffing. I will now work on Sundays, starting this week, and I even got a better ref shirt that is dry fit and makes me look all official.
Tuesday was just spent trying to get all of my work and studying done, and then I had small group that night. On Wednesday nothing special happened, I had a free will exam where I had to say if I believed in free will, determinism or both and that was interesting because I truly do not know what I believe in there, the arguments for both sides are just too good. I was also the first one to be done with the exam so that was interesting, but I think I at least got a B so there’s that. I also think that I have pink eye so this week is actually testing me and my patience levels but it’s cool I am strong. I got all my homework done early so I didn't really have anything to do Wednesday night but that’s better than being overworked...I was just very bored.
have a great week y’all!

od-who?
the football team has been dominating lately, they beat ECU two weeks ago 64-17, and they beat ODU Saturday 38-0. This week the boys play Clemson, which should be an interesting game as the last time we played them was the ACC Championship game and we only lost by a touchdown, so it should be pretty good. Both teams are 4-0 and are both ranked, Clemson is ranked 2nd and Tech is ranked 12th. College Game Day is coming and I am trying to think of a funny quote to put on a poster so that it’ll get featured, so if you can think of anything let me know!
my weeks are getting pretty sluggish as I write papers all day and then work until 11:30 twice a week. Being a ref is harder than I thought it would be because players like to yell when they’re not happy and I’ve been yelled at a few times. But I got to give one player a yellow card and then threaten another boy with a yellow card and that shut him up reallllll quick. I was supposed to work three times this week but had to give up one of my shifts when there’s a mandatory hall meeting. I had a ref meeting on Tuesday where the supervisors just tell us what happened during the week prior and tell us what to work on, and this week they are also asking us what other sports we would be interested in working. I was thinking about flag football but it’s late October to late November and it gets pretty cold so I’m not quite sure if I want to do that. I am thinking about working dodgeball because that’s only a 20 minute training session and I just stand there and make sure people leave when they get hit, so that is a super easy job and I think I could manage that without getting yelled at.
last week I was pretty sick and it was awful, my whole body just hurt and my head was pounding but I had to do so much work and I probably pushed myself harder than I should have, but school is very important and I didn't want to fall behind. I had to write a 15 page paper on William Faulkner that was due Monday and that paper was just pure torture, I am not a huge fan of Faulkner and am in the middle of one of his short stories and it is just such a slow read. I also had an exam on Monday (in world politics) that I completely forgot about until Sunday night when I was checking my planner to make sure I had done all of my homework, so I had to study between my classes and during lunch, but I feel pretty good about the exam so fingers crossed!! this week has otherwise been pretty sane, but next week I will be all over the place with exams and papers so I am not working at all (thank you Jesus)
fall is finally upon us and the leaves have started to change colors here so I am in my happy place, fall and football. the average daily temperatures are starting to decrease and I am so here for it, I love fall weather (except that I have to walk a mile to get to one of my classes and by the time I get there I am on the brink of sweating and I honestly think the weather won’t even help that) also I have been having some roommate problems so if y’all could just send happy thoughts and vibes it would be much appreciated.
happy end of September!!! Go hokies!!!

fall retreat
wow y’all this weekend was absolutely amazing. It was so short and I wish it had been longer, but I am happy with how it went. I went ziplining, swam in a lake, went through a corn maze in the middle of the night (where people jumped out at us every 20 seconds), and played some Mario kingdom land games. I have a couple of bruises on my left calf that show I will go and fight til the death in human foosball, was hit in the face with one of those dodgeballs while playing moleball, was completely forgot about in ultimate Frisbee, and we played 9 square volleyball, which is a mash up of four square and volleyball. I am sore from all of the activities, and honestly a little grossed out from how disgusting the beds were and how little water pressure the shower had, but all of the little mishaps aside-It was a great weekend. I am so happy that I changed my mind and decided to go because I know that this weekend has so many stories and moments I would have hated to miss.
before I left for the retreat, I had a payroll meeting which I thought was in the gym farther away from me when in reality, it was at the gym that is located right across the street from where I live, so I was a couple of minutes late to that but it worked out since I had already done all of the necessary paperwork and she just had to put me in the system. I had already packed for the trip since I knew that I would probably be running a little late and was on my way to go meet with a freshman who was going on the trip with us. We ended up being a little late with meeting with everyone else but it’s okay because we still had to wait longer for others, and in the end our car was the first to leave (and the last to arrive but it’s cool because we have a picture with a chicken statue.) most people in the group did not have service but God bless Verizon because I had LTE!!! I wasn’t on my phone much but I wanted to keep my snapchat streaks alive and randomly text my parents so they would know that I was alive.
the first night we got there around 8? and we had a worship session and listened to the first talk of the weekend, and the theme was introduced and it was all about the Book of Ruth. I really enjoyed all of the talks and could really appreciate all of the work that was put into the sessions. After a few hours we got onto a school bus and went to a corn maze that was designed to be like the game of Pac-Man, so there were people in the maze, “Ghosts,” who would jump out and give us a task to do in order to move on. I swear that my group was always getting stopped and we did the most tasks, which include singing “this little light of mine” at the top of our lungs, reciting John 3:16 as a group, answering a riddle, forming a human pyramid, running with our hands up in the air and screaming, and crab walking (which none of us did). It was a lot and we were actually the last group to finish but we did keep getting stopped so it didn’t really matter (we also had a girl get a really good ear of corn so really we won). I ended up staying up until 5 am that night with 3 of my friends as we talked about everything from how we see our Christian Ministry working out this year to Henry Clay, which lead to a huge debate on whether he could have been a good president or not...Henry Clay died in 1852...but it was a great conversation none the less.
We had breakfast so we had to wake up at 8, and after breakfast we had a session, this one included sun salutations! (it was weird), then we listened to our speaker, who is also the one in charge of my ministry, go in deeper with the story of Ruth and how it applies to today. The context is very important in a lot of Biblical stories since we can’t often relate to exactly what is happening. We listened for a good bit of time before we ate lunch (which was some weird taco salad thing that definitely was not seasoned well). After lunch we played Mario Kingdom games which was actually a lot of fun! Mostly everyone in the ministry is really competitive so the games get super intense. Human foosball was a huge win for my team as we won 10-4 and the offense dominated (go me!! and two others) then we played mole ball which was like the opposite of foosball, there were holes in the platform where you stood and you couldn’t move, that hole was your spot, so you had to throw the balls to teammates in order to score, it was hard and that’s when I got hit in the face. We lost that game 10-9, so the last game was the tiebreaker, and that game ended up being ultimate Frisbee which the ministry is super into and a few of my friends are actually on the club team. We won that game 10-5 so my team was pretty happy. After that, everyone got together and played 9 square volleyball, and in each square there was 3 or 4 of us. My square had 3 of us and we were all girls but luckily we’re all on the taller side of the girls so we were pretty good. There was one team that was the king of the court for the longest time and everyone tried to get them out. then we rode on a school bus and were told that we had 3 1/2 hours of free time, and that we could do a plethora of different activities so I ziplined and went swimming in the lake and then ended up talking with a group of people for a while. I also took a shower and let me tell you, I think I could have stood in rain and would’ve been cleaner than I was after that shower. The water pressure was so low and the water was extremely cold and it was just a mess. but hey at least I was somewhat clean...then we ate dinner and had another session which then led to small group time where everyone shared their stories. My small group had 4 people including the leader, but one of the people was also a leader with a freshmen girl’s group so she was with them most of the time. I'd say that my group got pretty close by the end of the weekend as we spent a ton of time together and there was only 4 sophomores total, one being a boy.
We had a campfire that night and we watched the stars, had smores, and tried to take pictures which kind of failed? but they're still cute so it’s cool. On sunday we were leaving at 11 so we had breakfast at 8:30, had a final session and then had to clean everything up. It was a really fun weekend and I definitely got pretty close to some of the people there and I am happy to say that I can now call those people friends!!
coming back was hard because I had a lot of homework to do, so I read everything I had to read in the car and then wrote my papers when I got back to my dorm. I also went to Walmart and had to find a bronze frog sculpture for one of the papers. I had a logic quiz/exam thing on Monday and had to write two more papers. I also have work on Wednesday and have to work Thursday night so that’ll be lame but gotta get that money!!

rain rain go away
hey y’all!! my week has gone by considerably smoother than last week and I am feeling goooooood!
My classes are getting into the swing of things and I have a quiz on Monday in language and logic. My creative writing class is starting to have roundtables but my poetry isn’t getting looked at until later this month, so I’m not stressing at all about that. My knowledge and reality class is going over a book on free will and determinism and I really like to hear the different arguments and how people in my class are also debating on whether or not they believe in free will and determinism. It's an interesting time. My American Literary History class is super boring, but we have a paper due on Wednesday about the Native Americans who lived where we currently live, so I’ve been researching tribes in the San Antonio area. The class is only boring because my professor spends the whole class going over a topic that should only take about 20 minutes, and no one else speaks at all. But my favorite class is World Politics. I love hearing about international law and learning about countries that we don’t often hear about since they’re smaller or since they’re on the other side of the world. It's so interesting to see how they govern themselves and why the United States will put themselves into some situations but not others. Also, my professor in that class is great and she gets so excited when she talks about political science that it’s hard to not be interested in what she’s saying.
Last week, I mentioned that the football game should be an easy one for the boys and they did not disappoint. The score ended up being 27-0 and it was just a great home opener, especially since the quarterback is a freshman and he got to experience Lane Stadium packed full with students and fans. The student section is always a fun place to be and I just really love football so I was at home there. This week, the boys are traveling to East Carolina to play.
This weekend I am going on a fall retreat with my Christian ministry and we’re going out to the middle of nowhere and supposedly it’s really fun, but I don't know because I was talked into going by just about everyone in the ministry. I am excited though because for once it’s not supposed to rain this weekend!! We’ve been getting rain from Hurricane Irma so I am so excited to have clear weather and to not have to wear a raincoat. (Just because I said that it’s probably going to rain) I am just hoping that it is warm enough to jump into the lake because I know that even if it isn't, the group I am with will want to and that’s a no from me.
I got a job!! I am an intramural sports referee, currently refing soccer and then my next two sports are dodgeball and flag football. Monday night I had training and they wanted us to be at the fields by 5:20 so I had to leave class early (only time I will ever do that) and get there and then the 5:30 game was a forfeit----with only one person showing up! We decided to wait until the 6:30 game and then it started raining, so there’s 3 of us in training, it’s 45 degrees outside and raining and right then I wondered what would happen if I quit right there, because I definitely thought about it. I mean, I couldn’t feel my hands and my face was so cold. It was a mess but refing is fun so it’ll be worth it!!
stay safe and stay tuned for my next post!!

hi
Sophomore year has been a complete rush and I’m honestly thinking that I have lost a little bit of my mind. I’ve been running around like a chicken with its head cut off and It’s just so messy. I have six classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, three on Fridays, and none on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ideally, those would be the days that I would be doing homework but life has a funny way of flipping whatever I planned into something totally different.
I am still in my Christian ministry and am sitting with them at the first home football game!! the boys play Delaware on Saturday and it should be a fairly easy game, so it’ll be great as the first home game. On Sunday, the boys played West Virginia and won and that led to them being bumped up on the AP poll.
Tomorrow is GobblerFest where all the clubs and organizations come out on the drillfield and convince freshmen to sign up. I am working the Political Science booth and am also giving out free shirts so that means my booth will be crazy busy. Everyone loves a good free shirt.
I am about to go to my first large group of the year and am really excited to see the freshmen!! There are so many and they’re all so excited to be here, so it makes me so excited to talk to them. Tech let in 7,000 new freshmen this year so we do have a bit too many, but it’s okay, they all make the campus better (even if they hog all the dining halls.)
I will update y’all next week and hopefully (fingers crossed) it’ll be longer than this!!! Bye!!!

happy sixth of july!!
hope everyone had a safe and fun fourth of july!!!! I went to the frio river with Nichole and her extended family and it was definitely an adventure. We drove up Monday night and we had no service about 30 minutes out from the rv park, then when we all were sleeping in the camper (there were 7 of us with 2 1/2 beds and one couch) the ac broke and it was H O T. We all thought about just sleeping in tubes outside of the camper, or even sleeping in the laundry room, but we ended up driving the 2 hours back to schertz, slept at nichole’s house and then drove back. Did I mention that this happened at like 2 in the morning???? We didn’t get to schertz until around 5:30ish and didn’t go to sleep until around 6. We drove down some children-of-the-corn-creepy roads and were screaming and laughing the whole time. On the fourth, we were in the river basically the whole day, and then I started the grill (Wayne Bush taught me something useful!!!) since none of the boys knew how to. We didn’t get back home until around 11 at night, but it was so much fun.
Last week I went to The Pearl with one of my friends and we went to Lick where I got coffee with cream ice cream and we took a bunch of pictures and it was a really good time. We walked all the way to MOMA and then walked alllll the way back and hung out some more. Then we went to Krispy Kreme and then I picked up Garcia’s for my family. The Pearl was pretty empty so it was the perfect time to go and just take pictures.
The next day, mom, Zach, Gabby, and I all went to Six Flags with the Hamiltons and made friends with their cousins. I made the bigger kids ride in the backseat on ever roller coaster and one of the cousins cried on one of the rides, all of us were laughing and other people were watching us like we were crazy. Jaden even pulls his phone out and starts filming her crying on snapchat. It was a fun day even though it was hot and I was scared I was going to run into people from high school (thank goodness I didn’t). A few days later, we all went to a cold treats place where I got mangonada and I have never been happier. I can’t tell you how many people asked me what it was, especially all my Virginia friends. Sadly, the girls are leaving the Hamiltons today so I won’t get to see them anymore, but last night we all went to Big Lou’s to say goodbye.
In a few weeks (13 days), my little family is going on our family vacation to go do touristy stuff in Houston and I am actually pretty excited about it. It’ll be a good break from Schertz and both Zach and Gabby are excited so it’s hard to not feel excited about the trip. So stay tuned for that!!!

sweet summertime
hi!! it’s been 2 months and I’m sorry it’s been so long.
I can’t say that I’ve been really busy because well I haven’t, but I am now dedicated to this blog and providing you all with quality content since I haven’t been before.
let’s start off with where we ended. the last two weeks of school was absolutely crazy as I was juggling studying, packing, and saying my goodbyes. I have a few friends who graduated in May and it was sad to have to say goodbye as I won’t be seeing them every single day or even a couple of times a month. the last few weeks I sort of became disconnected with a lot of my friends because I was very stressed and I know that I shouldn’t have done that, but I am taking the step to stay in contact with my friends and making sure I continue my friendships, as these are people I want in my life forever. luckily, most of my friends are from northern virginia so they’re still pretty close to me (and most are working in DC which is only a 3 hour drive away!!!) I got a 4.0 for the spring semester!!!! Hard work pays off. This semester I only had two finals where I had to go sit in a class and take a test and one of those was on my birthday when my mom, sister, cousin, and grandma were all in Blacksburg waiting for me to finish. That was the test I was really worried about but I studied for it for weeks and knew that I was as prepared as I could be.
In the fall semester, I will be a teacher’s assistant and will also be an intramural sports referee. Taking on two jobs while also attending class won’t be easy but I know that I can manage, especially since I’m wanting to save up money. I will also be taking on 18 credit hours in the fall and am hoping to not kill my social life.
Since I have been home, I have not really done anything productive. I have hung out with my aunt and uncle a few times, which has been super great as I missed them dearly and know that I am their favorite (it’s okay, I won’t tell zach and gabby.) I am working on getting tan since the mountains have sucked out all of my color and I look like a super pale Mexican. Lately, dad and I (and sometimes zach) have been watching LSU baseball (religiously) and they made it into the College World Series Championship Series which is a huge deal!!!!! Now I am here to say that I love Tech baseball to no end but we suck and have also been taught since a very young age that LSU means life in the Bush family. (but seriously, VT is my way of life and my boys will come back better next year.) While being in Texas, I have also tried to hang out with as many friends as possible. When you are many states away, you really get a sense of who your real friends are and I’m glad to say that I still talk to the people I was close to senior year of high school. Whether we just drive around or go to buc-ee’s (or even eat 50 chicken nuggets), I know I will have so much fun and that these are people I will be friends with when I am 90. It’s tough trying to find a time to get together since everyone is constantly busy and the fact that everyone also wants to be around their families before we all go back to school, but we manage and it’s always fun to hear everyone’s college horror stories.
July will be a more eventful month for me and I am hoping to share my adventures when here when the time comes. If you are all still reading, thanks. I know that this has been a roller coaster ride of ups and downs but I am grateful you all are still reading and telling me that you enjoy reading about my times. Always feel free to comment or text me or whatever floats your boat!!
until next time, rebecca

almost home!!
15 MORE DAYS AHHHHHHH
While I am super excited that it is getting so close to me finally being able to go home (I haven’t been home since January :(), I am also stressing to the max because it is finals time :( this is the last week of classes until finals and I swear professors made everything due at the same time. It is awful but I mean whatever, my two finals are the two last days of finals, May 9th at 7:30 am!!!! And May 10 (my birthday) so those times are the worst for me but it’s okay I will still rock my tests. (but prayers are always appreciated)
Right now I am currently at the library and it is 10:40 at night and it is poppin’. I am making my gmo presentation that is based off of a paper I wrote and that is due wednesday and ugh it’s so hard to decide what to put on the slide and what to just say during the presentation. Yesterday someone did a presentation on poisonous plants and started talking about weed and the Bible and everyone just looked at him confused. The best part??? That boy is my friend’s roommate and my friend didn’t even know he did any work because apparently he just disappears for days. College is such an odd experience for some kids….
This weekend we had the spring game and tailgate but it was so muddy outside, we didn’t go. But good news, we won...then we went to some olympics thing but some girls were maced by some security guards so we helped them clean their eyes and then we left there, it was such a mess and honestly kinda scary. So we just went back to my friend’s apartment and watched movies. I tried bojangles for the first time and didn’t really like it, zaxbys is so much better. Also canes was mentioned by many people this week and there’s not one here because we’re not really the south and canes is all about the south but everyone knows about it??? But no one knows about bushs so that’s really sad, I’m all about the chicken places.
My roommate and I have to bunk our beds and I have this huge fear that her bed is going to fall and crush me while I’m sleeping. Also she is leaving before me so I have to clean the entire room by myself, so I’m a little mad about that especially since most of the mess is hers but whatever. I have to sweep and mop and take out the trash and do all this stuff because if one thing isn’t done, we will be fined. As if we don’t already pay enough to this school... but it is cool because I love this school.
I still have $103 on my meal plan for this semester and $99.50 rolled over from last semester so I’m swiping for people who don’t have money and it’s crazy how many people have like $3 left. Like I know my eating schedule is weird but do some of these people eat like 5 meals a day???? Or buy the most expensive food every single day??? I just don’t get it but whatever..my goal is to be using my roll over money by friday so fingers crossed!!!
I’m probably not going to post anymore blogs until I get home to my state!! It’s serious crunch time and I am writing papers and studying and also trying to make sure I am not anti-social. This friday I think I am going to the Dirty Dancing House and am going to go hiking!!! But I am not 100% sure if that is happening because finals start next week, ahhhhhh!!!!!
happy end of April :)

skippy peanut butter
this weather is so nice and it is spring and I am so happy!!!!!!!!
(ps I am also happy because I got TWO packages this week!!! That’s right, t w o. it’s been a pretty lit week)
It’s also been a pretty crazy week as I have had so much homework, but I am getting through it!!! I had a quiz today in Shakespeare (got a 110!!), I have three essays due (one due Thursday, one due Friday, and one Monday) and these essays are all apart of my final projects so they’re all a significant portion of my grade. So once I submit these, I should be slightly less stressed. And I have a Big Sean concert Thursday night!!!! Nikki and I are going and it shall be lit.
This past week I started watching 13 Reasons Why (I binge watched) and the show is sooooooooooooo good. 10/10 would recommend. It made me cry and Nikki just laughed at me as I cried, but it’s okay #roomiegoals Now I’m watching The Flash (makes me feel like a nerd) but it’s so good!! I’m only on episode 8 but it’s interesting so far. I am also done reading my book by W.E.B. DuBois and it was actually kind of sad. But I am really glad I read it as it points out a bunch of different relevant points on race relations. And we still refer to his position on race relations in many of my classes today!!! so cool. so neat.
let’s talk about how I have almost gotten through 40 days with no sweets and no caffeine!!!!! I wasn’t sure if I could do it but here I am, only a few days left and lots of sweets and coffee and tea ready for me to devour!!! I am very proud of myself and know that I can take a break from caffeine every now and then...but I probably won’t do that very often...I went to church Palm Sunday and I have never been able to make my own cross but that all changed this year!!! I was FINALLY able to make a cross and it stayed together and everything!!! Nikki hung it up so now our room is officially good.
This Sunday is not only Easter but it is also the 10 year anniversary of the tragic shooting that happened here at Tech, so there are lots of events happening this week. It’s a very emotional time here on campus as everyone remembers where they were when the shooting took place. I was only 8 years old when it happened but I can remember seeing all of the news reports and talking to my dad about it. As I have basically always been a Tech fan, this is a very important day. This is a day where we all commemorate the 32 who passed away that day, and this is also a day where everyone in the Virginia Tech community grows closer. It is sad that a tragedy always seems to gather everyone but in this case, we have a lot to learn about and I truly hope that this 10 year anniversary demonstrates how important it is to always show respect to our peers and everyone around us.
I know that this week is relatively short, but as I said above I have a ton of writing to do and not a whole lot of time to do it. Have a good week everyone!! And remember to think about us at Tech this Sunday as we honor our fallen members, and make sure to send prayers to everyone that was involved somehow on that day, April 16, 2007.

got all my girls in the car and everyone is here
I think I’m coming down with a cold :(
35 days until I see my momma and I head home and my 19th birthday!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!! I am so excited to go home and see everyone and eat everything and be with Zach and Gabby and just chill for a little while until I have to come back to school and get in the hang of things again.
Just a few more weeks until Easter comes and I can finally have some caffeine in my system and I can eat some ice cream!! I’m not quite sure what I’m doing Easter weekend (other than Mass) but I’m hoping to do something exciting. Or go somewhere. Or maybe caffeine will boost me up enough, I just want some caffeine!!!!
This week I went to two different events on campus and both were pretty big deals. Tuesday night, I went to an event called Dear World, and it’s a project where they take portraits of people and these people have words written on their skin that represent a part of their story. They came to Tech, took hundreds of portraits and listened to hundreds of stories, picked five people to share their story and I was able to go to the event where these five people shared their stories and it was amazing. Before my peers even shared their stories, the Dear World speaker shared the stories of three different groups of people he has been able to work with: the first was Stuart Scott’s family (which made me want to cry), the second was a group of survivors from the Boston Marathon Bombing, and the last was a group of kids that are living in a Syrian Refugee Camp in Jordan. These three stories were so special and got everyone ready to listen to our peers’ stories, which were also very special. Along with listening to their stories, we saw their portraits, and the hundreds of other portraits taken from students and faculty at Tech. It was amazing.
The other event I went to gave me goosebumps. Take Back the Night has been happening on my campus for 28 years now and last Thursday I was able to participate in it. It is a rally and a march that brings awareness to gender-based violence and was started because of the fear most women get when they walk outside at night. It’s a well known fact that women can’t walk home alone at night because of the the things that have happened to them, and I often have to ask a friend to walk back with me, even if I’m just walking back from the library. This event works to stop the violence and to take back the night. The rally was held inside and featured many speakers who were all very educated on what they were talking about. My favorite speaker, Joe Frazier, was from the Intercultural Engagement Center and spoke about how our labels should not define whether we help or not. He called out frats for having so many sexual assaults happen (we’ve had 9 reported just in the month of March, and 5 in just 11 days,) and by the end of his 3 minute speech everyone was on their feet applauding him. His speech was magnificent and I just wish everyone could hear it. After all the speakers, we heard stories from survivors. These survivors are my peers and they were brave enough to share their stories and it was so very emotional. After, we all marched around downtown Blacksburg and around campus, shouting chants and we had signs and no one cared that it was raining because we were all apart of something so special. Along with this, there is a clothes line project, which is where people who have been the victim of gender-based violence make t-shirts, these are all color coded based on the type of violence, and they are hung up on a clothesline in the middle of the drillfield for all to see. There are currently 500 shirts on the clothesline. This whole event really opened my eyes and changed my life. Next year I am hoping to be a volunteer for this event because it really means so much to me.
This past weekend I mainly spent with some new friends, and it was really fun. We just hung out at my friend’s apartment and talked and it was cool to be with new friends and just be so comfortable. Saturday we went to the girl’s lacrosse game to support my suitemates, and unfortunately they lost but I still got really into the game and I’ve never even watched lacrosse before!!! We lost in overtime too. It was crazy. Sunday I spent the day doing the rest of my homework I didn’t finish Friday and started a new book! It’s for my political theory class and it’s by W.E.B. Du Bois, and I am so excited to continue to read it. The past books we’ve read, other than the Karl Marx book, have been pretty boring since they’re so old, but Du Bois is relatively recent and played a role in developing the 20th century black protest here in America and that is so cool to read about!!!! Some of his tactics and protests are still used today!! Ugh I love this stuff. I also went to mass Sunday night and it always feels good to hear a good homily from the priest.
Monday was crazy hectic, I had so much to turn in AND it was my friend’s 22nd birthday!!!!! I wore a shirt with my roommate’s face on it and I also took an unexpected 4 hour nap. I watched the NCAA Championship with the boys and my bracket won with 97%!!!!!!!! go meeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!Now it’s Tuesday and I did my laundry and ate a salad and it’s been good because it’s 70 degrees outside. I have class in an hour and a half and then I am going to take a nap. have a good day y’all!!

virginia beach
So this past weekend, as the title suggests, I went to Virginia Beach!!!!
but let’s first start with my boring week that happened before the weekend.
Wednesday I read “The Communist Manifesto” for political theory and we are currently reading all about Karl Marx (who is actually kinda cool) and then I had a workshop in my english class, so I was there for like 10 minutes. And astronomy was cool, we are learning about black holes and are going to watch Interstellar next week for extra credit!!! So that’s pretty lit. In Shakespeare we just read Hamlet as we have been for the past couple of weeks. And don’t get me wrong, I love Hamlet, but I’ve already read it like 100 times and my professor is always asking questions that she doesn’t even want answers to and it’s just slow and annoying.
Thursday I went to the grocery store, Kroger, and tried to be as quick as possible, which was surprisingly easy...I got a bunch of healthy snacks!! I only had one class and that was comparative government and politics and it was pretty uneventful. The best part was when all the cadets thought they were slick trying to leave without the professor noticing (they all had a cadet meeting and had to be there before our class was over) On Thursday I also had large group and we got a new leader to the club and we all got to meet him, so that was pretty cool. After that we went to cookout and I got cheese fries and they weren’t great :(
Friday was pretty boring too. I went to class and we got out early in all of them. I had a fieldwork essay due, so I finished that and did some other homework before I left for Virginia Beach. I met up with my friend who interviewed me for Humans of IV, and that was interesting. It was also warm Friday so that was great!!!! The rest of my night was spent in a car with Uncle Jerry and the twins. We got to Virginia Beach at around 1??? (I was so tired)
Saturday morning I had breakfast with Brooklyn and Jerry and we played board games (which I am apparently not very good at) and then we met up with the rest of the family. First we went to top golf and I won!!!!! Last time I was with them I won with a score of 7...this time I won with a score of 52. so go me!!! Then we went to the beach and it was so nice outside and there were lots of pups and we watched a guy try to skimboard and fail, so that was funny. Then we went to pungo pizza and had garlic knots (my favorite!!!!!!) and pizza. After that it was just the girls and I and we played family feud and snapchatted all my friends from tech and the twins were cracking me up. They’re nuts.
Sunday: was spent in a car coming back to tech, we played car games and it was actually kinda nice. I got back around 2:30, unpacked and went to go to my friend’s dorm to tell her happy birthday. ate dinner with my friends and then came back to the dorm and did some homework I didn’t have time to finish.
Monday I had political theory and one of the TAs did a presentation on modern day communism and how it affects the Black Lives Matter movement, it was actually very interesting. Then I was in english for 15 minutes (what’s new) and had fruit for lunch. Astronomy was pretty boring as we just went over everything that was said on Friday. And in Shakespeare we just continued to read Hamlet and no one wanted to read so that was messy. Then I went to dinner with some friends and took a shower and did some homework. I stayed up later than I wanted because Nikki kept the room light on to do work and it was super bright so I couldn’t fall asleep.
Tuesday: am currently doing laundry (as I do every Tuesday) and am eating some pretzels. it’s a good life. It’s currently raining outside so it’s super humid and gross but that’s okay because I don’t have to leave my building until 1:30 to make it to class.
have a good week, y’all :)

essays on essays on essays
hello all,
a little update on weather: it was 14 degrees last week and today it is 65. Welcome to Blacksburg!!!!! I was literally bundled completely and only had a small portion of my face visible and today I am wearing shorts and sandals, like what even.
nothing really interesting has happened since I last posted. I celebrated a friend’s birthday on Friday, which was fun. There was a group of nine of us and we all went out to dinner and then 8 of us went to go see the new Beauty and the Beast, which was really good!!! 10/10 would recommend. Every Sunday I meet up with one of my other friends to catch up and she tells me all of her boy problems and I just eat edamame (which sounds really good right now). I’m currently doing laundry and then after that is done and after I finish writing this, I have to finish an essay that is due Friday. And then when I finish that, I have to write an essay that is due Monday. And those two essays are for the same class!!!!!
I wish I was outside but no I am inside trying to get everything done for this week. I have an inner tube water polo game tonight and it’s finals so we have to win in order to get the coveted intramural championship shirt. I also have to select my classes for fall 2017 and hope that I actually get them (my friend only got 1 of hers)...but it looks like I am taking a whole lot of political science and english classes again. I also have to read the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx by Friday, and I am surprised with how much I actually like Karl Marx, he is just like a crazy uncle. OH and I have astronomy homework :(
my roommate is taking a nap (as always) so I have to be super quiet but I’m trying to clean the room bit by bit as I finish assignments. Her side of the room is atrocious and she is trying to have her friends come over this weekend!!!! (I feel like such a mom) but it’s not cute that her side is really gross and my side is actually clean...
super short post this week but I’ve literally done nothing this past week so there’s not much to talk about...hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather!!!!
