This is your local Tech Theatre person letting you know that a lot of us really really appreciate when you come see shows we’re working on! Lots of us have friends and family brush it off since they won’t see us onstage performing, but we work hard to make the shows what they are! Ask us about our shows!! Come see them if you’re able! Maybe give us flowers if you would do the same for a friend onstage! We don’t ever get flowers or anything but I just think it would be So Cute if someone brought a techie something like that

Set designers- if you change the groundplan after sending it to the entire staff, make sure you tell the director and stage manager. You don't want them to stage the entire show and then find out several pieces of furniture have been cut at the designer run through.

Get yourselves a best friend honestly that gets partnered with you on nearly anything and trusts you whole heartedly. From rapier choreography and acting scenes, and now stage management. Both of my ASM’s are fantastic for this show, but I’m glad that I get to work with someone that I’m close with.
This is someone I would always love to sing, act, and dance with forever. These are the types of friends that I think everyone needs in their life.

y’all i love getting to work with a professional theater after doing high school theater for so long
they’re so organized??? and there’s an actual rehearsal schedule??? AND you wash costumes after every show??? AND you honor conflicts??? AND we get a 5 min break every 50 minutes or a 10 min break every 80?????
literally just common sense lmao
but also union rules!!!!

Being the stage manager also means being the shows therapist, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that

Director: "we're gonna try to get through this run without stopping"
SM: "Ok, Blackout! Preshow music, music music..."
Director: "Can we stop for a moment?"
(sobs)
yeah that sounds about right

Sometimes I think "is stage management really the right career for a crippled AuDHD guy" and then I stay up all night in the throes of passion for spreadsheets and script formatting and do a prep weeks worth of paperwork in like 6 hours for a friend's (not even, we have exactly one class together and have interacted a total of three times) 4 week unpaid production of an interpretive dance version of a famous Bengali playwright's utterly devastating (but hopeful) script (Tagore's The Post Office)
You just can't get that in any other job, you really can't.
