Heywood Picks: June 7, 2018
This weekend, the annual Republic of Texas Biker Rally rolls into Austin with lots of activities held at the Travis County Expo Center, including musical headliners ZZ Top! Single-day and multi-day passes are still available here.
One of our favorite events is the Friday-night biker parade that motors through our East Austin neighborhood and into downtown, ending at the Capitol building for a rally and all-night biker party. Grab a seat along the parade route for some fun and free entertainment!
Even if a biker rally is not your scene, there’s plenty to do in Austin this weekend.
Thursday, get your exercise on a Moonlight Margarita Run while supporting Austin’s incredible Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail. Starting at Seaholm Power Plant, this 5k supports the Trail Foundation and ends with a Tex-Mex Fiesta featuring dinner and margaritas, of course, by Maudie’s Tex Mex! The fun starts at 8pm. Registration is $45 to $120 and can be done here.
Friday, catch the R.O.T. Rally parade and then head over to 3Ten ACL Live at 8pm to pay tribute to His Purple Majesty, Prince, on what would have been his 60th Birthday. Local Austin favorites AJ Vallejo’s Perfect Nation and Dead Love Club will be performing Purple Rain in its entirety, plus all the hits! Tickets are available here and are $10-$15.
Saturday, the Austin360 Amphitheater welcomes Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne. Alt-country chanteuse Neko Case opens. Doors open at 6:30pm and the show is at 7:30pm. Tickets are available here and are $39.50-$89.50.
Sunday, walk just down the block to our Eastside neighbors, Stay Gold, for Brass Sabbath from 8:30 to 11:30pm with Austin’s 8-piece brass band Interrobang (pictured). There’s no better way to celebrate a Sunday than with a drink and some lively free music.
Next weekend is Father’s Day and what better way to say thanks to Dad than with a stay at the Heywood! We still have a few rooms available here, or get him a gift card so he can celebrate whenever he wants!

Heywood Picks: May 31, 2018
June’s here and there’s tons of fun to be had in Austin! Read on for a few of our Heywood concierge team’s favorite picks!
Thursday, it’s the one of longest running free concert series in Austin, Unplugged at the Grove, sponsored by radio station KGSR. This week, catch local band Los Coast’s psychedelic soul under the oaks that give Shady Grove Restaurant its name. Music starts at 8pm, but get there early to grab a great spot and enjoy the drink specials.
Friday, head to Beerland for ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, another local band that has been treating Austinites to raucous, energetic live shows since the late ’90’s. Doors at 6pm, $10. Get there early to make sure it doesn’t sell out!
Saturday, it’s Queerbomb at our awesome Eastside neighbors, Fair Market. QueerBomb is a family of LGBTQIA individuals gathering to support their unique and collective pride through a rally, procession down 6th Street, and finally a celebration at Fair Market. Austin’s DIY event is one of the best parties in town and takes place in June to commemorate Stonewall. 6pm to 1am.
Sunday, The Polyphonic Spree (pictured) bring their huge, 22-member, choral-rock collective to Barracuda. Austin’s own Calliope Musicals open. 8pm
Austin’s a great place to spend some time in the summer, and there’s no better place to stay than the Heywood! Take advantage of our low, low, low summer rates at https://heywoodhotel.com.
