✶PROLOGUE✶

Awkward, small. Take your pick. Both of those describe how I felt. Abandoning the home I grew up in. The city I lived my entire life in, up to this point. It's not something I ever imagined myself doing.
I had to. For reasons too painful to talk about. Reasons my mother has barely spoken about since it happened.
It's a weird feeling. I thought people were being dramatic. Moving. Not just moving, but moving into probably the smallest town I've seen in my life. Then again, we didn't visit many towns.
Moving to Forks was the best option. Getting away from everything that haunts us, getting away from the things that hurt us. Escaping.

"Mom!" I ran down the stairs. "You did not tell me my room was FANFUCKINGTASTIC?" My mother had a grin on her face. "Well, I thought you would like the balcony. I know my daughter." She set down a box. Jay came running down the stairs with our Golden Retriever, Dakota. "No fair." She pouted. "Why does she get the bigger room?" I turned to look at her, giving her a nasty look. "Um. I'm a year older than you, AND. GET THIS. You like smaller rooms." I said, rolling my eyes. She took a minute to think about it, and pointed her finger at me. "I forgot about that." I snorted. "Is that how you're gonna attract the guys," she said in a sarcastic tone, "snorting?" My face went serious, and I starting running towards her. She quickly started running up the stairs, and into my room. I tackled her onto my bed "Bitch!" We both paused, before we started laughing. "Jesus fucking christ" I said between laughs. I sighed, and pulled my phone out of my pocket, laying back, legs still hanging off the bed. "Damn, it's already 5." She pulled my phone out of my hands. "What the hell?" "I know, that's what I'm saying!"

"Do you need any help?" I asked my mother from the living room. "Yes actually, that would be great!" I smiled, pausing the show I was watching (for like the fifth time) and skipped into the kitchen. "What do I need to do?" I looked around the kitchen. "Could you cut the peppers?" "Oo! Damn, I love peppers." I smiled, and she handed me a knife. "The peppers are still in the bag." She smiled. "What's got you so happy?" I asked. "It's just. Things seem back to normal. You guys are acting like normal sisters again, I heard you laughing upstairs." I frowned, and looked at my mother, tears in her eyes, not daring to spill. I took a step towards her, and wrapped my arms around her. "It's gonna be okay. Everything happens for a reason. What matters now is that we are okay." I pulled away and gave her a smile. "Jay! Get your ass down here and help us cook!" I waited. "Jay!" "Fuck off!" I gasped. "Where are your manners!" "They're up your ass!" "My fucking fist is gonna be up your ass if you don't get down here!" I waited a minute, and I heard her door close, smiling to myself at my victory. I heard her footsteps coming down the stairs. I heard my mother laughing beside me. "What's so funny?" We asked in unison. "Oh, nothing. Jay will you please watch the things on the stove for a minute?" Jay smiled, kissing my mothers cheek. "Of course." My mother thanked her, and walked up the stairs.
"Jay?" She hummed in response. "Does it feel like.. It's getting back to normal to you?" I asked her, still chopping peppers. "Honestly, yeah. It still sucks but, what can we do. Life goes on." I smiled. "I just feel like. Like we're abandoning him. We left the city, we don't think about him as much." I sighed. She turned around to face me. "Rav, this is what he would want. Do you remember when he broke his leg and mom made you go to school, but you didn't want to leave him, and he smiled at you and told you not to worry. Not to think about him. To have fun?" I chuckled, and hummed. "He was always putting us before him." Jay smiled, wiping tears from her cheeks. "It's so unfair." I hugged her, letting out quiet sobs. After a few seconds, I heard sobs from somewhere else. I tilted my head to the side, and saw my mother watching us. I motioned for her to join us, and she wrapped her arms around us. Suddenly, I had a thought. "The food!" I quickly pulled away, and there was a moment of silence, before we all started laughing. "No but seriously, that's gonna burn." I smiled, as a "oh shit" look appeared on Jay's face, and she turned the stove off.
