Story Title A Mother's Cry from Under the Rubble

I am a Palestinian mother from Gaza, writing these words amidst the devastation, surrounded by fear on all sides. My home is no longer a home, my city is no longer what it once was, and my children and I are trapped here, trying to survive amidst the sounds of bombing and destruction.

Every day, I hold my little girls close to my chest and try to hide my fear from them. I quell their hunger with whatever I can, and I try to reassure them that this nightmare will soon end. But the truth is, I don't know how we will survive or when this war that has stolen everything from us

and destroyed our home and our lives will end!

I dreamed of a safe life for my children, a good education, play, and laughter. But today, my only dream is to take them to a safe place, far from the death that stalks us at every moment. The doors of the world are closed in our faces, and the passages that were supposed to be safe are not. We are trapped between hunger, fear, and destruction.

I appeal to every person reading these words, everyone who still has a shred of humanity in their heart, to help me get out of here. I need a hand reaching out toward us, a voice calling for our rescue, a chance for a new life where fear isn't my children's constant companion.

If you can hear me, if you can help, don't leave me alone. Don't let my daughters pay the price for a war they didn't choose. Help me cross to safety, to a better future, where survival isn't a daily feat, but a natural right.

I cry out today, not just in my own name, but in the name of every mother in Gaza who embraces her children and fears losing them in an instant. Don't forget us, don't leave us under the rubble. We deserve life!

Yu'i - My Mouth

Alright! I think its time i talk about pronouns!!! The last page i focused on was Yu'Yo meaning "Our mouth" but that's not quite accurate.

The 'Yo pronoun specifically refers to me and you, the listener or reader of my words. I kind of like this distinction. The listener is Actively acknowledged in conversation.

the Yu'i pronoun is funny, the sort of similarity that english and mixtec shares, with I and 'I refering to "I" or "Myself"

this shared aspect of language is nice, it's something I like picking out.

Actually I need your help to donate for my mother's treatment, as my mother suffers from blood clots in her foot and cartilage in her back and neck and needs treatment and needs a bed and a medical mattress. This happened in July 2024. We noticed her tiredness and she went to the hospital. This was due to displacement and walking a lot due to lack of transportation. The doctor wanted her to rest. Havi - Rain

Havi is such a cool word in my Mixtec, in many other variants of mixtec it can be Savi, Sari, or Davi. In these languages the name for their groups can mean "People of the rain"

People of the rain, that is really cool. In nahuatl, the name "Mixteca" means "people of the clouds" Slightly different yeah? I think it refers to how the mixtecs live in the mountains and in the valleys of Oaxaca, very cloudy and rainy places.

A source of life, the creator of floods, lightning, a symbol of war, abundance, creation. Rain is pretty nice.

Kanni Havi - Lightning/"Rain Strike

Thunder in Oaxaca is so different from the thunder where I live, It crackles and echos, it echoes through the valleys like drums.

In rapid succession the lightning sounds like a sizzling barrage of punches through the air.

Almost as if the Storm god Tlaloc himself is waging war against the very earth itself.

It really is a marvel. You can feel it reverberate through your body. It's something I'd like to experience again someday.

Yu'yo - Our Mouth

Mouth... eating... also used for making sounds, I think one of the coolest features of mixtec and other related languages is the glottal stop! whenever you see an apostrophe in a mixtec word you are supposed to abruptly stop the pronoucnciation of the word, through closing the glottis muscle in your throat, then produce the sound after the apostrophe right after Mouths are cool, a way to express ourselves, to eat consume, exhale and bite.
