Ai really needed to lay off the rooftops.
Perching high had become a habit, one shared by a fair few within the city’s limits, but the small master found herself more relaxed when she could see as much as possible. Perhaps it had something to do with spending too much time in a single room with tatami flooring and a wheezing old computer, but now that she had some sense of freedom, she had developed odd habits.
On this evening, her attentions had been caught by a musician lounging on her room’s porch. She couldn’t tell much about the girl, save for the fact she likely wasn’t some dangerous servant, so Ai gave no heed to being around her. As the figure below her strummed away on the odd (to her) instrument, one Ai had seen in the modern world she often worked in, the small girl kicked her foot against the side of of her perch to whatever rhythm the musician below her set. It would have almost been charming, if not for the fact that she wasn’t very far up, the tapping was very audible, and Ai couldn’t maintain a consistent rhythm to save her life.

If the girl below her listened, she would be able to hear Ai absentmindedly attempting to stay in time with her, failing miserably at it, and starting over. If she bothered to look up, she’d find nothing more than a small, deadpanned girl staring off into nothing, kicking her shoes against brick to a pace that didn’t exist anywhere.

Here, there were no eyes.
Ai no longer had to keep her careful gaze upon that accursed web-- the King of Hell could not see her here, and as such, she was no longer obligated to keep herself composed. Though that did not mean rampaging, she had discovered... fun, new outlets for her compulsions to destroy.
Night had fallen, and not a lot of people seemed to like lingering after visibility got low. The small-statured female had found herself enjoying watching the city from the rooftops, keeping a quiet watch over any potential clients, but lately... the compulsory urges to smash things came at somewhat inappropriate moments. In that given time frame, she found herself staring blankly at a large air unit atop the same building, her small foot poised at its base. Without warning, she smashed into it, uprooting the entire thing and sending it sailing over the edge. Perhaps, she might have smiled, if she had not heard the crash as it hit the sidewalk below and the mad, panicked scuffling of someone trying to avoid it.
As she peered downwards, she watched a lanky teenage boy, not much older than she appeared, scramble backwards on his bottom away from the wreckage that could have very easily landed right on his head. Ai sighed, floating down from her perch, and offered the male a small, pallid hand.
Tumblr media
“... apologies,” she spoke, her voice low and soft.

This... was a predicament. Ai had no desire to participate in collecting fragments, merely using the chaotic state of the city to move about as she pleased with as little confrontation as possible. Still, that seemingly did not stop the hoards of infected civilians from trying to get their grubby hands on her, even if she did not possess any of the fragments they sought.
As the day drew to a close, she found herself in a secluded part of the city, absolutely surrounded by them. Though she could teleport short distances, it didn’t seem to help much, as more would inevitably surround her wherever she popped back up. Back pressed against a wall, the same familiar deadpan on her face, she lazily flung bolts of dark energy out, knocking her assailants down like bowling pins. It was easy to tell she was in no real danger, and that she was frankly growing rather bored of it all, but as she noncommittally knocked them down, a flash of blue rocketed down from below, a red polearm spinning wildly in the figures hands. She had an inkling that someone had been watching, but she had not expected interference from a stranger.
Tumblr media
“... I do not require...”
And before the words left her mouth, the entirely of the mob had been effortlessly smacked away by the intruder’s weapon. All save for one, who darted from around the corner, lunging at the man who had sailed down from the rooftops. With a nonchalant flick of her wrist, another bolt of energy flung, he fell as well.
“... assistance,” she finished in her small voice, having to tilt her head upwards to stare at her sudden companion.
She kept her stance careful-- it was obvious he was the servant of another, and she had no desire to really get into it with anyone.

Reconnaissance efforts, if any were put forth at all, were minimal on Ai’s part. Her servant was more than capable of conducting himself in  a self-sustaining manner when she was not at his side, and she was absolutely fine with roaming the city’s streets alone. However... often did it lead her to the strangest of situations.
It was still within her nature to sense and feel the desire for vengeance from another, no matter how muted or forgotten it may have become. It seemed even in this world, she could still offer contracts, even without her familiars, though she wasn’t entirely sure if they would still obey the same rules as where she came from. Still... the desire was strong in most, she found, and rolled off their bodies in waves. There was a particular fellow, however... abrasive, but seemingly docile at times, she had pegged for a possible client. Even now, she took her job somewhat seriously.
She had waited until the male found himself alone, likely wandering back to his home, when she stepped out in front of him. She watched him for a moment with her widened eyes... until he would see familiarity in them.
Tumblr media
Red eyes. Stark white. A toothy smile... an inevitable betrayal; all things that would pervade his memory, while the girl simply stared, waiting several long moments before speaking.
“... Heavy are your memories. Is it vengeance that you seek?”

familiar || Gintoki
This place was entirely too loud. Ai hadn’t the faintest idea why anyone would want to cause such a commotion until she’d neared the street-side crowd... and into a jumble of figures either regretting or celebrating the outcome of some medium-scale bet. She’d been used to gamblers before, often sought out for vengeance on “unfair operators” by sore, drunken losers.
She pressed her back against the dingy wall, eyeballing a particularly dejected looking man with snowy hair. His garments... they seemed almost familiar, like he had come from some place like her, when she was still human. Before she knew it, it seemed as if he’d caught her staring with her wide, curious eyes.
Tumblr media
However, when his gaze met hers... she didn’t bother looking away, continuing to scrutinize him from her position with little care for the opinions of others. There were no consequences here; she could damn well do as she pleased.

the color of blood || atrocitus
The sight was almost comical, if the aura of the two figures in such a cramped space wasn’t oppressive enough to threaten to flatten the entire building.
Two figures, one massively outsizing the other, stared back at each other in the confines of their private room with the same gaze: red, and dangerous. The larger was male in build, sticking to his crimson theme in appearance. He resembled something of a demon, a spectre from some child’s horror story. The smaller figure.. appeared to be the child in possession of the book. Short in stature, a body appearing no older than thirteen, with stringy black hair and a pale, deadpanned face.
Overturning her right hand, her gaze momentarily fell to the command seals that sat gracefully atop her pallid skin. She understood very little of her situation, very minimal amounts of what she was told upon awakening, but… the presence of her master was absent, and somehow, that made standing in front of the hulking being before her all the more favorable. Though calm, dread and danger rolled off the small female in nauseating waves, even if she resembled an animated doll more than a humanoid.
“... servant…?”
The word rolled off the tiny girls tongue in a slow and strange manner, as if she were tasting something strange for the first time. Her voice was small, and soft, for someone who exuded fear and hatred from every pore. The very way she composed and carried herself contradicted her aura, and as she stared up at her “servant” with hellish orbs, she did not smile, only nodded.
Tumblr media
“I am called… Ai,” she spoke again, her voice like wind chimes in a storm. Calmly, she stepped forward, a hand outstretched in the same manner a curious child would examine something. However, it was not difficult to tell whatever mind inhabited that small frame was not that of a child’s. She pressed her small, thin fingers against the hand of the figure before her, utterly unafraid, upturning her head to scrutinize him further.
“... you…?”
