that scar sammy's got, like a red ribbon down his spine, thicker in the middle where the knife cut in to the hilt, where it split his baby brother open like a fucking earthquake.

dean can't help but stare at it when sammy tugs his shirt over his head to shower, to change, or 'cause it's too hot in their motel room. and that scar, it stares right back, seething and taunting.

it's all he can think about, when sammy's working a case, like they always do, when he's talking to folks at the bar with a toothy grin and that boyish charm, when he's asleep in the car next to him, hair swept against his forehead.

and dean can't help but think about what his sammy would look like--feel like--with his face in the mattress, and that scar looking up at him. can't help but wonder what it'd be like to thumb over the edges of pink skin, soft beneath rough hands, begging for attention where it sits, cradled in the small of sammy's back.

maybe he'd stop wondering if he could just feel it, just once...
