Okay that virus that’s going around, is seriously fucking scary. I got the same thing on my computer about a week ago and I got rid of it, but it took a lot. This type of virus can control your browser, it can control your webcam, it can control all your files, and track you.
If you’ve seen the post already, do not click on the user if someone like this follows you.
If you do on accident, you will be taken to an FBI site, which tells you you’ve viewed pornography and stuff. Looks a little like this…
It asks you to pay a fine. ITS NOT REAL. DO NOT PAY IT. You won’t be able to leave the page, or close your browser. Your computer is probably infected now, and you need to remove it.
Click ctrl-alt-delete at the same time and open task manager. Shut down your browser. Uninstall it completely.
Reset your computer to the last known date when you didn’t have the virus.
Install and Run malawarebytes. It’s a free service, that get’s rid of all bugs in your computer. The download link is here. Most antivirus softwares can’t detect things like this, so your best bet is to just download it. Run a full scan to ensure your computer is clean.
Restart your computer, and you should be fine.
The main thing here is to not panic. I did, and it just makes the situation worse than it really is.
If you have seen a post about it, you’ll see that icon, and a URL with random letters. Please don’t risk it, you’ll have to work really hard to get it off your computer. Be careful, and DO NOT PANIC. Here is another tutorial on how to get rid of it,

So, I have been getting messages asking how to stay focused. I’m going to walk y’all through the things I have learned about “the art of focus”. These are just some things that help me, hopefully they help you too.
First things first. You need to want to focus. Like, you need to say, “I need to focus. I want to focus. This needs to get done.” If you can’t do that you might as well not read the rest of this. (Harsh, but true)
After School. What to do when you get home.
Get Comfy. Change your clothes if you need to. Wash your hands and your face, maybe take a shower. Leave the day’s stress and dirt behind.
Give yourself 15-20 minutes to just chill. Get a drink of water and maybe a snack. Let yourself unwind.
Take the crap off of your study space. Instead of cleaning your desk, literally just move everything that you don’t need out of your space. We all know that cleaning our desks/study spaces can turn into procrastination and wasted time. Literally pick up the clutter and put it someplace else. You can deal with that after you are done doing what you need to.
When you settle down to study, get all of the things that you need out. If you use a bujo or a planner take that out and figure out what you need to get done. Take out the papers, folders, notebooks and texts that you need.
In your bujo/planner or on a sticky note, make a list of things you need to do in order of priority. For example, if your first class the next day is math, do your math homework next. Save studying as the last thing. For real, get done the things that need to be turned in. Then study.
Time Management
I love the pomodoro method. I use an app called Focus Journals. It is pretty much a pomodoro that keeps track of focused and unfocused activity. It is free and you can get it on the Windows App store.
The Forest App is super useful. It lets you grow tiny trees when you don’t use your phone. I love it.
Break down your to do list into time slots. So, say you have maths. Give yourself 20 minutes to get it done. Treat that like a deadline. It will help you stay focused and keep you moving. I know it is easy to get spacey and off track. Hopefully giving small and manageable deadlines will allow you to work like you would when something is due.
Motivation. Here are some reasons to be motivated to focus.
You get an education. So many people don’t get this opportunity. Even though it sucks sometimes, you should really be glad that you get to go to school.
You can do anything. Literally anything. Even if it is hard and you don’t want to, you can.
You wanna buy some dogs? Some cats? A birb? You need to study so that you can get a good job and buy food and toys for your future pet.
If you focus and study and learn you can better yourself. George Washington Carver once said, “Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom”. Buckling down even when it’s hard is investing in your future. Do everything you can to give yourself an advantage.
If you get done what you need to you can go do other, more fun things. That is 10000000000000 times better than sitting at your desk for hours feeling bored and frustrated. Just get things done.
Last but not least, get off of this hell site. Right now, just click out.
You rebel. No but really you are super cool and amazing. You can do this. If you ever need anything I am here for you.

coffee: always frantic, has a crammed schedule, never stops consuming caffeine, will agree to go to a party even if they have a six a.m. shift the next day
bujo: organized, likes to makes lists and keep track of things, plans outfit the night before, stresses when they get a grade less than a B
oops: stopped caring in the third grade, somehow manages to get okay grades, never studies, kind of lazy, would eat Waffle House at 3 in the morning
sweatshirt: is trying as hard as they possibly can, has to study and work hard for their grades, constantly stressing, has social anxiety, tries to do every extra curricular under the sun
aesthetique: probably vegetarian or vegan, has a “mom jean” 80′s aesthetic, glorifies local cafes, wants to live in Europe, always wants to cut their hair
gothique: black clothes only, still stans my chemical romance, uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism, desperately wants some tattoos, likes the black lipstick look but too shy to do it

LIFE TIPS PT. I
if it takes less than two minutes, do it now
always carry a water bottle!! you’ll (obviously) drink more water but you’ll also save money on buying drinks when you’re out on hot days
if you notice something you like about someone, tell them. genuine compliments are way too few and far between.
when you meet someone, repeat their name back to them. it’ll help you remember it (bc i am the worst at zoning out and immediately forgetting someone’s name)
give yourself a time limit to get work done. you’ll do more up against a 30 minute timer than if you have all day to get something done
also: be specific with your goals. if you want it done by winter, say you’ll do it one november 15. it’s easy to let time slip by.
no one’s forcing your friends to hang out with you. they want to be around you. don’t try to convince yourself otherwise.
never under estimate the power of a hot meal if you’re feeling unmotivated. take a break and make a grilled cheese dude
always keep $20 in your car for emergences
have a binder/folder to keep all your financial/important documents together. even if you don’t organize them beyond that it’ll make them so much easier to find when you need them
don’t sleep w makeup on!! keep a travel size thing of makeup wipes by your bed for nights that you’re too exhausted to wash your face for real
if you’re studying/working and can’t focus, go outside and take a walk around the building. stare at the sky for a minute. it helps.
networking: when you meet someone, put some notes in with their contact. remembering their kids’ names will make you stand out
fold your clothes while they’re still warm + you won’t have to iron later
get that chair out of your room. we all know your dirty clothes are sitting in it more than you are.
instead, stick some hooks on your closet door for those sorta-clean, sorta-dirty clothes that you wanna wear again
keep a running list on your phone of songs you hear that you like, books you want to read, etc
write down all your friends birthdays!!
if you can’t sleep, try to imagine something in great detail. design your dream house. plan your wedding. whatever makes you happy + relaxed
get dressed as soon as you get up, even if you aren’t going anywhere. it’s hard to feel productive in sweat pants.
if you don’t ask, the answer is always no
thrift stores are super trendy lately, but they really are great for finding high-quality clothing for cheap.
don’t read the comments section. especially if it’s something you actually care about.
fresh veggies go bad fast, so if you can’t get to the store often have a couple frozen bags of your favs on hand!!
also, pasta is crazy cheap and easy to make into a meal. add some olive oil and those frozen veggies and bam, grown up meal in no time.
be intentional with your friendships. if you want to see someone again, set a date instead of the old “let’s get coffee sometime!” that never actually happens
libraries exist!! and theyre fantastic!!!
if you’re buying anything, always google “_______ coupons” while you’re in line. you can usually find one, esp at chains!!
if it’s not something you need, put it back and sleep on it. if you want it bad enough to go back and get it a day or two later, it’s (probably) worth the money.
also, think if you’ll enjoy it for the same amount of time if took to earn that money. doesn’t work with everything (food, experiences), but for things like clothes/technology/home goods, it can help you save some $$$
you don’t have to do something if it makes you unhappy. sure, there are times that you have to suck it up and power through, but 99% of the time you have to option to say no and get outta there.
be kind. seriously you hear it a lot but it is so important.

how to win at college
this also applies to high school in a lot of ways, esp in organization and involvement
I read this book by cal newport called “how to win at college” in prep for my freshman year & u should definitely read it yourself because there are lots of important points i don’t cover in this post, but if you don’t want to, this is my summary of what I think were the most important points he made.
STUDY HARD, BUT YOUR GRADES DON’T MEAN AS MUCH AS WHAT YOU LEARN OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM. he prioritizes getting vital experiences such as
- joining a club and eventually taking responsibility in it and becoming a leader
- apply for scholarships every year (he said 10 a year)
- volunteer, but not for your resume. do it to learn and become a better person.
- get involved in research, and get involved in your major department (like go to the events and lectures, even if they aren’t mandatory)
- write outside of class regularly because writing is super important (example- submit to your school newspaper)
STAY ORGANIZED AND ON TOP OF YOUR SHIT
- he really really REALLY emphasizes not procrastinating and studying / starting papers well in advance of deadlines. his rules are to
- - >start long term projects immediately after they are assigned and continue to work on them by following a reasonable schedule (he says to finish early, revise, then finish again),
- - > take 3 days to write shorter papers (aka you have abt 2 weeks to work on them and they range from 2-15ish pages) (aka make preparations pre writing, then write a rough draft on the first day, revise and focus your writing on the second day (make sure your arguments are very clear!), and polish your paper on the third day), and
- - >take 2 weeks to study for an exam. study in shorter blocks during the first week, like maybe an hour or so each day. over the weekend, add more hours. the few days before the test, study in 2-3 hour chunks to really cement the already familiar information.
- get a filing cabinet for your papers instead of just piling them on your desk and having to search for them later.
- have a HIGH QUALITY notebook and a folder for each class (or whatever stationery keeps you organized) and keep all your folders/notebooks/binders neat and organized.
- empty your inbox and organize your emails
- schedule your free time- aka have specific times that you choose to relax and spend with friends rather than unintentionally relaxing during work time, or worrying about work during relaxation time.
TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
- you NEED sleep, you NEED healthy food, and you NEED exercise. you really shouldn’t put anything ahead of these things.
- NEVER pull an all nighter. if you’re studying ahead of time, this should be easy. all nighters aren’t glamorous, they’re unproductive, really stressful, and unhealthy
- keep in touch with old friends, and remember to call your mom
- make sure to spend time with new friends and take care of them. be there for your friends.
- keep your room neat and make your bed!!
like i said, there is a lot of important stuff that I didn’t cover so i recommend reading the book how to win at college by cal newport, and take what you need to from it. good luck!!!

Advice for reading more advanced research papers:
Since we’re talking about it and I have experience with it, I’ll share what I’ve learned about it. Here are my troubleshooting tips, I hope they help.
I’m completely lost:
This paper might assume you know more than you currently do. Take a day or three to watch introductory videos to the topic, or read tutorials. Feel free to start reading when you can skim and at least recognize all the terms that aren’t defined in the paper.
I can’t put the pieces together very well, I’m familiar with the terminology, but it makes it harder to understand:
With a paper or pen in hand, write out the same sentences that you aren’t parsing, except replace the terms with their definitions. You might find that re-writing is a time consuming yet very effective process. It might even make the sentence look blatantly obvious. You might wonder why it had to be said at all. That means it’s working. This is my #1 favorite trick, it makes everything easier to think about.
I’m stuck on one line. It’s dense:
Try out the trick noted above. If it’s still giving you trouble, try working out a few examples by hand. If that’s giving you trouble, take a break and come back to it.
I’m stuck on one line. It looks wrong and it’s upsetting me:
Congratulations! You have enough confidence in this subject that you have certain expectations, and can call out stuff that sounds wrong.
If the paper was peer reviewed and published, you should immediately assume that this is not a typo or a mistake. Look for any lines you skipped, further context, explanations, footnotes, and make sure you understand what’s really being said. These will help you. If they do not, attempt to find a counterexample or a proof. That will either be a worthwhile email to the author or an enlightening activity.
If the paper has not been peer reviewed or published, all bets are probably off. People make mistakes, and it happens more than we’d like to admit. Try to prove or disprove the statement. See what happens.
A few Stack-exchange users suggest noting your issues with that line, accepting the conclusion, moving on, and coming back to adress your doubts later. I don’t. Math has a lot of unfortunate and counter-intuitive truths that need you to follow through with your questioning. Accepting something you can’t prove is a bad habit. Don’t get used to it.
I’m not understanding what I’m reading:
Are you taking care of yourself? Have you eaten, slept, rested, exercised, hydrated, and so on? If not, fix that, and try to come back to it later. It’s not always a good time to read a research paper.
I can’t recall what I read very well:
Don’t highlight, you need to interact with the text more. Take a pen and get ready to annotate. Put the subject/topic of every paragraph in the margin. Highlight important details, and also summarize them in the margin. If you have any questions, also write them in the margin. If the paper leaves out any justifications you are able to provide, add them in-between the lines.
I’m not in the mood to read because I’m tired:
Then don’t read it. It might be tempting to at least sit down with it, but what good is that when you’re probably going to surf the web on your phone or fall asleep. Don’t even kid yourself. Just save it for a better time.
I’m not in the mood to read because it’s intimidating:
Interpret it one line at a time. Be patient. Look up what you have to look up. Intend to finish this sentence and don’t worry about the next ones. Once you finish it, make the choice to keep going to the next sentence or not. You’ll probably blow through a paragraph in a little bit of time, which is better than nothing at all.
I’ve gotten lost in the details and can’t really contextualize what I learned:
Find a friend, online followers, or a taxicab driver and try to explain the paper. Just try it until you’re happy with how you explain it and contextualize it. That’s a good tool.

how to survive bad school days, from morning till night
my last year of high school starts rather soon, and i’ve had more than my fair share of days when i wake up wanting to cry. there aren’t many things you can do when obligations like school force you to get over it as soon as it starts, so here are some tips to make your day better.
1. dress opposite the way you feel. even though sweats might be super tempting, dress up. wear your favorite pair of jeans, or a dress, or your cutest sneakers, even. wear bright colors at least. sweatpants and such will just make you feel even more blah and unfocused throughout the day.
2. moisturize! this might seem like an odd idea, but moisturizing and going into school glowy and soft definitely helps me feel more comfortable and less ugh during the school day. it helps keep me in my home-y comfort zone, if that makes sense.
3. carry something from home. this can be a book (even if you don’t read it), a tube of chapstick, a big waterbottle, etc… i have even gone as far as wrapping myself in a small blanket and walking around like that for the day. if you like this option and don’t feel comfortable wearing it, fold it up and place it in your backpack, just so you know it’s there.
4. plan out your day. even if it’s just making a mental note, tell and remind yourself of the things your going to do and when. this will get rid of any unnecessary stress and pressure. if something unexpected comes up, this will also help you manage your time a little better.
5. eat and drink happy things! pick today to pack a lunch, no matter what your usual routine is. drink plenty of water throughout this day, and eat as many fruits and veggies as you can. fill a reusable water bottle with water, fruit (like lemon or strawberries), and chia seeds! it’s perfect to sip throughout the day for a reboot or just to boost your mood.
6. when you get home, bathe immediately! wash off the day’s dirt. drop everything as soon as you get home, and either jump in the shower or relax in a bath with your favorite soaps and scents and a book. give yourself a break before you have to get back to work.
7. don’t ignore your work. by work, i mean school work. if you’re having a bad day, don’t hesitate to take a break from talking to people or running (low-priority) errands. you don’t want to ignore schoolwork, though, because teachers aren’t the most lenient people in the world, and getting it done will take a lot off of your shoulders. pushing it away will only gain you more bad days.
8. go to bed. get sleep! you want to be refreshed and happy for the next day, even if it’s a weekend. there’s a good chance your bad day began because you didn’t get enough sleep, or because you were ripped out of bed. reward yourself with rest after a long day.

If you have to re-take a class, because you didn’t do so well it’s okay. if you have to spend an extra year in school because of current struggles it’s okay. These are only parts of your life, this isn’t your entire life. Only a small scene part of the bigger movie. A grade doesn’t define your worth. You are still a human being with value. Do your best. Grind as hard as you can, reach out to your professor and network with other students to study together. Don’t give up. There are so many more options out there for you.
This is only a low point, this isn’t the end for you.

wax/shave. (if you want. i just really like how fresh my skin feels after i torture it with razors and wax strips)

see if there’s anything in your storage that you don’t need/want anymore and give stuff away or sell them.
