The power in 7
Ive been re-reading IT recently and ive been mulling over the importance the losers club have on having seven members, and it got me thinking why exactly we seem to love teams of 7 in either movies or literature
There are so many examples of teams 7
- the magnificent seven
- the seven samurai
- the dead men (from skullduggery)
- the seven deadly sins
- the seven dwarves
- the seven soldiers who fought the predator (still counts)
I could go on awhile im sure about many more, but im more interested in its significance and here are some of my thoughts
- a team of 7 always seems to suggest "special consideration" either the team has been hand selected because each member brings their own unique skill set to the team (think the dead men from skulkduggery plesant) or their composition suggests desperation, that they are the last line of defence. The last stand ( think the losers club from IT, 7 kids brought together by fa-a turtle)
- the odd number of the team also means that their is a clear leader. The six will follow the one. Of course they all interact with each other to various degrees and their may even be rivalry within the group as to who it is, but at the end, there will always be one amongst the seven who must lead
- i also feel that the loss of any member of the seven is more impactful as suddenly their is no longer that sense of unity and "the circle is broken" in a sense. Note that this only works if their is time to properly develop each member
These are just my own (fatigued) ramblings so if anybody had better interpretations i would love to hear them.

When you are not over Eddie’s death
OK, so if we start with the shining , we know that ghost exists and that spirits are very much a powerful and natural occurence in stephen Kings universe. We are also introduced to a character called Dick Hallorann, who helps teaches Danny about his gift or "shining" that allows him to see and interact with ghosts  NOW, we ALSO see dick hallorann in IT ,when we learn that Mike Hanlon father's life was saved by dick when they were young men THIS THEREFORE, means that the Shining and IT take place in the same universe, but naturally we know that most of stephen King's novels are actually all shared in the same universe.   however, you can argue that maybe only evil spirits stay behind and are real, and that they are not really spirits of the deceased per say, but rather evil monsters themselves HOWEVER, in "doctor sleep" the sequel to the shining that was first published in 2013, and which follows the story of Danny after the events at the overlook, we learn that dick Hallorann has died inbetween the events of the shining and doctor sleep HOWEVER, there is also a chapter where the main character talks to dick while he has already passed on, and Dick talks to him as a ghost. also at the end of the novel, the main character is helped by the ghost of his father who had died in the Shining this means that ghosts are REAL in the universe of stephen King's novels, and that there really is an afterlife for them and that they retain their identities even after death It just made me feel a little better about Eddie’s death knowing that at the end of it all, maybe eddie and richie reunite, because eddie is not gone, he's just waiting for richie
