angsty injury things … sentence starters
“Can you walk?”
“That looks broken.“
“That’s a lot of blood.”
“Tell me where it hurts.”
“Why are you bleeding?“
“That’s not just a scratch.”
“I thought you were dead!”
“Don’t you pass out on me!”
“Hey, hey, stay with me, ok?“
“You got hurt, again? Again?”
“Just sit up and breathe, ok?“
“Holy crap, you look like hell.”
“What happened to your leg?“
“Thank god you’re breathing…”
“You should get that looked at.”
“You can barely walk. Sit down.”
“I’m going to carry you, now, ok?”
“Is it bleeding? It’s still bleeding?”
“Where’d you get those bruises?”
“Don’t move, you’ll make it worse!“
“We need to get you to a hospital.“
“You were really hurt. Really hurt…”
“Oh, that’s going to leave a bruise.”
“How many fingers am I holding up?“
“Here, press this against the wound.”
“Here, lean on me. I’ll help you walk.”
“Hold still, I have to bandage this up.”
“Don’t move, I’m getting a first-aid kit.”
“Why didn’t you tell me it was this bad?”
“How the hell did you do this to yourself?“
“Shush, just concentrate on staying awake.”
“This is going to hurt, but I need to clean that.”
“Oh, god. Please be alive. Please still be alive!”
“On a scale of 1 to 10, how much does it hurt?“
“That looks pretty bad. I think you need stitches.”
“What do you mean you’re fine? You are not fine!”
“You should lay down, you hit your head pretty hard.”
“Well… I hope you at least gave as good as you got.”
“That’s a really nasty looking bruise. Need some ice?”
“I got you. It’s gonna be okay, you’re going to be okay.”
“I don’t know how you’re even conscious at this point.”
“Stop being so stubborn and just let me patch you up!”
“You’re going to stay in bed and heal. I’ll handle things.”
“I’m going to find you did this to you, and I’m going to kill them.”
“’Don’t do that’, I said. ‘You’ll get hurt’, I said. And what did you do?”
“So, you tried bandaging this up, and you… well, you did your best.”
“Oh, thank god, you’re finally awake. Thought I lost you for a minute there.”
“I found you laying out there in the cold. Had to fight to keep you breathing.”
“Okay, no, I’m not laughing. Not laughing. Are you okay? That must’ve hurt.”
“Who did this to you? And, no, I’m not going to believe this was an accident.”
“Of course I’m worried about you. You keep getting hurt, and keep not letting people look after you.”
“I bandaged you up while you were out and… this isn’t the first time you’ve been hurt this bad, is it? I saw the scars.”

"Happy birthday, baby." Andrea grinned as she kissed him. | @thecavclry
"Thank you," Charlie smiled against her lips before cheekily pulling her into his lap and wrapping his arms around her. "How'd you get here so early? Didn't we originally agree on meeting at lunchtime?" He didn't mind Andrea being there; it was a pleasant surprise to see his girlfriend at the rehab center in the early hours.

Charlie nodded in response, expressing that he could relate and respected trusting his partner. He felt the same way about his colleagues; they both had to be fully committed to this type of trust in their respective fields of work. "You don't have to convince me, Dana. Mom had told me enough about him," he said recalling a conversation with Maggie while they were in the hospital with Melissa, "to get a picture. He seems like a good guy."
It was a question she found herself asking lately as she became less and less confident in the system she had always trusted. There were too many lies, too many hidden motives, and how could it be that when they could find a suspect with nothing more than a slither of DNA and half a fingerprint but when her sister is shot, the weapon left beside her, no one could find a single thing to follow?
"I'm not by myself," she immediately countered, confident in the reality of that. "Mulder's helping me. I know he might not be part of our family, but I trust him." With my life, she added silently. "He's wants answers as much as we do."

"What a luxury," he joked about the situation and how involved Maggie already was, using humor to hide how unable he was to not compare it to his strained relationship with their mom, which had lasted for so long by now. The last time his kids saw their grandma would have been Missy's baptism, shortly after her birth. "How's she doing?" No matter what, he was glad for Dana to have that opportunity to be close with her.
"Yeah, right," he said, returning the smile. He cut himself off from further talking as her phone rang. Leaning back into his seat, his mind wandered. He thought about how his teachers would surely have disagreed, given that Charles repeated sixth grade and was the only one of them without a college degree.
Taking his leg off the armrest, he almost immediately got ready to support her as his tactical thinking kicked in. "How short are we talking about?" Charlie knew he would slow her down in his current condition but he didn't want to let her go alone, considering they didn't have much time until that potential lead would go cold.
Dana didn't really believe any worthwhile parent had actual favourites, that they picked between their children, but she did think perhaps they couldn't help but bond with some of their kids more than others, either due to shared interest or symbiotic personalities. It was just for all their father's flaws, the way her siblings seemed to feel frightened by that shadow of his, Dana only really had memories of closeness and bonding. Of course he could be absent due to his job, and he was tough, a figure of authority in their lives, but she couldn't look back on her childhood time with him with anything other than fondness.
"You can make it whatever you want it to be," she told him neutrally negating to say anything about better or worse than their own dad. "This is your family, Charlie, you get to decide what time you spend with them, and what kind of time it will be." She certainly planned to do that with her own child, and she only hoped she was going to be able to actively reassure them more than her own mom had ever seemed really capable of. Margaret Scully was a hard woman to get affectionate affirmations out of.
Hearing Charlie mention their mom, it felt for a moment like he'd been reading her mind. She smiled, a small laugh slipping through, unable to deny his point.
"Well, she's already been making her visits more frequent," she admitted. "And you should see the vitamins she's decided to fill my medicine cabinet with. You'd think she was the one who went to medical school." Though it could be a little much, it was also nice, knowing there was someone there determined to help, to make sure she wasn't doing this alone.
"Oh that's great, Charlie," Dana enthused, just as her cellphone began to ring. "And you weren't that bad. But it's possible your teachers would have a very different opinion," she added with a smile before leaning over to pick up her phone. "Hello?" Pause. "Lan--" There was silence in the room as Scully listened to the other line, her forehead lining with concentration and concern. "You're positive?" Pause. "No, no, I can follow it up. I, uh, I'll let you know." She pressed end call and looked to her brother.
"That was, uh, that was a friend. He believes he might have a lead on Mulder, or at least something that might help." She paused again, thinking on what to do, how to move forward, keenly aware that neither herself or her brother were really the best candidates to be going out for a short drive to the middle of nowhere. But what other choice did she have? "How do you feel about a short road trip?"

"If our system is no longer functioning, as you say, why should we continue to support it?" he pondered. While his question may seem somewhat idealistic, he quickly reflected on his inquiry. "Well, this has been the status quo, hasn't it? That's why we've chosen our path." Gods, he started to sound like Melissa he realized the moment those words were out. Showing how much of an influence their sister had on their youngest while they grew up.
Then it occurred to him. "Why are you so eager to do this by yourself?" Charles reasoned, gently shaking his head. "Dana, you don't have to shoulder this burden alone."
"The NCIS?" The reluctance was in Dana's voice even before she started to question the suggestion. She shook her head a little, already preparing to protest, and privately wondering when it was that Mulder's habit of trusting no one had also become her own. But what system could she trust, what faction, when it seemed there were secret powers hiding behind every corner, making everything uncertain?
"I don't know, Charlie...." She shook her head again, debating the idea, but finding herself reluctant. "I'm not even sure I'd want them involved..." Of course, if their mother decided to involve them and they agreed, there would be nothing Dana could do to stop them...and she supposed there was no real reason not to want their help.
Except for the feeling that more factions, more bodies, was only going to make getting to the truth harder.
"I don't think justice, or answers, are going to be found that way," she finally said. "I don't think that's how this works, not anymore."
