Colleen turned to the blonde before her and let out a very unladylike snort while she tried to cover a wry smile. She failed.

“Cockroach? Why the hell didn’t I think of that? But it’s true, I just can’t understand why he keeps coming back; I suppose he’s never heard of letting sleeping dogs lie. Oh but don’t forget he, like the common roach really has no true purpose.”

   Josiah was highly entertained by her immediate response to his remark, finding that, even though it had probably been in poor taste to toss such scandel at someone he didn’t know, it was funny.

  He would never fully grasp why anyone would not simply retreat into the void if another made it quite clear they were not welcome; the young man knew enough to keep his distance, of course. Others..it just didn’t make any sense to him. He could understand if there was love there, but he knew that the woman before him did not return the others affection and so, it seemed pointless. He could admire - if nothing else - the determination that lay there. ‘  —perhaps one of these days.. he’ll come to realise that you deserve more than what he thought he was offering you.  ‘
