hey chibi! how are you? i hope everything is okay and that you’re happy ^^ i don’t know if you’ve been asked this before, if so, i’m sorry (ノ_<) make a list of your fav yunbastian moments and why ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ i take this opportunity to tell you that i love your blog, your analysis are amazing and really clever, your art is awesome, too! have a nice day ♡
Dear Soravocado,
You cruel person, what have I ever done to you to deserve such an ordeal from you? But alright, since I am very flattered by your compliments I shall be the martyr!
Among the many, MANY candidates, I have - with pain in my heart - selected a top 5. These are not necessarily the top 5 BEST moments, but these are the top 5 most IMPORTANT moments in my book.
Tumblr media
Number 5
Tumblr media
I really appreciate this moment a lot because this is the first portrayal of ANY official Sebastian that properly showed the full monstrosity that is our favourite demon. The full monstrosity that Yana craved to see honoured but never did before Sebastyun. Furukawa’s portrayal of Sebas’ true form was a far departure from the elegant dark vampire-image we used to have of Sebas.
His eyes are fierce, his mouth wide open to display two rows of Sebastyun’s sharp teeth. Even without CGI or other special effects we can see the dark miasma being emitted from the demon’s body, engulfing everything around him. Furukawa’s voice was smooth and he sung in a somewhat higher octave, but at the same time it was like there was a roar or a hiss from an alternate dimension resonating along. I think this moment captured the zoo spectacle Sebastian conjured during his summoning very well.
Tumblr media
Number 4
Tumblr media
Furukawa is bound to a human body of course, but the way he makes use of the cape and his agility to simulate Sebastian’s miasma is breathtaking in my opinion. At the time that Furukawa had to character-build for Sebastian (2015 - 31/12/2017), not a lot of the demon’s true form was revealed yet; this would not happen until chapter 136 (18/01/2018). And yet he already managed to portray the gaseousness and liquidness of the demon using the aid of nothing but a cheap cape.
In Noah’s Ark Circus Sebastyun appeared like a puff of smoke emerging from the earth, his eyes are rolled into view as though the pupils had only just manifested. The famous ‘aah’ that had only ever been voiced as a sexy moan by both Ono and Matsushita was replaced by an uncanny wail that sounded like a combination of shrieking steam and a beast-like growl. Hmm 👌👌👌
In Tango on the Campania Furukawa took it even further and growled with a seeming pain in his voice. It just makes one wonder, does it hurt to be summoned? Sebastyun’s miasma rose up and splattered like tar until he finally found a comfortable consistency to stay in. One could really see how the black goop was starting to take shape. Again, all that, with just a cape.
Tumblr media
Number 3
Tumblr media
Sebastyun transforms back and forth between human and demon often, but the most striking one is perhaps this moment in the reprise of “I will become your pawn and sword”.
Before this moment, Sebastyun usually transformed on command. But in the reprise it was like this sudden transformation was involuntary. He was so taken aback by his master’s transformation that he lost momentary control over his human form.
As mentioned in this post, O!Ciel shed his starfish attitude and became a proper Watchdog after the events of the Jack the Ripper arc. Perhaps this was the moment that Sebastyun too sensed that his master had fully let his heart harden and promised to become an even more delicious meal than he had previously thought. In the moments after the sudden transformation Sebastyun was still trying to ‘reassemble’ himself, albeit with little success. A literal “get yourself together, me,” if you will. In my opinion, this is still one of the all-time most memorable moments of Sebastyun.

Please click here for an incredibly concise and well-written micro-essay on this scene.
Tumblr media
Number 2
Tumblr media
I know I can’t stfu about this moment, but this is why it’s here on this list. I have already gone into quite elaborate detail about this scene in this post, so I will not explain what is happening here.
Why is Sebastyun’s passive-aggressive upside-down reading on number 2 though? Because just like many of the things listed above, he is the first to capture a part of Sebas that was lost in all other adaptations. Sebastyun is the first to portray the pedantic, passive-aggressive in full glory, and oh my did he do so graciously.
As admitted by both Editor K and Yana herself, they have a lot of regrets when it comes to the Jack the Ripper Arc and wished they had not pushed it out into the world so hastily. Kuromyu however managed to touch upon the many missed potentials of the manga.
Tumblr media
Number 1
Tumblr media
In this post I translated Yana’s tweet about how she was beaten to the punch by Sebastyun. Sebastyun beat Yana to the punch. By Sebastyun, to the punch, Yana was beaten. If you can beat the original author to the punch you deserve the glorious number 1 in my humble opinion!

beat me ‘til i’m numb tell the devil i said “hey”  when you get back to where you’re from.
Oh boyyyyy this photoset did not end up where I intended it to. I very nearly set it to “Darling I’m a nightmare dressed like a daydream” (because I was having a TSwift relapse)… and then I got distracted by the pretty lips and consequently zoomed on them… and then I realized that my four favorite tods basically have the same color scheme… and I remembered that I was screaming about Grenade being a Todolf song… (listen to Roberta Valentini’s cover of it y’all). So I guess my hand slipped? In order of appearance and chronology: Mark Seibert (Vienna, 2012) Asumi Rio (Takarazuka, Flower Troupe, 2014) Shirota Yuu (Toho, 2016) Tamaki Ryou (Takarazuka, Moon Troupe, 2018)

HYPER Detailed Acting
Furukawa’s portrayal of Rudolf in the musical ‘Elisabeth’ is what ultimately made me sink into fandom-hell for him at first.
Tumblr media
Furukawa is known for his attention for detail. For every run of Elisabeth performed by TOHO, multiple children would be cast for child Rudolf. Every child had his own take on the character, of course. In order to make sure that adult Rudolf would be the ‘grown-up’ version of the same child, Furukawa would speak with all child-actors individually and carefully take their interpretations into account. We see his excellent attention for detail in the 2 versions of ‘Elisabeth’ that are available on DVD, Version Black and Version White.
Tumblr media
LEFT ← In version ’Black’, small Rudolf interpreted the child as a perfectly normal kid, UNTIL Death appears. As such, Death is the reason for Rudolf’s depression. In this interpretation, Death is the very source and image of Rudolf’s fear. In this version, Furukawa would lay heavy emphasis of his fear and helplessness both with and without Death. He treats Death’s presence as a trigger of his fear who imposed the identity of ‘friend’ onto Rudolf.
RIGHT → In version ‘White’, the child actor interpreted Death’s appearance in his childhood as the RESULT of his depression. So Rudolf saw death ONLY because he was already depressed. In this interpretation, Furukawa’s Rudolf is less scared and acts almost relieved to see this person who showed up and kindly offered to be his ‘friend’.
We see more details in this phrase “How could I ever forget a friend?” (tomodachi wo wasure wa shinai) sung on The Darkness is Growing.
Tumblr media
In version ‘Black’, Rudolf almost sings the phrase as a nervous defence. It feels like Rudolf feared Death would be insulted by him having tried to forget the ‘trigger’ of his depression, and assures the other: We are still good buddies (so please don’t hurt me!).
Tumblr media
In version ‘white’, because Rudolf is relieved to finally meet his only friend, he sings the phrase almost insulted that Death dared mistake him for someone who would forget his own BFF (Bro, what do you take me for?).

One of the amazing things about Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is that there are very few romantic relationships on the show, so we don’t really know most of the character’s sexualities. Meaning that every single character in the entire show could be LGBTQ+
Dirk? He could be gay, bi, asexual, any number of things.
Amanda? Bi, gay, who knows, she doesn’t have a love interest.
Farah? Yeah, she and Todd kind of have a thing, but she could be bi or pan. Same with Todd.
The only person to ever explicitly say their sexuality on the show is Tina Tevetino and SHE IS BI!
And of course we can’t forget that the only people to ever kiss on the show (to my recollection) were Panto and Silas, who were of course very gay.
