The Bell Jar- Sylvia Plath (4.5/5)

Despite this being her only novel, i loved the way Plath depicted the emotions of the main character Esther Greenwood and her struggle with indentity in a male dominated world. The novel is set in the 1950s and shows Esther slowly become depressed and suicidal whilst struggling to plan a future for herself.

The novel reflects largly on Plath who committed suicide soon after the book was published. I would recommend this book however it may be triggering as it contains suicide attempts. A film similar he The Bell Jars story is Girl, Interupted.
