How to clean RO membrane at home

After using the water purifier for a period of time, contaminants in the RO membrane will accumulate. At this time, the reverse osmosis membrane needs to be cleaned. The cleaning frequency of the RO membrane is directly related to water quality. In some places, water hardness is too high. In other words, the water salts are too high, or there are too many metal ions such as calcium and magnesium in the water. These ions are easy to deposit on the surface of the RO membrane and form a blockage. Or the microbial content in the water is too high, organic mucosa will form on the RO membrane, and clogging will also occur. Ordinary cleaning can be directed backflush the RO membrane If you want to clean more thoroughly, you need to use a cleaning agent. There are two types of cleaning agents, one is for cleaning calcium and magnesium ions, this is for use in places with excessive water quality, and the other is for cleaning organic substances. It can be prepared by yourself, or you can go to Amazon to buy ready-made. To clean calcium and magnesium ions, you can use citric acid or hydrochloric acid, citric acid is prepared into a solution of about 2%, (hydrochloric acid is adjusted to 0.2%) PH value is maintained at about 2 ~ 3, remember to use a PH test paper to test the PH value before use. If cleaning organic matter, use 0.1% sodium hydroxide plus 0.025% sodium dodecyl sulfonate, mix with purified water and adjust the PH value to about 11-12. How to change RO membrane？

How to replace the RO membrane after having the membrane?

Step 1 Disconnect the power supply, close the water inlet electroplating ball valve, and wait for about ten minutes. (Depressurize the system)

Step 2 Find the position of the housing where the RO membrane in, remove the blue C-ring, pull out the pipe, open the lid of the membrane housing with a wrench;

Step 3 Hold the reverse osmosis membrane housing with the left hand, And rotate the reverse osmosis membrane with pliers in the right hand, and then pull it out；

Step 4 Unpack the new RO membrane and take it out. Insert the newly reverse osmosis membrane into the membrane housing, the two small black "O" rings are inside (refer to the picture for the installation direction). The membrane is still installed in a rotary manner until one end is pushed into the membrane housing.

Step 5 Cover the lid and tighten with a wrench.  Insert the tube and install the blue C-ring and then open the electroplating ball valve.

Step 6 Let the pure water machine run for more than two hours to make the system enter the normal water production state, and then connect the water pipe to the pressure barrel ball valve and open the pressure barrel ball valve. The whole process is now complete. Read the full article

RO MEMBRANE  is an important element in a water purifier, therefore, it is very necessary that you know about when should I replace an RO membrane. Usually, the life of an HID RO membrane is around 1-2 years, the pre-filters and post-filters about 3-12 months, but it may vary according to the level of contaminants in the water and daily consumption. You can refer to the document: How often replace reverse osmosis membrane? So how to check the RO membrane need to change? The best way is to buy a TDS meter digital to check the TDS level  ( TDS = Total Dissolved Solids ) of purified water. The smaller the TDS level, the less the total dissolved solids in water. TDS level grade division: 1. TDS level (PPM): 0 ~ 9, water quality: purified water 2. TDS level (PPM): 10 ～ 60, water quality: mountain spring water, mineralized water 3. TDS level (PPM): 60 ～ 100, water quality: treated water 4. TDS level (PPM): 100 ～ 300, water quality: tap water 5. TDS level (PPM): above 300, water quality: polluted water If the TDS level is greater than 50ppm, you can consider replacing the RO membrane. If there is no TDS meter digital, you can consider replacing the reverse osmosis membrane when the following phenomena occur: 1. The water produced by the water purifier becomes smaller. Under the same conditions (such as the same water pressure and water temperature), the water purifier makes less water. It is very likely that the filter element is blocked. If the water purifier filter element is close to its service life, then the water purifier needs to be replaced with a new filter element. 2.  RO reverse osmosis water purifier makes the water too fast. The phenomenon that the water output of the water purifier is obviously accelerated. This situation is generally caused by the damage of the RO membrane. At this time, we must replace the new RO membrane, otherwise, the water purifier will completely lose the filtering function. 3. The outlet of the water purifier has a poor taste. This is because the impurities and bacteria filtered by the filter element of the water purifier are too much, and the accumulation time at the filter element is too long, causing secondary pollution to the tap water. This is also telling us that the filter element needs to be replaced. 4.  The water purifier estimates that it has reached 80% of the service life of the filter element according to time. The service life of the filter element is the ideal period of use of the water purifier filter element. We all know that there is a gap between ideal and reality. In fact, the community with serious water pollution cannot use the filter element for such a long time. If the water quality is good, it is not recommended to wait until the filter element expires. We generally replace the filter element when it reaches about 80% of its ideal life. We can judge whether to replace the water purifier filter element through the above four methods or the TDS level. How often replace reverse osmosis membrane?

Do you know how dirty the RO membrane has not been replaced in a long time? The reverse osmosis water purifiers usually used in homes have five filters, RO membrane is the most exquisite and expensive filter element among them. If you can taste the chlorine and the flow rate of the water purifier becomes very small, which cannot meet our daily water usage,  you can determine that the RO membrane of your water purifier needs to be replaced.
