talking here again because I remembered this is the account for when I want to talk about destiny without bothering people
it's been said plenty of times now but it only just occurred to me what the real problem with the SOTG was - with them just saying "we know new crucible maps are by far the #1 pvp ask, but they take up valuable resources and we're not going to say anything about future plans," that doesn't just reflect how they view pvp but community feedback more widely
what it essentially says, in a wider sense, is "we're willing to acknowledge the biggest piece of community feedback, but we're not willing to actually put the resources in to address it"
if you consider how pvp is much harder to monetize than PVE stuff, that very quickly becomes a message of "we don't actually care what you want for the game if the fix isn't essential or noticeably profitable"
but it's especially weird to me because like. 1: they very clearly are willing to put resources into pvp generally, and 2: they clearly do put effort into things that might not be directly profitable on their own - there are still constantly pvp-focused weapons & weapon perks being made, and I don't see how making strike medals a thing makes them more profitable or encourages people to buy more content
but, obviously, that's not a juxtaposition they make in the post, & it's not explained why maps specifically are too much of an ask - like of course this wasn't going to go over well
personally, I dunno, it's just depressing and confusing - it doesn't give me hope for the future of the game, but I also don't understand the decision to begin with. I don't think they'll announce anything regarding PVP maps in the showcase, since if they were, it'd be really weird to have that paragraph about maps taking up resources to begin with and not talk about future map plans at all. If you want my take, I'd say at least 2 new maps every year would be good as a baseline, and dropping reprised/additional maps as more of a surprise.

ayuhhhh looking back on old witch queen trailers & the trailer team did such a good job with those (outside of like. showing too much)
the lightfall reveal trailer really didn't hit the same for a lot of reasons tbh (though I get they were going for different things obv) but the environment trailer was pretty good (from the little I am willing to skim watch over it to not engrain it too heavily in my skull) - I especially loved the last two shots of the WQ reveal trailer since they just flow into each other & integrate the title slide so well (+ the music swell is so great)
WQ's trailers as a whole just did such a good job of conveying the whole mystery setting while also keeping a good amount of the gameplay in it - lightfall is more aesthetically just bombastic and futuristic and while there's definitely some of that it doesn't feel like as strong of theming
though I will say the WQ launch trailer was also one of the best to come out from that cycle & the exotic gear trailers aren't really the most interesting so maybe I'm just coming off of a bad starting point for thinking about all of this
actually there was one really good shot in the environment trailer - the whole fuckin tormentor grab into the hunter falling through the different areas was just cool I'm a fan
