Creating the pictures that would be in the girls rooms was much simpler than a lot of the other work. This is as my initiation for them was that they would be small things in the background, therefore didn't need to be super detailed.
Though even without the detail I felt the way they turned out looked good still sized up and so chose to use them in other ways also.

The comic cover was an aspect of creating a comic I had to some extent forgotten about until later in the project, I had thought of loads of ideas for the characters and comic story but the cover had entirely slipped my mind. Thankfully when it came to creating the cover I had thought of a concept I really enjoyed.
The idea of a messy bedroom floor littered with things that are almost vital to the girls and their story was something that just instantly clicked. It made perfect sense that at least one of my characters would have a messy and chaotic room that this scene could be totally plausible within. I used Procreate to design the cover, this being my go to app for digital art as photoshop doesn't work too well on the Ipad and that how I work best.  Each item on the cover was initially on separate layers, which were then merged as the item was finished off. The different layers allowed me to adjust items to where they made more sense or simply overlapped in a nicer way.  It also meant shading underneath the pieces, making the image appear less flat.
The title font was once again an issue for me as it has been in previous projects.  I often fall into the trap of using bubble writing as its noticeable, if a little ugly. It never stands out enough to be a vocal point but doesnt let the images behind be seen as it simply takes up too much space.
As the title name is a D it worked out very well to combine parts of Dolly Parton's signature into the title, to remind the audience even more who it is about.

What Is On A Comic Cover
Comic covers, like book covers are more than just a title and a photo. They have publishing companies, prices and all the things they would need to be sold, even sometimes including taglines.

Creating A Second Poster
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To create the second poster I try to utilize a lot of what I already had created, having things on separate layers was super important to how I was doing this.

Each image is one of the characters when they were young, showing what kind of world they live in, and the difference in how their parents act with them.
They each have their own section of the image, it being one at the top and one at the bottom. This layout I thought both depicted the difference and distance between the two, while also giving each their separate space to shine. The tagline 'How many miles can an obsession take you' is heavily inspired by the story of three siblings who traveled miles to visit DollyWood, though its also referring to the distance between the two unlikely friends.

The Beauty Of Penpals
Penpals could be considered the perfect form of friendship, or at least the more successful. The way a pen pal works means that you never have to share certian aspects of your life, which is both a negative and a positive depending on how this ability to hide things is used. Of course its essentially talking to a stranger on the internet, they could very easily be someone else.
Friendships ending and people falling out is a part of life, it can be very awkward for those who are around both the people when this happens, or it can be a very clean split. Its odd as being friends with someone for such a long time can sometimes mean that the pair are almost always expected to be together.
Pen pals are almost this secret personal relationship that none outside of the two has to know about.

Pitch Sheet
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pitch sheets for graphic novels and comics seem to have a lot of characters moving and in action, showing of the art-style as well as the main characters. There are also many pages like this that are made to show off the characters too, which allows for the character design to be shown off even more.

Comic Art Processes
The process of creating a comic often takes many different people who work on specific aspects of the comic.
There would most often be people tasked with different job for the creation of comic, someone to storyboard, sketch, ink, create and finish type. They also have an entirely different artsy for the cover too.
Tumblr media
Despite many big comics being created with large teams of people, there are also alternatives that need less of a team and can even be made by one person sometimes. Webcomics are an example of this, while some still follow the comic route of a team working together it is also possible for individuals to create and publish their own work.

Making The Title
Font is always something I struggle with, as seen in previous projects. I have a tendency to end up giving up and using really bad bubble writing for hand drawn fonts. The fonts I use are often really simple and add nothing but still being too complicated to allow for the backgrounds and the drawings to come trough as nicely as they should.

For this projects I want the title font at least make sense even if I cant a great font it can at least make have some sort of deeper connection to the rest of my work.
I am trying to work something out that takes a lot of inspiration and resembles Dolly Partons signature. The signature shows up on a lot of her albums so they have also been something I've looked into, the main aspect of it that I'm looking to use is the way the d is written.

How Fans Forgive Dolly
Dolly Parton falls into the type of celebrity who became famous young, then stayed famous meaning she has lived a large fraction of her life in the spotlight. This level of stardom can often lead to insecurity and a want to change ones appearance and personality either all together or while off stage to disconnected with their fame.
Tumblr media
Parton is very open about her surgeries and doesn't shy away from questions she is asked about them, and because of this her fans can easily overlook all of the alterations she has made to herself. Her jarring appearance has always been something of interest but her fans have always been unbothered by it, it may even be as aspect of her that makes her standout in the country music industry.

American and Korean Music CrossOvers
Despite the language barriers South Korea has with countries like America and the UK there is still a lot of music that has been able to crossover these barriers. Whether that's through collaborations or just the impact certian performers are able to have their international achievements are still quite impressive.
While in South Korea I found that a lot of stores that sold clothes on markets had beetle's merch. This prompted my curiosity to if they group had been as popular there as it had been in different countries.

Korean School Culture
The education culture in South Korea is very intense, to the point where students in their final year will spend more time at school and libraries than at home. Korea has one of the highest literacy rates in the world and is well recognized for its brilliantly intense education. The way of teaching is far more authoritarian and teachers hold a higher position of respect in South Korea than they do here in the UK
youtube
Despite their high and intense education, South Korea still has one of the biggest gender gaps in the workplace, with women earning little over half of what men in the same careers earn.

Photos
I wanted to make the characters feel more real to me and so I created images that would be around their rooms and maybe hold some special memories for them.
The dimensions of them are all 6x4 , a fairly standard frame size.

Character 2's Bedroom
This room was the first room and almost from the very start I had a very clear vision of what I wanted, making this quite an easy one to accomplish. I knew I wanted platforms and a whole bunch of everything, to make the room so overwhelming that the idea of who could live in the rooms would indicate exactly who I need it too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This character and their room needed to radiate chaotic, energetic preteen. She is someone who is intelligent in many ways, but potentially stupid in more a character show interests vary and may have obsessions that go above and beyond.
