If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice dumbass. A large subset of the young demographic voting won’t lead to the end goal you’re implying, it’ll lead to a complete alt-right takeover. The only reason we even have a possibility of an ethical death sentence, being Biden in this analogy, is because we fucking voted. Am I disillusioned with the USA’s pathetic excuse for a “left” wing? Posts like these only hurt everyone involved/being discussed. You can be as embarrassed as you’d like about your Markiplier uquizes you did but you have to remember that A) some people make light of things that were traumatic to them; B) the alt-right movement targets a hyperspecific demographic of people who are/were AMAB; C) tumblr got a massive insurgence of people from reddit recently (one of the alt-right hubs of the internet in a way). These experiences were not uncommon to see on reddit. Part of finding that happy middle is allowing people to openly talk about how they messed up in the past. Another part of finding this happy middle is lending the trust to other people that they already feel bad about their past without it having to be explicitly stated. You reinforcing that they should feel bad about their will only cause it to spiral into the “pure shame” you previously discouraged. As much as you don’t want to believe it not everybody got lucky enough to be into let’s players most of their teens. Especially if you were into computers and retro tech youtube/forums as a teen, it got disgustingly hard to avoid alt-right propaganda. So much so that I have a hard time enjoying any kind of content pertaining to retro computing if I don’t see an immediate indication of something like pronouns knowing very well there’s a 75:25 chance they’re a complete moral dumpsterfire.

Honestly so much of the bi lesbian and the "keep men out of lesbian spaces" queer discourse is rooted in terf logic it's depressing. The belief that inviting nonbinary people to women's events is calling nonbinary "women-lite" is also depressingly rooted in the gender binary.

I think regardless of the moral stance of ao3, 1) you're stupid for thinking 100 note posts on tumblr will get more traction than a donation sticky at the top of a website with that level of consistent traffic/you're stupid if you think everyone who uses ao3 uses tumblr and vice versa; 2) there is an EXTREME fundamental [potentially deliberate] misunderstanding going on here of the costs of hosting a website of that size and traffic scale, not even including legal fees or employee wages. I don't doubt they use every single dollar regardless of how much they hit over their goal, and I think regardless of whether or not you think they're a morally good website you need to leave your fucking rock and pay attention to how much these kinds of things cost.

I also think anyone who has any sort of moral argument against ao3 is kind of an idiot considering ao3 is LIGHTYEARS better than every single option there was before for publishing fan fiction: every other fan fiction website (that I've used) has all the same problems I see people bitching about with ao3 + pretty much any other alternative (that I used to use) had a MAJOR problem with not being able to publish from specific works. And I know you're probably already typing "but you can just not do fanfiction this is a modern problem" this is in fact not a modern problem and many pieces of integral classic literature are, for all intents and purposes, just fanfiction before the term existed. Fanfiction has been around as long as works of writing have, it's only the terminology for it that's a modern thing

there's honestly no way for me to say "yes i agree that white people cannot escape the gender binary they created for themselves however i do believe neurodivergent white queer people and neurotypical white queer people also experience being non-binary in very different ways due to processing social constructs entirely differently" without it seeming like either A) i'm racist, or B) i'm trying to distract/detract from the point at hand :/ ik lots of white queer nonbinary nd people do that and i just don't want to be one of Those People at the end of the day. i want to let qpoc talk and share their thoughts and experiences. i also hope someday the queer community can have deeper and less...well...binary (in terms of experiences) discussions about how systemic racism and neurodivergency both can affect one's identification with the gender binary in different ways while both still sharing the same single trait of not identifying with said binary

Not to be That Guy but the people who say South Park is 100% "problematic" have no self awareness and actually physically pain me. The whole point of the show is to be an accurate representation of small town shitty white ass USA. If people on this godforsaken website had the ability to get rid of their Christian GOP puritanical brainrot and actually did a critical analysis of the show, they'd find the show is really no worse than your average 2,000 population, 98.5% white, American town is.

the post about "it's morally and ethically wrong to pirate maus" is one of the most bizarrely pro-capitalistic and pro-history erasure takes i've seen on tumblr. yes, it's better that 1 person get money than thousands of people can have a knowledge of the holocaust beyond the boy in the striped pajamas 🙄 they'd rather tons and tons of people have a white washed nazi-sympathizing fictional story of the holocaust be their definitive learning of the event and the author get the price of one copy of the book than for an accurate telling of the holocaust to be widespreadly known. if he cared more about making money than having an accurate historical recollection of the holocaust out there, there are way better ways he could be earning money if that was his goal

yall have to realize also that there are areas where it would be expensive to get a copy mailed to you, libraries both online and offline are inaccessible, and archive(.)org isn't either. America, the UK, the EU, and Australia/NZ aren't the only countries in the world. you're telling me you want all those people not have access to historically accurate information on the holocaust because they have no way to legally access it?

i genuinely do not understand why people are upset about people donating to ao3. "it doesn't cost that much money to host a website" no but do you know how much money it costs to store that much data? if it's to the point where it is a common meme that authors are always putting out 10k+ word fics, you have to imagine how much storage all of these fics must hold. and all those one shots and one chapter unfinished works add up. plus there's also legal fees in fighting copyright, it can't be cheap to have a lawyer good enough to justify that website's existence to big corps
