The 2nd is better because:

-The serie is all in protrait > show consistence

- I like the position of the frame > in order  ( short to tall (not the height of the model) )

30 x 40 (around A3 size ) is my idea print 

Pros: 

- Right size  to show enough of details  

- Easy to look at especially when pinning in the hallway

- Good in price for printing $10 

- Bigger than A5 and A4

Cons:

- When hanging somewhere spaceous, could be a bit small

- The size is common, people may just walk pass

Semi-Gloss paper fits my photos

- Match my idea, brightness of the screen could be the glow of the paper 

- Give texture to my idea

- Able to lighten up my photos more ( matt can’t )

1st row: 

Print on glass/ transparent material | Small size | Square

Pros: 

- Create a new vision idea to display

- To minimax the detail that needs to be include

- The image/pattern will appear in different form when you look from different angles.

- The display size is suitable in any location, especially in limited event area.

Cons:

- Technical problem

- Only works well on certain objects/ shapes? e.g. plants, architecture 

- The reflection may affect the quality / need to place sth behind to show the photos.

2nd row:

Print on painting paper? | Small size | Square

Pros:

- The texture of paper brings out a different effect/style to the images 

- Cropping into a smaller size can emphasis the key of the photos

- Easy on neck, no need to move up and down to look at the art work.

- The display size is suitable in any location, especially in a narrow hallway

Cons:

- Not the best size/ format if my photos are portraits.

- Easy to walk pass when you were in a large open space cuz the prints aren’t large. Except you have a lot of dispaly in the same size nearby.

3rd row:

Framed with a glass cover | Medium to large size | Square

Pros:

- The BW image is good in showing texture and sillohutte

- The glass cover create a glossy look and add highlights to the works

- The display size is suitable in open space

Cons:

- Need to be aware of the reflection. Will the reflection increase the texture of your photos or will it ruin your phots?

- Have to look at the photos in a far distance ( not to clse).

 4th row:

Matt paper | Medium to large size | Rectangle

Pros:

- Easy on eye

-Elegant style with the matt paper

- Stanard size of displayingimages

Cons: 

- Makes the photos dull

- Have to look at the photos in a far distance ( not to clse).

Concludsion:

When choosing paper type, it really depends on how you want your audiences feel when they are looking at your photos. Also have to think about the space of your venue when choosing the print size.

Why I prefer the 1st not the 2nd

Pros of 1st image: 

- Creative, the stack of phones looks like a hamburger = nutrient of nowaday

- The light is better, brighter and softer

- The frame is straight 

- Stronger expression of how we get affected of 3C products

Cons of 2nd image:

- The frame is not straight, all the setting are shifted to right

- The hirachy is not as good as I expected. I expected the deep of field would be stronger

The idea of this series is to express our digital devices is taking all over the place, we no longer need food as nutrient and energy we only need social media, TV shows and other 3C platform. Especially under the tik tok trend, numourous people are addicted to this app and spend hours to catch up with new feeds and upload their short videos. Although Tik tok only launched in 2018, it already has 800 million active users worldwide (Datareportal, 2020), the great amount of user leads beat otherwell-known website. 3C device is affecting our daily life, it becomes part of us, the connection between us unbreakable.

Among all photos, I like these two the most. The 2nd image is more interactive than the 1st. It has the first-person concept where the viewer is the model of this photos , he/she is looking at the phone in the middle of meal.  But the angle of the phone and cutlery is not straight to the centre, they are leaning to right side. It’s hard hold my camera straight and face centre because my camera is heavy. Therefore, I chose the 1st to develop

This session wasn’t as good as the last one because of limited time with the model. Although I had the concept of lights setting, my ideation and experience, progressing a photoshoot in the studio around 1 hour is a difficult task. As I wanted to try something different with the angle and props, the process is more difficult than previous. Also, compare to the previous photoshoot, the relationship between the models and I is closer last time hence we sync-up well and can understand each other without explaining too much. Moreover,  I had my friend as asistance in the 1st time so I get more comfortable and less stress. Despit the set-up time, I only have around 45 minutes to try out new idea therefore this is the most challenging photoshoot I’ve done so far. Nevertheless, there are some photos I like. I like the photos with either low angle and high angle. For the low angle, I am happy with those in the 2nd, 3rd row of the 2nd section. The low angle shoots emphased the direction of model’s eyes, it give me the sense that she’s paying attention to the content in her phone, not just browesing.  When comparing the low angle shoots to the high angle shoots, I personally like the idea of shooting from high angle wherase the focus point swtiched from model’s face to the screen. It express the idea of screen addiction better. Moreover, it has the atmosphere that I (viewer) is interested in what is she watching so I’m “peeking” at her screen from her side.

The most important I’ve learnt from this shooting is to have great  communicate with model, explain how you want their expression look, where they face to, what posture should they do, where should they place their hand etc. As a photograph, it is my job to guide models in order that turn my vision into reality/ guide them for a better outcome. I should try to express my thought more often and social with others to improve my communication skill and remember new vocabularies to refine my English level

Post-production under different lighting

Left image as F; Right image as M

Lighting: I perfer the light setting on the left hand side (F). It ables to represent/indicate the topic better and accuratly as red symbolises addiction and passion; blue symbolises digital devices and screen (blue light).

The other resason of F is better because the red light hit right onto the subject while compared to M, the purple light (supposed to be red light) only hit on the wall but not the subject. Moreover, the colours of F are more vivid and stronger than M which increases the tesion and ambiance of the image.

Experimenting post-production with protrait

I did a few idea to express how 3C device is controlling us and blend into part of our body. The last image is my favourite among other, I like idea of the face is sucking into the phone and can’t be seperate. I also add a blur layer to  emphasis the brigntness from the screen.

What I think it could work :

The left side of model face will be too bringt and a medium-soft shadow will apper on her rightcheek to neck because there’s only one big soft box from the top.

Should lower the power of light to bring out more details of her face. 

Should add a small/ half body lenght white reflector to bounce the light to model’s right side when aiming a soft shadow outcome.

- Lowered down the colour saturation -> grey tone -> symbolylising the use of digital devices is killing the planet.

- Phone in the ground and bush = our land is covered by digital devices, people rather spend time on their phone than enjoying outdoor

Pros:

 - it shows our planet is covered by digital devices gradually.

Cons:

- the sizie of the phone could make it bigger

- the surrealism style is ambiguity

- feedback from my friend: seemes like a normal landscape with one phone lying on the ground. Only notice there are other phones hiding oin the bush when you told me.
