Savannah Keenan, 17, South East London
3rd time on The Unicorn Jam
Skateboarding for 4 years
Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t a skateboarder?
A: If I wasn’t a skateboarder I wouldn’t have much else to do. I’d probably just be at home on Facebook and Instagram, not doing much else. That’s what’s giving me an opportunity to go out every day and actually do something with my life.
Q: What inspired you to skate?
A: Erm… when I was younger I used to watch The Life of Ryan Sheckler on TV. I loved it. Gosh, I must have been about 6.
Q: Do you think there’s a big difference in getting into skating between girls and boys?
A: Yeah, of course there’s a great difference! With a boy, if he enters the skatepark people won’t look twice but with a girl, they’ll be like shocked, they might give you weird looks or they might be like super hyped. Everyone kind of reacts different to it.
Q: How does skating affect your personality?
A: The thing is I don’t really know… I think it made me a lot more confident but it’s hard to tell to be honest.
Q: How do you think skateboarding scene will progress in 10 years from now? Is it becoming more mainstream or the opposite?
A: I think that right now it’s as mainstream as it gonna really get. You can see in like so many music videos and everyone is kind of into it… It might change and become underground again when people who don’t take it seriously will forget about it.
Q: Do you think more girls will go into skating?
A: Way more girls! These past couple of years you can see a huge boom in an amount of girls skating. So yeah, probably it’s gonna become less awkward for girls to walk in to the park and people will find it more common.

Une bonne année 2016, qu’elle soit remplie d’Amour et de Paix. Merci 2015 ~ thankful to this very last day. Getting married to my Love, having the chance to focus entirely on my artistic practice and projects, a good health, moving from Berlin to London as we hoped, being able to visit my family in France as often as wished, gardening with my father, drinking tea every morning for weeks with my grand mother, discovering LA, spending time with friends and family, meeting so many beautiful souls has made this year unique. Sending you my Love & all the best for 2016. Analog Diary, le Printemps à Los Angeles, Spring 2015
