@opensuse-official Tumbleweed is a far more stable rolling release distro! I run it solo on my stuff & have never had any issues!*
* except for when I accidentally ran rm -rf ~, but that's 100% user error :( always have backups ._.
They do a little bit of testing before pushing, and if anything happens the boot manager will let you boot with an older version of the kernel easily!
i might give single-boot linux another chance, i think i maybe shouldn't have used an arch-based distro on my main PC, i need something more stable. still love arch though

I'm not into the thing phones have going on where a model can get 2 years of updates and that's it.
Seems like projecting phone company's laziness and cost cutting onto ARM as a platform?
Lowkey not into the ARM hype. Laptops with good battery life sound nice but I'm not into the thing phones have going on where a model can get 2 years of updates and that's it. I'm more about being able to use 30-year-old stuff as long as I want.
#Like#the CPU architecture doesn't dictate the support cycle. The fact that the companies want to add an extra zero onto their earnings report d

I need @wayland-official and @xorg-official to kiss please
i have no idea if the "linux-official" tumblr blogs are a single group of friends having fun vs. random people, but if i were to take a url along those lines, i think i'd do "xorg-official" just because it increasingly seems i'll be stuck using xorg until 2030 thanks to my incredible stubbornness in the face of change
#Also I just wanted a cute little gif of someone making their hands kiss#But oh my god is there so much softcore in the gif library ._.

Programming is so funny. It says
"ERROR: int can not be converted to a string"
And you're just like "oh, okay. *adds ".ToString()" to the end*"
"Alright that's okay ^w^"

Distrobox! It lets you run a little tiny other distro and then run apps (including GUI ones) from there!
*shaking crying and pissing my pants* I'm thinking about dual booting two Linux distros.

Always good to see my parents getting along 🥰 🥰
should i switch to jetbrains ides
they are a) not electron, b) either open-source or based on an open-source codebase, and c) look really powerful
don't get me wrong i love neovim but the constant terminal-wrangling is starting to be a bit much + i want features like code completion and doc peeking that just work out of the box

Well, I would certainly suggest Helix
cough cough Homepage, example LSP configs, make sure you run hx --grammar fetch; hx --grammar build cough
But you know... if you want to use Jetbrains...

I hate to be the annoying person who recommends Linux to everyone but like... how could you not switch to Linux at this point.

From what I know of emacs, its a lifestyle & whole new environment.
It can do your mail. It can be Obsidian, it can play snake.
Emacs can be everything in your life. Helix is just trying to do one thing.
before i fully commit to using emacs, do you know any ways of using helix as (something like) an ide?
It depends what you want from your IDE.
Helix will happily integrate with LSPs providing you add them to your config/helix/languages.toml (list of example language configs here).
Helix will do language highlighting by default (once you run hx --grammar fetch; hx --grammar build) for a whole bunch of languages no lsp or anything needed!
Helix is more VS Code than Visual Studio.
It'll show you diagnostics, error messages, and hints, but it doesn't do the more technical debugging (break-points and all that).
All in all, give it a go! Maybe you like it, maybe you don't. I'm happy to send bits from my config as examples (or to steal) via DM or write little config bits if you need them :)

Having ADHD is so fun because sometimes youre looking for something that you use regularly and definitely put away in a smart and reasonable place and you have absolutely 0 hope of remembering where and finding it. And then other times ur like "hmm I need a some kind of small pointed object. I feel like i remember seeing a paperclip under the left couch cushion a month ago, i wonder if its still there" and it is
