The rhythmic scratching that accompanies A’s misery as they are absolutely dripping with a colds it’s oozing from their sinuses onto their flaming and irritated upper lip. The bridge of that pathetic nose only thrums and aches from the internal pressure and inflammation of those hot and bothered sinus scrolls and folds, bathing in visceral snot within their head. The husky abrasive coughs and wheezes drags forth more wetness from their chest, trigged by whispers of the outside air, now cooler than the body thanks to the fever their burning, with every half-sniffle and sneeze. Speaking of sneezing. The sneezing is never-ending. Every little thing seems to set them off. Even the small exhale in hope of just a moment of rest is enough to start everything up again, sending A scrambling to snatch more tissues in service to their needy appendage. Sometimes it’s all they can manage to aim their unruly nose down into the blanket that covers their lap or into the collar of that soft shirt that they’ve been rotting in for three days. Having finished the 3-pack purchases when they first felt this cold coming on, A throws the now empty tissue box toward the pile at their feet, now at a loss of what to do. The hall closet with spares is just too far away and B won’t be home for hours. Sniffling back another liquid wave of contagion, A feels their sinuses begin to buzz again.

Noses full of cold.

Noses that gurgle and drip when not attended to. Noses that snort and whistle when blown or meant to forward a tiny inhale of air. Noses that burble and expel gobs of snot. Noses packed to the brim with contagion and slime. Noses rubbed raw by make-shift tissues or just too much attending from this unyielding virus. Noses that are somehow both desert dry but still packed tight with congestion.

Noses full of cold.
