Final outcome for this project
This is my final outcome for this project I am extremely pleased with this outcome it looks very familiar to my final design drawing and I did follow a lot of it especially the dress and the design on the dress. What I like about this dress is all of the details I did for the print of the dress done by the procion dye the brush strokes were fine and I think it looked great then the foil and the embroidery on the dress also emphasised it too. But one thing I think I can improve is the jellyfish when I had sewed it together some parts of the jellyfish didn’t match up and it's very obvious when you look at it. One thing I learnt from this project and making this dress is a lot as I had never sewn a dress before in the past I had learned the pattern, some new technique like the disperse dye, but also learning how to sew on an invisible zip and to do the facing on the dress, I did indeed learn a lot of new stuff.
One thing I would take away from this project to the next one is the techniques and skills I had learnt with all of the samples I had done I would like to take them away and create some more samples with the same technique for my next project. The cape also looked amazing, it followed the concept of movement because of the see-through lightweight cape when you move it flows and shows the movements of the jellyfish which is what I wanted. So when I put them both together it looked extremely nice and they both match very well together, but this dress was definitely inspired by Iris Van Herpen too, because of the clear capes she has done on some of her garments I had taken the same concept of the clear cape and then made it my own version for the jellyfish, Overall this was a very good project I was able to explore many parts of the sea life and I really love how my final outcome turned out.

Final Outcome - Cape
This is the final outcome of my cape, I think its successful because it is how I wanted it to turn out, it looks very beautiful with all the gems inside glistening and the silver thread tied with it really goes well, it has the form of the jellyfish which is what I wanted and this cape also shows movement because when you move around with this cape the see-through PVC isn't too heavy to stand still but it will go with the flow and the movement following how a jellyfish move. Overall I am super happy with how the cape turned out it will go over the person's shoulder, although I did change it from the initial final design drawing I did more sample and changed it to this which I prefer a lot more hence I stuck with it.

Final Outcome - Dress
Overall I am very happy how this dress turned out, it followed my final drawing with the style of the dress with it being a pencil skirt and that singular jellyfish. The outcome looks very professional with the invisible zipper too, what I learnt from this is all of the techniques I had done to make this dress as I had never sewn an invisible zipper on a dress before not have I done a facing for a dress either, I had learnt a lot of new stuff making this dress and samples. I really love that I had combined different techniques too. like the print and the embroidery but one thing I can improve is the embroidery of the tentacles some of it has scrunched up which affected the length of the dress and it became a bit short so next time I think I need to sew it flat and use an embroidery hoop to keep it flat while I am embroidering. But overall I am very happy about this outcome.

Making of the dress
Then after sewing on the decoration of the dress, it is time to close off this dress, I had made a strap which goes at the top of the dress, then I had done the facing which will be at the top of the dress, and then the bottom of the dress was closed off by an overlocked which cut and sealed the bottom so it won't fray. Then in order to take this dress on and off, I had added an invisible zipper to the back. I am very happy with the outcome the finishing also made the dress look very professional with it looking neat with the way I had sewn it all together I think the outcome is very successful and what I had in mind. I really like it because it looks very professional with the finishing. My next step would be to finally take a photograph of my final product because I had finished my dress.

Making of the cape
So the first thing I did was to use my pattern and then on the PVC I had cut out my cape and then sewn the left and right so that it made the full 360 degrees cape so it goes around the person and goes through the head, The just like my sample I had added little gems and secured it with an elastic then using the silver thread I had tied it so that each one was like that with each other. I really like this idea I think it looks super pretty like a chandelier and with the gems reflecting too, the shape is also like a jellyfish head which will sit over the person's shoulder over the dress, I am super happy and this turned out to be successful.

Making of the dress
After sewing the dress all together I can finally add the embroidery, I had used some of the polyester silk and pilled the threads going vertical to create the strips to look feathery to make if part of the tentacles of where the jellyfish have and then I appliqued it on, then for the main tentacles on the dress I had used the Bernina machine and then using the zig-zag stitch I had stitched on the tentacles to make it stand out more, it has a bit of volume so when you do see it you can see it has white tentacles, I really like the colour scheme and I think the white really works well with the blue. What I like about this is that I had combined the use of two technique of embroidery and print, but one thing that I can improve on is the applique, although I did pull some threads out from the strip pieces it started to fray and on some parts it started to fray and it was hard to get it back to normal but I had tried my best to applique it on so it won't fall apart. Overall this was some successful embroidery on the dress. My next step would be to make the cape for my dress.

Making of the dress
After printing my dress, I had to go to an industrial machine and then sew the dress together, I had used pins to pin it in place and then following the 10mm seam allowance I had sewn the dress together so that it started to form into the dress, this part was successful because it then formed the structure of the dress better and then it started to look more like a dress. But one problem is that when I sewed the dress together some of the print didn’t match up when it got sewn together some were too high and the shapes and edges didn’t match up, it wasn’t a big problem but maybe that is something I can look out for next time. But I am very happy and my next step would add the embroidery to this dress.

Making of the dress
Now I can finally start making my dress so the first thing I did was to buy one metre of the polyester silk and then I had used my previous pattern paper and cut out the pattern of the dress. Then I was ready to print on it just like my previous sample this time I had done one large jellyfish on my dress which I had printed with different shades of blue and then on the paper, I used a heat press and pressed the design on the synthetic fibre which left this disperse print. The I had used foil adhesive and a brush to paint on my adhesive on the dress, I waited for it to fully dry before adding the foil and then peeling it off to reveal this beautiful design, I found this part of the dress successful I am very happy with the print outcome and I really like the detail. But one problem I faced was that the lighter colours like the sky blue didn’t appear on the fabric I think because it was too light I did not add enough of the procion powder to my water so it wasn't a strong enough colour. I am very happy with this outcome so my next step would be to finally sew this dress together.

Dress Print sample
So before I actually make my dress I wanted to do one last sample onto the actual fabric on what I will be printed and made my dress out of which is polyester silk. I had done a mini version just to test if the disperse dye worked well on this fabric and it did so I had decided to a much larger version on a piece of dress panel sample to see if it would work and it did, I really like the colour outcome and the shape and the lines I had created with the brush strokes from the paper I had printed it on from the heat press. Then I had used some foil adhesive and then painted it onto the dress and waited for it to dry then using the foil I had used a heat press to press the foil and adhesive together and when it cooled down I lifted the foil and it revealed the beautiful silver foil onto the dress to add more depth and detail onto my dress, I think the silver really enhances the blue on the dress. But one thing I think can be improved is that when I painted on the adhesive some of it was dried so some of the silver foil was left patchy on this sample so I would try to coat the adhesive more evenly next time. Overall this is a very successful outcome and I am very happy with this outcome, my next step would be to finally start making my final outcome which would be the dress and the cape.

Cape Sample
I said earlier in one of my previous blog posts that I would develop and look at more capes so that is what I did. In this page I showed me creating a lot of different samples the first one with just a normal cape and then I had added elastic at the bottom so that it had created a puffy shape which represents the jellyfish head I think it works really well but I don’t think that is enough as the PVC would just be plain I would like to add some stuff to the cape to make it look more interesting and more stuff to look at. So then I had played around with the PVC and then I started to get little gems, marbles, ribbons, elastics and string and started to trap them in the PVC and tie it up with an elastic to create some decoration, I really like the ribbon and the gems but I think out of all of them I think trapping the clear gem and then adding the silver thread is by far my favourite technique, it looks very tranquil and it looks very clear. I think I would be doing that for my final cape and doing it all around the cape for my final piece and then I started to pin my small sample pieces onto the mannequin to see how it would look like with the dress. I really like this technique so overall it was successful because now I know what I want on my cape.

Final Drawing Outcome
After all of my samples, I had chosen and drew out my final drawing of how I want my final outcome to look like. The bottom two images are sketches I had done prior to my final drawing but to test how I want to jellyfish composition and to look like and I had chosen the second image because I prefer it to be looking up towards it so you can see the opening on the jellyfish and that is where I can add the tentacles. So how my final outcome would look like is that there would be a pencil dress with one large jellyfish going all across and I think from my samples I would be doing it with a disperse dye for the jellyfish on some polyester satin. Then my cape would be made out of PVC. I really like this overall design because it shows a clear journey of my design from my samples and until now of the clear stages on how I got this final design with the large jellyfish. So my next step would be to continue to do more samples and a live size of how I want my jellyfish outcome to look like.
