And just like that This is Us is this is that. For the last six seasons I have watched, cried, anticipated and loved the Pearson family. Told everybody I know to watch it and can’t quite believe it has finished. This is Us is the most beautiful portrayal of family life and all it’s nuances. Each character is brilliant, individual, and flawed. It’s the flaws and the acceptance that all people change, grow and adapt, all whilst a family changes, grows and adapts around you. It celebrates life’s mess, that it is not always smooth and linear but what will remain is life, love and family - whatever shape it takes. For the longest time I always thought Jack was the hero of the story but after the final series each character is a hero in their own way, they all save each other, and in the end it is Rebecca that holds them all together. I am so pleased that I got to grow with the Pearson family and I will try and live my life as Rebecca asked the big three. There are so many quotable moments from all six series but this one has resonated with me right now. And it’s a pretty good personal mission statement. 15 months 👧🏼 15 months yesterday and I think we can definitely say our baby is turning into a toddler. The cute pics of outfits and smiles are being replaced with action shots that are just taken before she runs into the next dangerous adventure. Watching Ellen’s personality and wild spirit grow is amazing. Amazingly exhausting yes, but the wonder, excitement and gusto she has is incredible. I can’t get over how different parenting feels when they become more independent, you start to think about the language you use on a daily basis, the choices you make as a family and the focus your day has. Good Morning, How was your weekend? 🤔 When you are asked this today, what will you say? Will you tell the truth. If it was a fabulous weekend with lots of treats or a once in a lifetime experience will you shout it from the rooftops or will you shy away and say it was ok? If it was less than ideal, difficult or just boring will you tell people, share your burden or will you just say oh it was fine? It’s too easy on these squares to think that everybody is living a better life, a best life. The thought that every weekend should be filled with glamorous nights out, the best restaurants, weekends away, or an action packed weekend of thrills, spills and perfect crafts for the kids is just not realistic. Real life as it happened may not be deemed shiny enough for Insta grid posts but often it’s where the love and beauty is found. Sometimes it’s also where the heartache and struggle is too, and that’s just as good to share as the high life. So how was my weekend? Saturday was dull and filled with chores, jobs and overwhelm. Ellen is equal parts wonder, excitement and exhaustion and parts of the day are hard. Sunday was lovely we got jobs done, worked on some bits in the house, caught up with my sister for birthday presents and tea, and ate a very delicious space to Bolognese. It was the Sundayest of Sundays in the best possible way. Fourteen months old and Ellen never stops. To grab a picture that is not blurred is amazing. Everyday she amazes me with her confidence, her gumption and her endless smiles. Our road from infertility to pregnancy I have hinted on here a few times about our difficulty in conceiving, the problems I have with PCOS and endometriosis. I have now put the years of pain, disappointment and trauma down in words as best I can. I am one of the lucky ones, as you will well know, we have a wild beautiful baby girl. This boy and his food 🐾 He loves food and will happily beg for hours if it means he gets a crumb, but sometimes dinner time has been tricky.
