With Saint Patrick's Day right around the corner I figured I'd post this. So many people have turned this holiday into a day of drinking. which actually doesn't even begin to touch the culture and it's just a stereotype. St Patrick's Day has nothing to do with drinking or wearing the color green . It is a religious day for family and service. it's A Day to remember Saint Patrick faith! In fact St Patrick wasn't even Irish himself and didn't wear the color green he was from Wales. And the green three leaf clover wasn't just a sign for good luck. St Patrick's actually use the shamrock to explain the trinity of the father of the son and the holy Spirit to Irish natives. On this holiday this could be a big trigger for some. I know in early sobriety it was for me . However in the past few years I learned better ways of celebrating this holiday. And here's a list for those who may be having a hard time around this day!!
Go see a parade. Better yet join it
Go to church
cook a traditional Irish dinner
Run a St Patty's Day Marathon
listen to Irish music and learn an Irish dance
Have a leprechaun Green party and play some fun games. Hang with sober friends/family. And when completely in doubt there are local fellowships that hold 24-hour meetings or fun events for this holiday for friends and family who are having a hard time or just don't want to be alone . Sadly excessive drinking has become so permanently linked to this celebration in society nowadays. And trust me years ago I believed that's what this holiday was about to .. but it is so much more. I challenge anyone on this day to just take 15 minutes out of their time . To research the true meaning of this holiday and how it was celebrated years ago ! I wish everyone a very happy n sober Saint Patrick's Day !!
