It’s fucking weird being in an artistic major. Prior to this semester I was a business major and writing papers on tariffs and trade agreements. Before that I studied medicine for 4 years, and currently work in healthcare. Now my homework is like ‘express yourself using only the language of Line’ and ‘draft and construct a Princess Seam’ and then I go to work and give vaccines and do medical procedures and argue with the doctors and try and keep the interns from committing malpractice on the patients

#This is the absolute truth#source: I work at a medical school in their clinic#and by god do the residents hate treating people 95% of the time#Truly the comments I’ve heard when taken out of context (the context being we all hate clinic and everything to do with clinic)#would make the general populace distrust and hate doctors even more than they already do#The only ones who like treating people are the ones who specialize#and even then they only want to treat for a handful of things#the ICU docs want nothing to do with your hyperlipidemia and uncontrolled diabetes#but are thrilled at the opportunity to put in a trach and save your life#Your ortho doc doesn’t care that you have a UTI#but will go above and beyond to make sure your new hip works correctly#Your gyn will do a colposciopy np#but god forbid you have depression#No one will touch GI issues unless they’re a GI specialist#The main takeaway here is that doctors specialize to treat what they want to treat and want nothing to do with the rest of your symptoms#I hate healthcare#but I know how to work their system now#and have enough doctor besties to get reasonable medical care and advice

I reread YCCBCAD on a whim. Still holds up. Some grammatical errors and at least two typos I’d fix now. But all in all, it’s a cute story. It was a labor of love and it’s shocking and overwhelming that so many people have read and enjoyed it. 8500 kudos and 176k hits... wtf?
