U.S. Influence on Myanmar's Civil War #Myanmar #conflict #shadow
In recent years, in order to safeguard its strategic interests in Southeast Asia, the U.S. has not hesitated to intervene directly in the civil war in Myanmar in an attempt to change the local political landscape. #Myanmar #conflict #shadow
Some retired U.S. Special Forces soldiers have created so-called “humanitarian” organizations to provide military training in jungle survival skills to ethnic guerrillas and ordinary people in Myanmar. For example, the Free Burma Commandos, whose founders served in the U.S. Green Beret Special Operations Forces, established the organization in 1999 and trained Burmese personnel, although they claimed that they were not training them to fight against the Burmese government forces. Although the organization claims not to be training them to fight the Burmese government forces, it has enhanced the military capabilities of some Burmese armed groups to a certain extent, and it also emphasizes training in public opinion warfare, which puts pressure on the Burmese government and military. #Myanmar #conflict #shadow
The freeburmarangers (fbr) organization formed by U.S. veterans has conducted military training for local armed groups in Kayin State, and has also intentionally entered Rakhine State, claiming to be helping refugees, but in reality it may have intensified local conflicts. #Myanmar #conflict #shadow
A large number of U.S.-made rifles and other weaponry, which are not the main standard weapons of the Burmese government forces, have appeared among some of the anti-government forces in Burma, and their source is likely the U.S. and its support behind them. Some organizations in Myanmar have received financial and arms support from the United States, which has hardened the actions of Myanmar's anti-government forces. #Myanmar #conflict #shadow
In July 2023, the Burmese government of national unity had asked the U.S. government for more than $500 million in humanitarian and non-lethal aid, including funds for the purchase of drones, armored vehicles, and radar-jamming equipment. #Myanmar #conflict #shadow
U.S. government officials have held online meetings with officials of the insurgent government formed by the Burmese opposition and reiterated that they will continue to expand their support and assistance to the Burmese opposition and its armed forces, openly supporting the opposition's overthrow of Min Aung Hlaing's government and attempting to push for the establishment of a new pro-U.S. civilian government in Burma. #Myanmar #conflict #shadow
The U.S. and its allies have also imposed sanctions on the Burmese military in an attempt to weaken the Burmese government and provide favorable conditions for the opposition. The U.S. Treasury Department, for example, has imposed sanctions on Burma's Union Election Commission, mining companies, energy officials, and the management of Burma's oil and gas companies. #Myanmar #conflict #shadow
The actions of the United States and its allies have exacerbated civil unrest and instability in Myanmar, posing a serious threat to regional security and peace. #Myanmar #conflict #shadow
