AlDub: A Beautiful Accident

In 5 months who would’ve thought that AlDub would be where they are now. Numerous endorsements, magazine covers, breaking internet records, getting recognized globally, a movie and a huge fanbase. Who would’ve thought?

Who would’ve thought that we would witness two different persons evolve into who there are now. Who would’ve thought that they would be each other’s reasons to fully come out of their shells.Who would’ve thought that we would see this side of Alden. This side we never imagined he possesses. The reserved Alden we knew before, who would’ve thought that he has a goofy side. Who would’ve thought that uploading videos out of boredom on Facebook would make Maine an overnight sensation? Who would’ve thought that a shy girl wanted to be on TV and has always dreamed of having her own billboard? Who would’ve thought destiny would work 5 years after meeting at Candy Fair. And the list goes on and on...

Words aren’t enough how thankful I am for AlDub. They proved not what ifs but who would’ve thoughts. Because life shouldn’t be made of what ifs, life should be just going further and further and at one point asking yourself who would’ve thought that I would be at this beautiful point in my life?

I am still in awe of whatever is happening to Alden and Maine right now and I wish that they would receive more blessings and happiness.

AlDub is something no one saw coming, an accident that changed our lives forever.

And who would’ve thought that an accident can be this beautiful.

The AlDub Magic

I am born to be a fangirl - a professional one as I would classify my level of fangirling. People who know me in real life know how I would get out of my way just to line up for concert tickets of my favorite foreign artists having tour stops in the Philippines. I am as well a fan of different Filipino love teams and shows but I act chill and low key when it comes to them. It’s very rare as well for me to watch shows on GMA since ever since I was young, aside from the different cartoon and movie channels, our household would always be glued on ABS-CBN. We were solid Kapamilyas. But there came a point where I’ve become a fan of Tween Hearts of GMA since ABS-CBN didn’t have evolving “tween” stars back then. *And yes, that shy boy with deep captivating dimples caught my heart.* But ABS-CBN launched a remake of Mara Clara with Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes which made me go back to being a solid Kapamilya. Then KathNiel went into the picture followed by many other young Kapamilya love teams that I’ve been a fan of. That made me even more glued to ABS-CBN.

Then AlDub happened.

So how did I become so hooked to this phenomenon? I actually am not sure how. All I can remember was seeing people from my twitter talking about AlDub. I still didn’t bother searching for what AlDub really is. But that day, their first weeksary on the bus on the way home, I witnessed something new, entertaining and so so feel good. Adding to it was the charm of Alden Richards which my 16 year old self would be so  happy watching him on TV again. I didn’t know who Yaya Dub was then. But I can remember my dad telling me that there was a new girl on Eat Bulaga who was famous for her dubsmash videos, Maine was the masungit yaya then. My dad even told me that she graduated from CSB and had her OJT in New York. And I was like “Bakit nag Eat Bulaga lang siya?”

But the AlDub fever really  got into me. I immediately started watching from Day 1. I must say that was pure magic. Yaya Dub which no one can make her smile suddenly did because of a certain person.

So what makes AlDub different from other love teams on TV? It was accidental. Making a list would take forever. But whenever I watch Kalyeserye (props to JoWaPao for their huge share on the show! Mad respect for these three! As well as to all the people behind the show, thank you!) I can feel like I belong and it feels like family. And how they come up with the show is amusing.

What we are seeing everyday on Kalyeserye is pure magic. Yes, there are scripts, preparations, live coaching, an interesting story line, comedic adlibs, fun, sabaw moments, kilig, unexpected moments… but behind all that there’s more. It all happened spontaneously.

We aren’t only seeing a show of two people fighting for love and getting through the hindrances that come their way. What we are seeing and learning from this show is the value of family, acceptance, sacrifice, friendship and proper timing.

We are indeed lucky to witness such phenomenon. Even luckier to witness a blossoming friendship between Alden and Maine. We can see how thankful they are for each other. We can see it in their eyes and ways. How Alden would cry for all the world to see how grateful he is for Maine. And how that hug from Sa Tamang Panahon was so sincere that millions of people tuning in cried along with them. God Gave Me you isn’t just a song. It is their story. God in His right timing put Alden and Maine in each other’s lives for a purpose. They were both waiting for something, and I must say that maybe this is it.

We aren’t only witnessing a love team on TV, we are witnessing real magic, that is AlDub.
