The closer we get to the Obamas’ departure, the more we, as a nation, have become aware of just how good we’ve had it. So we dreamed up the 12 days of Obama, a series of pieces by different writers devoted to recognizing the magnitude of some of the President and First Lady’s remarkable accomplishments over the course of the past eight years.
Read the series here.

A photo series of Taylor Hill inspired by Kanye West. Before he decided on The Life of Pablo, Ye changed the album name 3 times. First: So Help Me God and Swish. Next: Waves. Finally: The Life of Pablo reimagined as “The World of Fashion” with Kanye and Taylor as Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Wintour.

Ta-Ta For Now
This class has been a really cool experience and I can honestly say that I have not only learned a lot, but have actually been interested in the topics discussed. Here are my top favorites:
OMNI-CHANNELING I think that the most surprising thing I learned this semester has to do with omni-channelling and the fact that it is not yet commonplace in the industry. I have always considered in-store pickup and “order online whatever is currently unavailable in-store” to be a couple of the basic qualities a fashion company needs to stay relevant in the eye of the consumer and to increase its customer service abilities. Because I believed this to be commonplace, I have been anxiously considering the limitless and heavily technology-fueled future of closets that connect to the store website and fabricate the clothes in your home ….not wondering when we will finally not have to pay for 3-day shipping!
DEAD MALLS/ THE NEW MALL I have genuinely been worried about the general direction that male are headed. As an avid shopper, I live for true quality malls where I can get a lot of shopping done in a super easy and convenient manner, so this whole “dying malls” thing is not my cup of tea. I have always wondered what exactly has been driving this trend and the whole time the answer has been sitting in my own two hands: easy accessibility to an oversaturated market…basically I have been fueling the downfall of my favorite pastime. What is really fascinating, however, is the transition of huge malls and department stores from purely fashion retailers to suppliers of a full lifestyle experience. At good quality malls and department stores, it is no longer unrealistic to be able to all of your clothes shopping, food shopping, and have a super delicious meal all in one location. As soon as this trend is full-fledged and finally becomes truly commonplace, life will be soooo sweet.
*think young, chunky me in a candy store sweet
**or current, chunky me in a candy store sweet…take your pick.
THE FASHION INDUSTRY I understand that this point might confuse you. You are probably thinking, “what?! You learned about the fashion industry in a course that is literally called Survey of the Fashion Industry?!! The world truly is crazy. We have all lost our marbles.” But seriously, I learned about the fashion industry in this wonderfully, outstanding class, taught by even more outstanding teacher who made the class super fun, super engaging, and super relevant; not to mention super sassy. I now have a better grasp of what I want to do in this huge, and ever-changing industry. I now have the belief system that I can actually do what I want to do in this industry. I now have the confidence go out and make some kick ass ties like Ralph Lauren - even though I can’t actually sew…or draw…and I’m not to great at designing….I don’t actually want to design…and I can’t tie a tie...but i think you get my point: all I need is serious drive, a dream that I will not stop chasing, and to befriend Anna Wintour’s daughter so I can heart-warningly worm my way into the glimmering hallways of Vogue. And if that doesn’t work, I can always hold her entire sunglass collection hostage.
Ta-Ta for now, Chelsea Cheyenne.
