“Hey,” Luke breathed out as he held his phone up to his ear, slowly pacing back and forth as he stared at his reflection in the mirror. 

“Hi,” you softly replied, your legs swinging back and forth as you sat on the airport bench.  “What’s up?”

There were a few seconds of silence before Luke spoke up again, a sigh leaving his parted lips as he ran a hand through his messy hair. “Our plane got delayed.” You pursed your lips as your eyelids fluttered close, the exhaustion taking over your body as tears started to brim in your eyes. “Baby? You still there?”

“Yeah,” you answered, trying to keep your voice from breaking while sliding the sleeves of Luke’s sweatshirt over your hands. 

“Just, um,” he let out a deep breath, pinching his noise as he blankly stared at the bloodshot color of his eyes. “Just go to bed and I’ll see you tomorrow, yeah?”

“Okay,” you rushed out, ending the phone call right before a sob escaped from your throat, your head falling into your hands as your body started to shake. You picked up your bag once you had calmed down, wiping your eyes dry as you walked out of the airport terminal and back towards your car. Your phone lit up with a text from Luke, immediately followed by a notification from the countdown app you had set up months ago. You felt your heart sink in your chest as you locked your phone, shoving it into your pocket as you speed walked towards your car.
